I think the wind actually adds a nice effect to the tone from the siren when it's not making its way into the mic. It sounds good with that slight distortion in my opinion. We use sirens in the US mostly for weather related things anyway, so I find it fitting. 👍I'm not too sure what camera you are using, but when I was using the audio from my Canon for siren recordings on windy days I would loosely cover the mic with a hand towel. The mic on the SX540 HS and SX510 HS happens to be on the top of the camera, so I'd just flip the flash light up to open up some room under the towel and lay it over top the camera. I'd use the neck strap to wrap around everything and hold it in place. I use my Sony's mic for audio now, so I'm working out a way to deal with that since the mics are on the front.
Yes, some wind does add a nice effect, but at that time, It was horribly intense. I wouldn't mind if it was like that during the sound off and the signal itself, but It's bad when the wind destroys the quality of the recording right when these announcements are going off. ^^
I'm using Nikon D5600 and a mic on my phone, since it has way better recording quality. Still need to get a decent exgernal mic for the camera with a windscreen. Haven't got to it yet.

Sounds alot like a Sterling Siren, too bad speaker sirens are rarely designed with a raspy sound.
It's how it is. Modern tones don't include the raspiness of electromechanical sirens.
