Oh man I missed this cover! Discovered it upon release as a young man and now I’m nearing 30. It feels like I was listening to this while doing my homework just the other day. It’s such a strange feeling, but I guess it’s a most appropriate mixture of emotions to have tied to the classic Autumn Leaves. Thank you Ryan. Cheers and much love to all! 🍂
This is the 1st youtube video that got me into playing jazz guitar 12 years ago. No clue about the concept of chord melody of the beautiful arrangement, the 2-5-1 structure of the song nor about the chord-tone based improvisation in the solo section, just knew I wanted to dive into the song. Am still practicing now and still playing and trying to level up on Autumn Leaves now.
I just want to say how much I have loved your rendition of this song over the years. How many times this has saved me from myself. This video does the original such a beautiful justice, so much so that I prefer yours so, so much more. This is the video I watch when everything is too much, when I need motivation, when I need to centre myself, anything and everything. This, your rendition, your video means absolutely everything to me. I want to thank you so, so much. Your talent is just unfathomable. It is on my bucket list to one day learn this myself and to see it played properly (this way) in person, it brings me such peace! Thank you, belatedly but nevertheless for now and forever, for sharing this, thank you so much.
Sigh. I learn a few jazz chords and start getting comfortable with them and I'm feeling pretty good about it and then I watch something like this and realize that I will never come close to being able to truly play jazz. Unless I quit my life and dedicate the remaining time I have on earth to do it!
Operation Agatha While I completely agree with this in theory it's just not realistic for me right now. I have two kids (4 years old, 5 months old) and my wife and I both work. I have very little time for anything outside of day-to-day life. Maybe in 20 years! :)
+Dean DeGennaro Im usually playing at night. To practise you neednt to have volume up. In worst case you should use head phone. But still does exist possibility to play if you wish, just do it ;). Anw superb playing Ryan!.
Ryan - I have been kicking myself since I got rid of my 175T years ago - and after watching this - now even more so; Absolutely amazing chops - and other than that - there are no other words.
Wonderful playing. No growling and overdrive. A delightful version where you can hear the original melody with a tasty over lay you put down over the top. Thank you for sharing this.
Do I see prodigy sharing his love for the instrument for such beautiful song/tune classic. Seeing is believing. May you play for CZcams & us the learner(s) & admirers whenever you find the time. I was impressed by your solo. It shows the absolute commend you have of the Gibson ES-175 guitar. The crispiness of new strings gives deep bass sound when picked. Superb playing. I see a bright future for you. SL
so well done Ryan ; all the chords have the exact sequence. Your sensibility is in the right size and time. Your version is may be the best that I've heard. Congrat and thanks again ledhec
REAL MUSIC! That was awesome. I wish more younger players would understand how fun jazz can be and how much of a foundation it is for anything else they want to do. Great stuff man. Keep it up.
Excellent touch Ryan. I am amazed at the array of ways that this song can be played. This rendition is very calming. I always lean towards the more lush stuff. This has it . Great job.
I'm not really into jazz - I'm a blues guy - don't even know why i clicked on this.... but WOW. I hope this is your day job, you are pretty awesome at this!
I'm a beginner born to guitar two months ago. I got a little Ibanez AFS 75 T Trd. I love the sound of "her" (it's a "she"! ;°P) neck pick up. And my teacher, looking at my progression, told me yesterday that we will begin to work on this difficult song at the next session, next week. I know it needs years of work to get your level but you're my reference Mister Ryan! ;)
you're solo is mind blowing all you're ideas are fresh and original and you don't fall into the common 2-5-1 licks that a lot of jazz guitar players play
WOW this gives me chills, im self taught and i love jazz, swing,blues...but its so frustrating, its so complex to play. And you play it so easily... truly awesome
Thank you so much, you play smooth and beautiful! There are times when I listen to this song and others standards and I regret having stopped playing guitar and Harmonica...
Found this cover 7 years ago. Still listening now

It’s been 10 years and I have kept on coming back on this.

Man, that was icy cool and smokin' hot all at the same time. I'd just about sell my soul to be able to play that way. Great talent Ryan!
I can't say how many times I've come back to this video over the years... this video marks the day that I truly fell in love with Jazz guitar.

Kinda sorta ... all it is is playing chords that you've learned in your guitar playing journey and putting it in song form

I love this song. I've heard it a million times, but everyone plays it their own way!
Wonderful playing. No growling and overdrive. A delightful version where you can hear the original melody with a tasty over lay you put down over the top. Thank you for sharing this.
Great dynamics, wonderfully fluid. I wish more jazz guys would play like this.

Always come back to you. It’s been five years since I accidentally discovered you one day.
Geez, how I love this. I could listen to bop standards like this 24/7
expat2010 this isn't a bop standard.
ozzy p This could be considered a hard bop standard.
This is not a bop standard of any kind. He has bop improv in his rendition of the song and does a great job, but a bop standard, this is not.
That was beautiful Man... :) And that look on your face just shows how much you Love what you do. Keep up the good work buddy. Cheers :D
