When the Leafs scored in the 3rd, I thought 'this is over, we got this'. When the Bruins scored a minute later, I thought 'we're done'. Because the Leafs can't score goals when it matters in the playoffs. When it really matters. When the pressure is the highest, when everything is on the line -- the Leafs can't score goals. The only surprise in OT was how quickly the Bruins scored.

Fair point, but counterfactual. Samsonov played well enough to give them a chance, if the Leaf forwards could score more than one goal. They couldn't score that goal. Same as last year. And the one before that. And so on. No clutch players.

Alright, fair enough. I just wanted to highlight the failure of the Leaf offence to produce points in the playoffs. They have to score. Just disappointed, is all.
Only the Leafs can hold the game to 0-0 for 50 minutes get one and immediately let one in. I have never seen a team lose a lead more times within a minute of getting one more than this team. It has happened like 20 times this season.

This is typical Samsonov; every time Leafs score a goal, he would give up a goal right away. Tonight was perfect example; although you can’t blame Samsonov for loss, he just played well enough to lose, he doesn’t make the save when the team needs it

Samsonov doesn’t poke at the puck, doesn’t push off properly for a pad save. A U13 goalie makes that save
Pretty soft first goal right after getting the lead, you need a save there but also can’t blame goalie in a 1-1 OT game. Can never fucken score in playoffs it’s always the other goalie standing on his head and Sammy, Freddy letting in softies

The game winner Boston scored was beautiful. That whole play, beginning to end, looked like it was drilled in practice specifically to beat the Leafs in OT.

Allowing Pasta to have a chance like that so early in ot is just a highlight of how not built for the playoffs they clearly are.

He had time but it was a fringe decision. Probably didn't expect pastrnak to drag it far side either. Leafs D was nowhere
Didn't want to give up the 5 hole. Since Pastrnak received that pass on his backhand going that fast that was by far the biggest threat. The backhand-forehand-backhand that he did was a very low percentage play, especially when moving the puck quickly through the rough ice in the crease. 9 times out of 10 that puck jumps over his blade/he does it too slow/he jams the puck into the pads/the defenseman disrupts him, and every Bruin fan screams "why didn't he just shoot it!?".
Well. Leafs gave no effort in game 1 and 4. If they played the whole series like they did the last 3 games... maybe different story.
Nylander and Marner floated and didnt even back check and let pasta skate right on by.
Can't even blame samsanov... pasta just skates right by 2 leafs like they were sleeping.
I'm 60. Probably the person who's watched the most Leaf games that doesn't remember the last time they won the cup. I'm numb. I don't get myself up anymore just because of the same result year after year. I'll believe it when I see it. I'll wait till then and never get excited again.

None of us can believe it. My wife and I went down to Toronto to be around the energy and it was electric and pure blue downtown. Shared sorrow doesn’t seem to reduce the weight of it but you guys make it bearable. Go Leafs Go!!
I get that Samsonov isn't a great starting goalie for a team that hopes to contend, but I really don't like the disrespect he gets from leafs fans. He's the guy we have. He's the only goalie I've ever seen win a series for the leafs. He battled back to even get the starting position this year. It's probably for the best he moves on but I genuinely loved him as a leaf.

Leafs talk was amazing - will miss it. In the end, I just hope that the fact that they came so close doesn’t hide the fact that changes are needed. With so many hard cap dollars in four forwards… the fact is this team cannot score in the playoffs. How many more examples are needed? Changes are needed at the top. This philosophy of roster construction cannot continue. Whenever they can, they have to get rid of Tavares and Marner… even if they walk for nothing, the cap space gained is a win. Keith Pelley - you are the only hope. Please do the right thing.

No one will take on those contracts because of the salary cap unless u pay half there salaries
Shanny needs to take accountability. Shouldn't be allowed to move onto the 5th coach without some accountability. 10 years "running it back" and never addressing D and goaltending.

You stop the floater after you got the lead and there’s no OT and no second goal that puck can’t go in, but you also can’t score 1 goal every game 7

There’s no way they should resign Marner. He is an absolute playoff failure every year. He’s too small with no toughness (physical or mental) to offset his lack of size. Get rid of the two Toronto kids JT and Mitch… build around Matthews and Nylander… get big D on the blue line. Reilly is also a joke - this is the only team in the NHL where Reilly can be considered a #1 D.
Of course clown show Leafs fans give Matthews a complete pass. The bottom line is Matthews is not a playoff player. He has zero heart and doesn't hate losing and it shows.

It’s all four of the core four - they are useless when the going gets tough in the playoffs. Matthews had 69 goals sure… but that’s when he gets to play the likes of the Habs, Sabres, Sens, Red Wings and all those bottom feeding teams. Turn up the playoff intensity and the core four consistently have no answer. And it’s not just vs Bruins apparently. It’s Columbus, Habs, Tampa, Florida… sometimes I wonder, if they somehow let the Sharks or Ducks into the playoffs despite their regular season records, and Sharks/Ducks played the Leafs in a seven game series, the Leafs would lose to them as well. It’s like no matter who the other team is, that team brings a playoff intensity that the Leafs’ core 4 cannot match.

First off appreciate the show all year long boys u guys killled it. I always go back to the reason why Ryan O’Reilly didn’t want to stay here and I strongly believe it was because he got a taste of this leadership and knew that they definitely do not have what it takes to win a Stanley cup. Why else would he leave he was so excited for the opportunity to win a cup for his dad who is a lifelong leafs fan and he knows how much a cup would mean for the city. This core is made up of a bunch of immature kids who only care about how big their contract is and have zero heart or character in big moments. They need to realize that if they actually won something in Toronto they would be immortalized and make even more money than not winning and taking up 50% of the cap. I am so done with this team and I’m expecting huge changes like definitely shopping soft Mitch Marner who displays no accountability and is a certified ghost In the playoffs every single season. Reilly also should be held accountable bc he was horrible this playoffs but I doubt the leafs can move him. Also Matthews better have a goddamn broken bone or something because he was sure playing like it tn and for every game other than the first 2 of the series. It is truly unbelievable how unlucky the leafs got with this greedy soft privileged draft class of players who have zero heart or passion to win anything for a fan base who is severely desperate for a championship. Those 4 better take responsibility for this loss as they were outclassed, outworked and out skilled by a team that had nowhere near the supposed talent of the core 4. 45 million dollars for 12 points in 7 games is just completely unacceptable and absolutely disgusting from guys who insist no change is needed. Leafs are a joke of an organization and huge change is necessary this offseason.

I'm a Bruins fan and I thought Keefe and his staff really had Monty on the ropes in this series. At the very least he gave Florida a blueprint for how to completely shut down the Bruins.

John Tavares as captain is a joke. Once his crazy 11M x 7 ends, either JT comes back for the league minimum or they let him walk/retire. He’s a nice guy - but not enough snarl (and skill) to be the captain of a contender. At least strip the C off. It hurts to say it - but he’s embarrassingly bad.
You guys are the best in the game. Heartbreaking. But we knew it. We knew it wasn’t meant to be but we still kept hope. Need a major reset. We can’t do the same again and expect a different result. I had hope too JD…. Crushed.

I think Boston goalie made some great saves and Toronto goalie let a soft goal in overtime but he too was great. I have to give a hand to Toronto came back to force a game seven. Feel bad for Leaf fans.

During the third period the realization came to me that it would be better in the long run for the Leafs to lose this game. Beating Boston and losing to the Panthers would give a flawed positive just like last year. Losing will force necessary changes.

I agree JD, Woll is not a healthy long term option. Bring in Stolarz or Rittich at a good amount & use Woll & Hildeby as your back-ups. You'd have a good goaltending tandem long term.

Initial thoughts. Before the game find out Matthews is playing, I think do you put in a hurting Matthews and change the chemistry? Then Woll out Sammy in, I think lol blowout.
After the game, they all played good. Every game they were right there except game 4. It came down to the power play not scoring, the power play scores even 3 more goals the series is different. Outlook, Coach, Tavares must go, move Reilly to second pair or trade. I would keep Mitch (he’s young and just entering his prime), but if you can get a haul including a goalie and a D.

Mitch to a media quiet team like Utah, Columbus. He will be close to top 10 points in the league over the next 5+ years, every team will make an offer.
