  • Alongside the X-Wing, The TIE Fighter is perhaps the most iconic fighter craft in Star Wars. The standard TIE, otherwise known as the TIE line star fighter, was manufactured on a mass scale, with some estimates putting the total number at 4.6 million. Being an acronym for Twin Ion Engine, the TIE fighter was equipped with a surprisingly decent engine with no moving parts, meaning it was quick, manoueverable and low maintenance, especially when compared to its very cheap cost. Its armourments weren’t bad either. Equipped with a pair of LS1- Laser canons, these weapons were relatively powerful, using the more potent green form of blaster gas which was common within the Empires armourments. But despite these advantages, the standard TIE lacked a hyperdrive, any kind of life support system and was frequently bested by the Rebels X-Wings. In response, the Empire developed numerous variants of the TIE fighter, each performing specialised roles in an effort to diminish the rebels advantage. In today’s video, we will discuss every single TIE fighter made by the Empire, as well as some of the upgraded designs made by its allies such as the Chiss and the Imperial Remenant.
Before delving into the aerial prowess of the various TIE fighter variants, it's worth exploring some of the more unique adaptations.
One such variant, the TIE mauler, served as a light Imperial ground assault vehicle. like its high-flying counterparts, the mauler was designed for speed over armor, resulting in a lightly armored frame. It was outfitted with three laser cannons, providing a respectable offensive capability for its size. Additionally, the mauler featured an enhanced self-destruct mechanism, a last-resort feature ensuring that it wouldn't fall into enemy hands intact.
Another unconventional adaptation was the TIE crawler, also known as the Century Tank. This ground vehicle was propelled by tank treads, allowing it to reach speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour, powered by twin Santhe SSct power generators. The pilot operated the crawler using foot controls for steering and speed adjustments, while hand controls were integrated into the fire control systems, a setup that prioritizes combat readiness and vehicle control.
The TIE crawler was armed with a pair of medium blaster cannons mounted in the "chin" positions, akin to those on standard TIE fighter cockpits, maintaining a visual and functional connection to the TIE lineage. Additionally, it featured a retractable light turbolaser beneath the cockpit ball, significantly enhancing its firepower and enabling the crawler to engage with more heavily fortified targets.
TIE Subfighter and TIE Stealth and TIE BOAT
Another bizzare innovation was the TIE Subfighter, a submersible attack craft tailored for aquatic environments. Armed with a concussion missile launcher and a single blaster cannon, the Subfighter represented the Empire's venture into underwater combat. Similarly, the TIE fighter boat was also designed for aquatic environments, and was able to operate both underwater and on the surface of the water.
