The history of remote sensing began with the invention of photograph. The term photograph is derived from two words 'phos' means light & 'graphy' means writing.
Historical Development Of Remote Sensing -------
1In year 1038 AD AL Hazen an Arabian mathematician explain the principle of camera obscura to observe solar eclipse.
2After in year 1666 Newton experimenting with a prism & found that when a white light passes through a prism then it splits into seven different colors.
3In 1800 Sir William Herschel measures the temperature of light splits with a prism into spectrum of visible colors. He had discovered thermal infrared electromagnetic radiation
4In 1858 GFT Nadar takes the 1st aerial photograph from a captive balloon from an altitude of 1200 feet in Paris.
5In 1889 Arthur Batut takes the 1st aerial photo by using kite in France.
6In 1903 BP Crop uses pigeon to transmit message &
take aerial photograph.

1In 1957 Sputnik I launched by Russia ( World 1st artificial satellite launched 4 October 1957 ).
2 In 1958 Explorer I launched by USA
3 In 1970 Dong Fang Hong I launched by China

2In 1979 Bhaskar I launched by India
3In 1980 Rohini I launched by India
4In 1982 Insat 1A launched by India
5In 1998 IRS ( Indian Remote Sensing ) launched by India
6In 2001 GSAT I launched by India
7In 2004 EDUSAT launched by India
8In 2005 Cartosat launched by India
9In 2008 Chandrayaan launched by India
10In 2013 Mangalyan launched by India ( 5th November 2013 - 24 September 2014 ).
