I now understand why Reiner was saying the things he was saying. He spent his entire life living in Marley, being taught that Eldians are devils, but being behind the walls for three years taught him the exact opposite of what he was told. He saw the Eldians as human beings, just people living out their lives as best they can. He was able to finally break free from the shackles that Marley had on him, and had the chance to live free. But when it all came back, his mission, his role as a warrior, and the realization that he’s an Eldian, he gave in to his dark side and his true form was revealed. And Eren’s heart was torn to shreds.
For real the show is so amazing it's like the only and the best anime I've ever seen in my damn life I never cried so much in that scene really emotional and Rhonda was one of my favorites and to see you know how sorry right now is and eren end up forgiving him at the end but I think this is one of like at least one of the best scenes in attack on Titans at least to one of the emotional ones 🥺🥺🥺🥺😊😊😊

The reason why Reiner asked politely was that moment he was thinking they are his friends. But thats when he realized which side he is in. There is no need to ask politely, this is war and they are his enemies.

I love the way reiner says “why” (1:50) this voice actor really captured the pain, conflict and hatred in his voice.
This scene is better in the dub because it catches you off guard more. Like hearing him say "I'm the armored titan and he's the colossal" out of nowhere rather than reading it makes it longer to process in your brain.

@@Markussiemens658 Not only the writers, but the animators. If you look at 3:05, for a split second you can see the armored titan and colossal titan flash on Reiner's and Bertholdt's faces. Not only revealing which titan they are, but also doing it by using impact frames is a clever thing to do.

I watched it today.. Still processing.. So they were kids and got picked to be the titans.. Marcell got killed after saving reiner when they went out camping.. Reiner wanted to break the wall with annie, bertholdt and marcell but he got eaten by ymir.. All bc marcell wanted to protect porco.. And reiner then strangled annie making her pass out.. And reiner and bertholdt broke into the wall causing THIS to happen...
Wow... That was a lot to take in... Just bc they had no choice and broke into the wall... What's even more crazy is that they were outside the wall.. Why? Annie was lucky she made it to the shelter... Armin, mikasa and eren was there too

Alot of emotion gets lost in the translation. While this really isn't bad, the original scene in Japanese is way better imo. Like the first time i saw it, I got goosebumps and felt like i was being betrayed.
Not really. Not amaszing. It is ok, but, for example, Armin's voice actor in japanese is a girl, that's why armin has that childish aura every time he speeks, but here it's more like an 22-25 guy.
And like Robertino said, a lot of emotion get lost. Japanese voice acting has it own tricks and stuff that makes it unique.

THE MUSIC AT THIS MOMENT IS SO EPIC
This is honestly one of the best dubbed anime when it comes to conveying the emotions of all the characters. Reiner's guilt, Bertholdt's surprise, Mikasa's fear for Eren's life and Eren's heartbroken sobs just PACKED with denial and disbelief. He realized right away what Reiner and Bertholdt really were, he just couldn't let himself accept it was real until there was no possible way to deny it
This is one of those animes where I think the English dub is actually better then the Japanese

Something I've just noticed on my, like, 100th rewatch: Bertholdt seems to direct half of his transformation into the wall or sorta parallel to the top of the wall (hence the ribcage generating at 3:16), so 1) he doesn't go full nuclear, and 2) does it so Reiner can survive his own transformation so close, and have Reiner still be able to catch Eren.
It took you 100 rewatches to pick up on this?
Plus it’s meant to be a partial transformation as well, since he wouldn’t be able to stand up and get Ymir if he did a full transformation.
In full transformation case story would've ended right there. I think Armin isn't talented enough to pull that off like bertholdt
@@acclimatized8838 This is true. Bertholdt mastered the Colossal on his first transformation, and as we heard Pieck say, first transformations usually don't go well. This means Bertholdt was extremely adept as a shifter compared to Armin who only got the Titan to save his life and wasn't trained or conditioned like the Warriors.
This sort of attention to detail is what makes this show so damn great!

Yeah I actually think this is one of the few scenes where the dub outclasses sub, the roar was so powerful juxtaposed over the soft notes from the choir voice.

Something that I particularly love about the dub version of this scene is that I believe that anguished scream is literally the only vocal sound emitted by Bertholdt's Titan, it adds so much with so little.

The titan roar should hurt your ears, especially with titans like the Jaw, Attack, and Female, I say the Attack and Jaw since they tend to be a bit more animalistic and harsh in their way if fighting and the female for her ability to project her voice

This scene is SO freaking good
The music shift when Mikasa goes after them is just absolute peak chills
The creator actually wishes he could have expanded upon Bert and Reiner's relation(s) with the other cadets.
Imagine how much more this scene would have hit if we got to dive more into these two.
Eren's whimpering of disbelief as the Armoured Titan carries him off the wall would have a huge moment.
Eren even mentions later in their fight that out of everyone, Reiner was Eren's hero, he wished he could become even half of who Reiner was. His idol, friend and inspiration turns out to be the cause for all of his suffering.
If we got to truly see more of the cadets time in training like the creator wishes he had done, moments like this would have been all the more crazy with even more put into the cast and their connections.
I watched this scene before the anime (rip) and was curious about Bertholdt and Reiner. I thought this scene was super heavy and totally unbelievable but upon watching Season One I realized their entire character is being vague and suspect. When I finally looped all the way back here it kinda fell flat because I pretty much knew just as much about anyone present as I did upon first exposure.
For all the things AoT does great Character Arcs are NOT one of them and I hate it.
@@isaacfaith9369 it is not really the creator’s fault that you watched this epic scene before watching the actual series from the start prior. So if you really think about it, half of the emotions you where supposed to feel when watching this scene for the first time, was basically taken away
@@lanellobubunevortia I can see where you’re coming from but as I said Isayama didn’t really let you know the characters. He just assumes you like them which is pretty bad as is. Then you’re supposed to care that these guys were double agents when you never got to see them as “good guys” at all. The episode even tells you this because it only had TWO scenes to make that “tearjerking” flashback montage from. Epic. Fail. If Reiner & Co. were the main clique of Eren then maybe! But sadly the scene isn’t heart-wrenching whether you got spoiled or not, which is unfortunate.
