Ballet is so so beautiful. I’m only 16 years old and I will have my very first ballet class next week! Wish me luck !! 💗🌸 I really hope I love ballet as much as I do right now. I know it will take a lot of work and effort but it will all be worth it!!
I just realized that the color of their dress represents the time of day, Black/Navy/Dark is Night, Pink is Dawn, Yellow is Day and lilac is Dusk/Twilight...
As a child in the 1950’ies in Denmark my parents took my sister and me (aged about 10-15 years old) into “The Royal Theatre” in Copenhagen to watch the Coppelia ballet - and I would certainly love the theatre to put it on the repertoire again. Especially the mazurka …. loved it.
Note the clockface. Note the 24 dancers in the corps, the 24 hours of the day. Note the colors: pink and violet, black and yellow, six in each “suite”, appropriate for a Northern summer day with long hours of sunlight and an attenuated night. Yes, the choreography is that of an early revival by Marius Petipa, of the Mariinsky theater in St. Petersburg; its steps haven’t changed in more than a century. And the music of Léo Delibes is far from his most memorable. But see how the choreographer’s art lives on, through stage and costume design, to meet the vision of a future time. Is this not the Grand Style? Is this not ballet at its consummate sublime?
I'm always impressed with how amazing these old costume and scenery designs appear when they're recreated (notably the Mariinsky's Sleeping Beauty revival)
Well that was no small feat. I’m not one for ballet but I did enjoy that. It’s clear that these women have worked very hard to achieve such a performance. All moving in unison. It’s simply amazing.
It's things like this that make me wish I had stuck with ballet when I was younger. I remember I really loved ballet, I knew by age ten what company I wanted to join and what theatre I dreamed to perform at, but when I turned eleven (just as I hit puberty) I remember my teacher pulling me aside and, pretty much, pointing out every reason I can't be a ballerina (in her own words, "let alone a prima ballerina"). Apparently, my face was too square, my neck was too short, my shoulders were too broad, my bust was too big, my hips were too wide, and my feet weren't small enough. She essentially told me to drop out because, "You won't just grow into a proper ballerina body. You just won't catch up with the other girls." It's really a shame. Ballet was (and still is) the only thing I've ever been passionate about, so it sucks that I was discouraged enough to drop out, and now several years later I'm past the age to be considered by a company. It's the same for a lot of other aspiring black ballerinas, and it just really... Sucks. (Sorry for venting. Had to write it somewhere lol!)
+Norma Mimosa I appreciate the encouragement to continue ballet classes, but my point was that I wish I had stuck with ballet and had not been discouraged by my teacher. I would have figured out on my own that I wasn't made to be a ballerina, and I would have accepted that, but my teacher pointed out quite literally every reason I wasn't good enough to be doing what I loved. It's not like I was in particularly serious classes (we met once a week and spent the entire hour pretty much only don't stretches), but she still felt the need to encourage me to drop out rather than try to teach me more even though she knew I likely wouldn't ever be in ballet professionally. It wasn't too big of a loss, but it didn't (and still doesn't) feel right to pull a passionate eleven-year-old aside and tell her to drop out of the thing she loves, y'know? It was unnecessary.
That doesn't mean you couldn't have made it as a ballet teacher. You don't need the ballet body,as long as you have the passion, musicality and good technique. Couldn't your teacher have found ANY of those qualities in your dancing?
You were still developing; furthering your ballet training might well have changed your body shape! And to dance for the passion of dance is enough reason to just dance! I learnt that a bit too late. Its good to vent, Engride. Have you condsidered teaching and sharing your passion with aspiring children? Its very rewarding. xxx
+Engride Spittle What a stupid narrow minded teacher you had. Perhaps she was right about your physique being a probable obstacle for you to be a professional dancer but dancing is not only for professionals just like music is not for a select few. There are millions of people who dance in all kinds of genres as a form of recreation and even perform on amateur level. The ignorance of your teacher robbed you of something that could've been a source of joy in life for you on whatever level of dancing.

Motu Patlu The sound of the feet is unavoidable. I saw the Cullberg Ballet several years ago and the soft sounds of the feet did not bother me at all. Must not focus on trivialities.
This is perhaps the loveliest piece of the entire ballet, which is a masterpiece. I agree with Mr. Olvera Garcia--this is music of the soul! Well described. Dr. Josph Adan, Ph.D.
So beautiful! I don't understand not only how this video can generate so many dislikes and how can people prefer to watch football to a ballet performance 🙀
I remember I did Waltz of the Hours when I was super little, when I clicked on this it all my memory of it raced back to me in an instant-I wore green tutus and basically there was one of our older girls doing a variation while we were in the background, doing another thing, NOSTALGIA AHHHHH!
¡Ay! Recuerdo cuando tenía 6 años en la escuela me hicieron una prueba sobre estas músicas. Como cascanueces y el lago de los cisnes, y obviamente esta pieza también. Ahora ya no enseñan los clásicos :'c

I attended the last performance of Coppelia at the Bolshoi last summer. Yes: This _is_ grand style.
How absolutely exquisite. Such chorus perfection. This must be one of the loveliest of Coppelia productions.
Ballet is like looking at beautiful porcelain.
The effect here is absolutely stunning! I love the precision and grace of the ballerinas during the clock sequence! So beautiful!
