  • This video shows how to remove and replace a Mavic Zicral spoke. This specifically covers the situation when the spoke is frozen or stuck inside the M7 nipple. This is apparent when you turn the nipple and the spoke turns with it, not allowing you to true the wheel.
    Tools Used in this video:
    Mavic "New" M7 (2011 and newer) Spoke Wrench: 996 079 01
    Mavic "Old" M7 (pre 2011) Spoke Wrench: M40652
    Mavic Bladed Spoke Tool: M40567
    Replacement Mavic spokes and parts can be found at:

    Great tutorial, safety first, simple explanation and to the point. The note about the reverse thread is very handy.

    Very good to know, that they are reverse threaded! thanks! Need to true front wheel a bit

      @RogueMechanic  Před 7 měsíci

      Yes, it's good to know that that they are reverse threaded and keep in mind that because it is a coarse thread, a minor turn on the spoke nipple moves the rim significantly. Go slow!

    Perfect video! Thanks! You might want to hashtag all the Mavic wheels that use these spokes. I’ve got Ksyrium ES that I need to tune up and really appreciate the spoke wrench specs too!! Great help!

    Hi, just a quick tip. You have to mark the replacement spoke with a tape so that you will not be confused between new or old spokes, thanks

    Did you try to run something like WD40 in there to unfreeze the nipple first?

    • @ShadowlordDio
      @ShadowlordDio Před rokem +2

      I did it. If I am going to destroy a spoke I would destroy it trying to unfreeze it turning the spoke one way and the nipple to the other and at least maybe I can unstuck it and save it. But some people seem to have too much money and have parts easy to find so they destroy things and buy new. Not my country

      Was wondering the same thing since my spokes are frozen to the nipple (Kysrium ES). Did Mavic forget the grease when they laced these wheels? The wheels have been great, but they need a bit of truing.

    how about a drop of penetrating oil, nut-buster, on the nipple and waiting five mins Has worked for me and saved me $ in bladed spokes.

      Is the best. But some seem to have too much spare spokes laying around and money. Or something. Haha

      I didn't look through all the replies but what's the exact name metal of the tool for turning the nipple. Also what's the best advice for getting the rim near perfect round, I've gotten the truing down, now just getting it in round vertically?

    Which grease would you recommend putting on the threads and nipple spoke contact point? At my bike shop sticky honey is widely used so i'm considering using that.

    Yeah hello, I was wondering something, I'm trying to build a 24h front wheel and wanted to use bladed spokes, are there any specific hubs I should use? I would be using this wheel for the track. Thanks I would really appreciate any feedback

    what do you do if you tried to take it out but the threads on the outside that you use your tool to loosen, all break off and the it is still stuck in the wheel housing? Do you have to drill it out or is there another way to get that bit out so you can continue with the new spoke installation

    • @RogueMechanic
      @RogueMechanic  Před 2 lety

      Hi Stan! Your question is timely...This is the topic of my next video. I am planning on getting it done in a week or so. I'm planning on going in depth about how I do it. My short answer is yes, you have to remove all of the nipple threads before installing the new spoke. Stay tuned!

    Hi, cant you tell me the exact wrench size? Thanks in advance.

    • @RogueMechanic
      @RogueMechanic  Před 9 lety +2

      Hello, Mavic now has two wrench sizes for their M7 nipples. Any R-SYS wheels and wheels from 2011 and newer use the "new M7" wrench which is 6.4mm outside diameter. All other wheels (older than 2011) that have a M7 nipple uses the 5.5mm outside diameter M7 spoke wrench. The Mavic part numbers are: M40652 (old 5.5mm OD) and 99607901 (New M7 6.4mm OD). The Park Tool part numbers are SW-13 (5.5mm) and SW-12 (6.4mm). I have all of these tools available at roguemechanic.bigcartel.com/ I hope that this info helps!

I saw your site and I beliebe I need the M7 (SW-12) but I'm at Buenos Aires, Argentina. If you have any Ebay link and offer int'l shipping pls. left me the link. Best regards!!!

  • @ShadowlordDio
    @ShadowlordDio Před rokem

    If you were going to break it why don't you just used WD40 and torque wrench it until it goes out?? Maybe can even save it.

    • @RogueMechanic
      @RogueMechanic  Před rokem

      The goal is to remove it without breaking it but sometimes the nipple becomes seized in the rim or to the spoke itself. Rarely does WD40 work as a penetrating lubricant.
