    I like these. Some are very tricky indeed.
    Easiest was my favourite symphony of all times! Mr D.S. 5th.

      I still need to listen to Shostakovich to find some confusing fragments for future quizzes))

    i recognized Gabriel Fauré's Pavane and Camille Saint-Saëns' Symphony No. 3 by tune, but not by name. The only ones I fully recognized were Paul Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Edward Elgar's Nimrod. But I'm grateful for being introduced to so much great music, whether classic or not. Thank you again!

    12/15 for me this time. I missed the Leoncavallo but knew the other classical composers.

    14/15. Ignoring usage of Classic/Not I just went with before/after 1950. I was tripped up by Verdi - I started with Not then thought Classic but stuck with Not. Out of the other 7 pre-1950 composers I knew 6 of them.

      Using a division into years of melody composition is a much more accurate criterion, but more boring. But if it’s more convenient for you, then I’m all for it. And I specifically added the year of composition for each melody. Thanks for result.

    15/15, somehow the modern works have a different "feel", though some were still a bit tricky.

    Great video as always! What about film scores before 1950? There are some beautiful ones but I'm sure that would also be confusing. Or things like broadway music (which you could incorporate for some variety if you want, like Andrew Lloyd Webber or Les Mis.

      Thanks for the comment and new ideas. I also think about quizzes not only on classical music, but also on the music that surrounds it. For example, I myself love various instrumentals. But here I need to come up with an interesting format, and this is a little more difficult))

    I got two (and potentially a half as I only guessed it very late) wrong, great quiz! The introducing music also fits in really well with that fake für Elise intro lol

    I see this as a meaningless distinction. A lot of the “non-classical” music consists of film scores, but avowedly classical composers wrote plenty of film scores like Vaughan Williams or William Walton or Benjamin Britten and plenty of people considered film composers have written pieces that would have to be considered classical pieces, from John Williams to Danny Elfman. Where would we place music by, say, Dmitri Tiompkin or Erich Korngold, or for that matter Shostakovich, who wrote many film scores. Is a Shostakovich film score classical music or not? If the distinction is music before or after 1950, thats valid but pretty arbitrary. And I just realized maybe a good quiz would be whether the composer had William as part of their name.

      Thank you for your comment. I understand your feelings and comments perfectly. But just try to look at this video through the eyes not of a classics lover, but of a music and film lover who just wants to have fun. By the way, about "William", I can really come up with something funny))

    • @eliecanetti
      @eliecanetti Před měsícem

      @@adiosmusictestthanks. I’ve greatly enjoyed your other videos. This one just left me feeling slightly uneasy. I guess it stems from my feeling that we shouldn’t put up arbitrary barriers to people enjoying whatever they want to listen to and I think a lot of people recoil from listening to music when they hear it’s “classical” (and on the other side some classical snobs probably don’t want to “stoop” to listen to contemporary film music). So my comment was more along the lines of trying to break down arbitrary barriers that could impede people’s openness to a category of music they might not normally consider listening to. But it’s clear you were not trying to do that, and I think you’re saying i should just lighten up and of course you are right! Bring on the William video.

    Your definition is a bit odd. By that one Shostakovich 10th Symphony is not classic.
    That being said: 15/15
    I believe that is the first of your quizzes I tried where I made no mistake. Yay me!

    • @adiosmusictest
      @adiosmusictest  Před 2 měsíci +1

      This is not a definition. I simply take classical melodies before 1950, and I will not use classical melodies written after 1950 in the quiz. Thanks for result.

    • @anthonynewton9156
      @anthonynewton9156 Před 2 měsíci

      The term "classical" is a broad and all encompassing term used to describe any musical composition that was composed before the modern day. So anything before 1950 fits into that category.

    Very easy! Bad music is new, good one is older. With the exeption of the horrible Elgar.
