    I’ve been doing Alt-E-S-V for years to paste values - Ctrl-shift-v is so much easier to type. All of these are great - thanks!

      Looks like the cell with the leading zeros in it is converted to text

    I use the apps/menu key + v + Enter, but in PowerToys, I had made it so that the ctrl+shift+v was paste values globally and I still can't seem to stick with one or the other and switch in between.
    Some people that have used Excel way before me use the old legacy shortcuts I believe it was alt+e+s+v but could be wrong...
    The leading zeroes is interesting but you can also put a ' and then a 0 to keep it as a text format which is what that setting changed. Unless you can still treat it as a number, I don't really see any any advantages unless you are working with CSV files and need to keep them as CSV files. Still though, always nice to know a feature exists!
    If you only want the 0's purely for aesthetic purposes, probably best to change the format so it always show 'x' amount of 0's. Something like clicking ctrl+1 and changing number format to "0#.##" instead of "#.##"
    Overall, great video! You are definitely right about how annoying it is to watch some new exciting feauture only to realize you don't have it :(

      It's hard to change old habits! I can never remember long keyboard shortcuts, so I tend to stay away from the Alt shortcuts altogether 😜
      The annoying thing about the leading zeros is that once the conversion happens, you have no way of knowing how many zeros were there originally! This has happened to me with ID numbers. You are totally right though, there are several ways to accomplish the same thing! I guess I would want to change the setting if this happened all the time, so it depends on the data you are using regularly.
      Thank you so much!! I'm anxiously waiting for the day they release the new checkboxes to the current channel ✅😀

    CTRL + ALT + V, would probably still be my go to for paste values, just cause of how long I’ve been using it, also for pasting comments or formats etc.

      @@RebekahOster in this video I liked debugging by value preview. I am supportive of your minimalist excel philosophy as it makes your spreadsheets way more understandable auditable for any user with reasonable experience. regarding new features, most of my circle, in spite of being proficient users, are still unaware of earlier features (xlookup, array functions like transpose, unique,sort, filter etc). Maybe you could even rename your channel to emphasize the value you deliver - not some complicated formulas, but the minimalist style.

      You are absolutely right! Can I ask what industry you are in? It can be so easy to just keep using Excel the way you have always used it, even though there could be a better way.
      I appreciate your encouragement! My company name is Excel Power Up, but now I'm curious if Excel Minimalist is more accurate 😜 I'll have to chew on that!!

    I noticed that when you type in the leading zero's the data is aligning to the left, meaning excel is treating the data as text, that's something to be aware of.

      Yes, adds a ' to the start. e.g. '00001.

    • @RebekahOster
      @RebekahOster  Před 6 měsíci

      Definitely! This is a good option for ID numbers, where you don't need to perform any calculations on the numbers. If you do need to do calculations, you can always manually format them as numbers! This option just prevents the conversion from happening automatically. Thanks for the comment 😀
