    Love the design, look and sound. Some other manufacturers could learn a bit about non-fake exhausts, integrated infotainment screens, actual buttons on the wheel, and no high gloss black fingerprint magnets. Well done Alfa.

    You can set the dampers to softer settings while in Race or Dynamic mode, just press the suspension button in the middle of the DNA selector.

    I own a Giulia QV so happy to hear your detailed review of the Stelvio QV. It appears you did not realize that you can choose between stiff and comfort suspension setting when in Dynamic mode. Your ride would have been more comfortable. These are very interesting cars, very sporty but also relaxed when in Normal/comfort mode. In A mode the car will run on three cylinders to save fuel. So you are correct, you control how much fuel is being used. I've owned a Mercedes AMG and Audi S5, prefer my Alfa Romeo.

    Maybe I’m a little biased because I’m Italian, but this is one of the few SUVs that I like. A friend of mine drove one of these and said that the driving experience is not too far from a sport sedan. Hope you enjoyed it too, because Italian car-industry is facing a severe economic crisis.

    I think Alfa enthusiasts just care for the performance and that’s what this delivers some of the tech isn’t first class but it doesn’t have to be as the design and performance is exceptional

      Want tech? Buy the latest phone. Want engine noise, engineering, sexy design, X factor sensuality? Buy an Alfa. I just wish Alfa and Jag would up their quality. When they do, they'll clean up.

      Exactly. I feel lot of the reviewers missing the point that this car is all about driving enjoyment. I love Thomas but I detect some German bias. The A6 Audi we drove here was much quieter. Oh really? It's not even the same class of vehicle. The Mercedes lift gate closes faster. Who cares? Just listen to that exhaust sound. Yes admittedly the rear view camera is crappy, ithe car doesn't have a digital instrument panel and some of the other gadgets, but it will put a smile on your face even if you do a grocery run and will out handle any German car in it's class.

      @@petertoplak2421 yep totally agree, he keep talking about the electric closing hatch, the infotainment .... blah blah blah and didn't talked about where alfa put the money like the lights aluminium parts, the carbon fiber driveshaft, and especially the expensive double wishbone suspension which we found mostly in high performance cars like Ferrari and Porsche GT3 and that make the Stelio having the best handling in the performance SUV category.

    They fixed the minor negative points (less cheap plastic in the center console) and left or improved the positive points. Might just be the best performance SUV out there.

      yep, but you have to compare prices to competitors, and Im sure this Alfa is cheaper than equivalent competitors, so when speaking about price and negative points , should keep in mind the price vs competitors and all cars have negative points when searched thru
      .

    The less touch screens the more soul and driving pleasure....Nice to see classical speed gauges again in the 2020 cars..!! I hope every car company would give up that electronic toys or tablets to put into the interior of the cars asap...

    Great review as always Thomas. However, you can get adjust the comfort in Dynamic and Race modes by pressing the button in the middle of the DNA switch, whereby the suspension will be set to its intermediate setting.

    I believe the paddle shifters should always be fixed. If you are an experienced driver, you should be in the correct gear prior to turning the wheel for any corners; making the steering wheel mounted paddles redundant IMO. Either way, Alfas are so beautiful.

    I have yet to see a Stelvio Q failing to put a smile on the face of the reviewer.
    Yes, they could be quieter at high speeds (but would imply more weight on the car), Yes the infotainment could be faster. That said, the Stelvio 2020 is top in terms of quality for its segment. I recommend everyonbe to go try it out for yourself.
    It's funny because there's a tendency to look for the inferior aspects on Italian cars and look for the finest details in German brands.
    There's an interesting exercise we could all do, that is reversing this approach.
    It is quite expensive, but it's the top sport model of a 'D' segment compact SUV. The price is not different than other SUV on their top model versions.
    ...and yes, this review is a bit biased. I've seen lots of reviews of the previous model and everybody loves the direct steering. The 2020 might be even better, but it might not. Also many say the suspension is quite smooth and comfortable for a sport SUV, even less firm than some German competition (also on their top sport versions). Maybe the reviewer was comparing it to the A6 instead of the sport versions of the Q5, X3, GLC, etc.
    And to finish it up, so far I haven't found any evidence that the Stevio produces any artificial engine sound through the speakers.

    Very nice review, indeed. Concerning your comment about the seat-belt clip hitting the carbon fibre seat, please verify the plastic "clip-hold" on the seat-belt strap that can be moved up to the door to keep the clip from hitting the seat. It took me a few months to find this out on my Giulia QV with carbo-fibre seat. My Giulia Sport TI that my wife drives also has the same item. Both cars (2018) are incredible without any issues ...just regular maintenance. It is really too bad that reliability keeps coming up from reviews of some of the earlier 2016-2017 models. I recommend those who criticize the reliability issues consult with current owners before commenting or review the more recent models.

    Excellent review as always Thomas! You mention that an Akrapovič exhaust is available as an option. I can't find this on the US nor UK Alfa configurator sites. I also dont see this as available for the Stelvio on the Akrapovič site. Is this something that is planned for a later release?

    Shifting paddels are on the correct place. While fixed you always know where they are and can easily shift while cornering

    I have long been a BMW fan but when it comes to handling and pure driver engagement there is only one SUV for me and it is this Alfa. I had never even contemplated an Alfa Romeo before fate brought me into contact with this machine. After sitting in the passenger seat of this car I was smitten and I knew that I would land up with one of them. And so after taking one for a test drive at my local dealer I bought one and so a torrid love affair began between me and my Alfa. BMW is still my favourite general brand but the Stelvio is my favourite SUV.

    Great test. I hava done recently a comparison between a stelvio Q and an an AMG GLC and for me the Stelvio is the king. The only problem what i met, was the sound. This epic ferrari and AMG sound after 5 minutes became very embarrasing. In the Merc we can turn off with a simple button but in the Alfa we have to switch in N mode and also there the sound is a little bit stronger than in a german competitor. The suspension in the Alfa is very confy and you can set it with the button in the middle of the DNA. In fact you can make more confortable even in D or race mode.

    Hi Thomas. Is not possible to adjust the suspension on the facelifted version? So you can fail back the suspension to normal in dynamic mode? And is it with the facelifted version now possible to set the exhaust as open in dynamic setting so that you don't need to be in Race Mode to get the best exhaust sound?

      @@autogefuehl I believe that, once in Race mode, you can press the button in the center of the DNA controller and set it to a softer suspension. You can't place it in the absolute softest setting while in Race (you can in other settings), but you can make it quite a bit more comfortable.

    Another great review! I considered a Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Loved the engine, loved the sound. The build quality was just so-so, reliability has been spotty, and dealership support in the US is below standard. I bought a Porsche for these reasons, but if I were to rent a vehicle for a day or a week I would pick the Alfa every time!

    The normal seats give more leg room space for the rear passengers. This bucket seats take more space.

    You are talking about stiffness, but forgetting that the DNA button has also a suspension mode (the middle button) which make the susspension softer - which you didnt mention, didnt show and didnt tested. In that case, you just press the middle button and the car has the same comfort as the competitors. You can also combine it, so be in the race mode but with the soft suspension.

    Just put some plastic on one side of that seat belt that hits the seat and makes noise. Or just wrap it with thin material, something thin, so it will still lock in place. Or tape a small piece of cloth on the spot on the seat where it touches. No big deal.....but that noise would be annoying to listen to otherwise. :)

    Thomas, I just traded in my 2021 VW Tiguan SUV for a 2018 Alfa Stelvio. I had bought, and sold, 4 vehicles in 2021, and now in 2022 I've had two. ha ha (75 total since 1974). The Tiguan was pedestrian and bland, I really did not like the FWD torque steering and the Q4 Alfa has is much better. I would have loved to get the QV model, but they are too expensive for me. So, I now drive the W221 Mercedes S Class S550 and a 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio. I am happy.....for the time being! lol At some point I may trade the Mercedes for a used Bentley or Maserati Quattroporte. But not anytime soon. Cheers Thomas!

    The headlamps are tested as the best of its class . why would do they need Lads? Too many sheep around.. and I love the sound of the door closing .. do it 2 times on every ride!! pity they do not send the Sound with Bluetooth to my headphones.

    I watched about 15 different reviews for this car. This is the first one, where the drivers actually stays within the speed limits.... And that's exactly the problem, dude. You are a wrong guy for this car, no offense)) People buying these cars have a budget for speeding tickets...)) Noise insulation and software speed, interior quality and self driving? Who cares about those things in QV Alfas? This car gives exactly what most German cars don't - emotions. They can be fast, but they won't make you smile like you did...I own a fast tuned Audi s4 b8.5 and I can tell that this SUV is better in every single way, including noise insulation, interior, speed, engine sound, practicality and even fuel efficiency. That supercharged v6 in Audi drinks like an alcoholic......I can go on with this list. When I sell my Audi this Stelvio will be my first option in the shopping list.

      Two years ago my dad bought a car from this racer kid
      We had to get to the dmv that was way on the other side of town before it closed
      The guy said I don’t know if you can keep up
      I said it’s not the car it’s the driver
      We made it to the dmv
      And he said “I’ve never met a girl that can drive like you😳😱
      You should come ride w me and my friends”
      I told him once I update my car I’ll be back to race w him and his friends 😂🤣
      This is the car/suv I’ll be getting. I’m happy to know that it’s fast thanks
      It was between this and Porsche Macan

      @@autogefuehl 2 times. Especially parts devoted to the wheels and multimedia looking for the brakes and Android info, but..( Might have skipped couple of seconds here and there in the driving section

    What a fun review! The engine is fantastic. Hearing the sound just made me smile even though I was just watching this on a computer screen. It's a drivers car. I think buying it, it's possible to forgive the xenon lights and the older tech and other little things. But the price is a little too high. Makes you think of at least considering Macan GTS or even Turbo at that price.

      @@korvics So you haven't even driven it? Did you listen to the review? I have the Giulia Quadrifoglio. It really is amazingly comfortable. The DNA settings all have a noticeable difference. It's a true Jekyll and Hyde vehicle. In Normal mode, my car is like a Lexus in terms of ride comfort. I have a friend with a Stelvio, and it's the same. The chassis and suspension tuning are magic.

      @@thomasferrarojr.9772 that's good to know. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to drive it (hence me watching this review) and have since purchased a different car. Thomas however does point out that suspension is tuned to be fairly stiff. Perhaps the facelifted model is slightly different? In any case thanks for your information.

    Hi Thomas, i watched over 50 reviews of the Stelvio Quadrifoglio and everyone says that its the absolute best driving SUV.
    Even better then AMG's, M's, RS's, Porsche's, even better then the Urus one said:
    1.) Becuase if was engineered by 3 main Ferrari People (Maccione, Fidelli, de Lucca)
    2.) Because it has a Ferrari engine
    3.) Becuase the gearbox only needs 150 mili seconds to change gears
    4.) Because the steering-ration is the best in class (only 12:1)
    5.) Because its 150 kg - 400 kg lighter then the competition
    6.) And because of its really cool sound
    What is your opinion? Sure, the material quality, luxury is not close to some AMG/Porsche, also the tech gadgets are not on the level of an Audi/Bimmer etc., but i'm asking you just for the driving dynamics.
    I really belive your reviews, so i would really apriciate your opinion on that car.

    You keep talking about the electric closing hatch, the infotainment .... blah blah blah and didn't talked about where alfa put the money like the lights aluminium parts, the carbon fiber driveshaft, and especially the expensive double wishbone suspension which we found mostly in high performance supercars like Ferrari and Porsche GT3 and that give the Stelio the best handling in the performance SUV category and 200 Kg less than its rivals Porsche Macan Turbo and BMW X3M

      actually u missed everything , interior if borrowed is from Alfa Romeo not other way around , so back in your shit can and cry a bit more about how unreliable Italian cars are , when they literally proved that Italian cars are more reliable , and cheaper to maintain than German cars.

    1:45 I don't see how LED headlights are better than Xenon. Xenon has been proven to be much better than LED on low beam, and LED is just known to be better on high beam. Also, it all depends on the type of the headlight, here you can see projector type which is perfect for Xenon. LED type of bulb focuses light better with reflector headlights.
    PS. I love your reviews but had to speak my mind regarding this :)
