They changed the rules that year, specifically because of how dominant the St. Louis offense was, allowing DB's to contact with receivers far more then in years past. If you watch the game, the NE DB's were straight mugging the Rams receivers off the line, in some cases taking them to the ground. This definitively disrupts a timing offense. Once the Greatest show on turf was no more, the league changed the rules back to the old standard.

justfitz08 Technically, since 2007, not just 2007, the Patriots have been able to maintain a consistent high-powered offense that can perform in all conditions. Recall how bad the Pats made the 2010 Bears defense look in a raging snowstorm in Chicago, after Moss had already been released.
The Rams had a good 3 year offensive run from 1999-2001, but they couldn't maintain it. They carried the SB hangover into 2002 and never really got their offense in gear after that.

Every single one of those offenses scored more points and had a higher percentage of drives ending in an offensive score than the 2000 Rams. I know not everything is about stats, but at the end of the day scoring points is what offense is all about. I guess you could argue that the game evolved over time, but that still leaves us with the 98 Vikes.

The biggest difference between this team and the 07 or 13 broncos was they had a hall of fame running back who could dominate games. The pats and broncos didnt have that.
