As a countertop fabricator , I have to say there were some short cuts that were done for video purposes, but all and all it was a good demo of what a quality CNC can do. In our shop we would have taken both countertops up to polish or near polish, then set them and seamed in the field. And trust me a black solid surface takes a lot of polishing time to hide the sanding lines. What I want to see is the CNC with a sanding and polishing tool and it do the manual labor of that process. As per the need for a splint backer, you can do this, but we typically use a full solid melamine sub top and don't have issues with the seam. Now a seam in the corner isn't the best thing. If the width of the counter is say less then 30 inch wide you could cut an L shape and get out past the inside 90 corner. This makes the finishing of the edge in the field easier and moves the seam line to a better spot that is thought to have less stress. I guess it might be under less stress, but we have made and installed 100s of tops seamed basically the same way with nearly no issues. Most issues are because these are counter tops, not chairs or scaffolds.

Did Mozaik calculate the miter folds? I’m doing a similar shape on a job right now, so this is timely.

Did they change the standards of solid surface fabrication? Mistake 1 seam in the corner mistake 2 the seam not backed up with a piece under the seam

I haven't seen a new fab book for years but I know a lot of shops are doing it this way. If that seam is in that location in a home in new construction it won't make it past the first season change

This was something we did in our own shop for a desk we made… the main focus for us was to showcase the machine and prove that our machines can do the cutting. We can appreciate your expertise and experience.

@@acerjuglans383 Huh I'm confused. Where in the title does it give the name of the material?

    • @brenteldstrom6434

Never mind. Its actually called "Solid Surface"

That sounds more like a description than a material name so I see why he was confused
