I was out with my friend and her mom once and there were like 6 girls sitting on their car and in a handicapped zone, a handicapped woman asked for them to move while she was still in the car and they refused.
My friend's mom said, in the sternest voice I've ever heard, "Off." And ended up shoving them off the car, grabbed the keys and moved the car to a pull over space and left it there, they were so mad and we left after she apologised to the woman on behalf of the rude girls

I have a handicap placard, I have Crohn’s, my stomach is almost completely paralyzed (Gastroparesis), and my large intestine as well (S.I.B.O). This leaves me with very low energy, muscle atrophy, chronic pain, and fatigue, I’m only 38. If I’m able to go somewhere it’s because I’m having a symptoms tolerable day. I take into consideration where I am, how many handicap spaces there are, and how close a non handicap spot is, before taking one. The main reason, people with wheelchair lifts, or ppl that need their driver to assist them transferring into the wheelchair need the extra room a handicap spot provides. I feel that is often not considered. Plus the more I walk the more strength I maintain or gain.
