Lightning To The Nations 2020, available now at: smarturl.it/DHLTTN2020
When Diamond Head first released Lightning To The Nations 40 years ago in 1980, few could have predicted the importance it would carry with regards to heavy metalâs new wave and sound. Stacked and packed with riffs, Lightning To The Nations would be one of the prime catalysts for a movement known as the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM).
â
Re-imagined, re-recorded and re-born in 2020, Diamond Headâs forthcoming 40-year celebration of their genre-defining debut album is a scintillating shot of fresh metal energy. With Lightning To The Nations 2020 listeners experience not only the rare phenomenon of crisp, fresh and new sounding songs with very little of the obvious original elements altered, they will also be treated to four supreme cover versions⊠And in prime position stands Metallicaâs âNo Remorseâ.
Recorded over several sessions between various locations, from France to band membersâ home studios, Lightning To The Nations 2020 central hub was Andersenâs Raw Sound Studios in London. Itâs where Brian and Abbz did the guitars in February and March of this year, and then with the COVID-19 chaos striking, Andersen worked on the album between April and July, with Tatlerâs watchful ear inspecting final mixes and tweaks in early August before sending off to mastering at Metropolis Studios in London.
This edition of the album sees Diamond Head spreading their wings and creating the heaviest of homages also to Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest and Deep Purple. Lightning To The Nations 2020 (November 27th 2020, Silver Lining Music). Available in multiple formats, special D2C bundles, including a limited edition autographed âNo Remorseâ poster: smarturl.it/DHLTTN2020

Diamond Head are an English heavy metal band formed in 1976 in Stourbridge, England. The band is recognised as one of the leading members of the new wave of British heavy metal movement and is acknowledged by thrash metal bands such as Metallica and Megadeth as an important early influence.
Diamond Head are: Brian Tatler (guitars), Rasmus Bom Andersen (vocals), Karl Wilcox (drums), Dean Ashton (bass), Abbz (guitars). - Hudba
This man may have singlehandedly invented thrash metal. He deserves more recognition
I looked up a tutorial and found metallicas name claiming the song fucking disappointed
@@nightguy8555 James Hetfield said in a concert in 2013 that he song was from diamond head, wtf are you talking abt
They've always praised diamond head. Back in like 1982 in interviews they are asked what their favourite band is and they say diamond head
And in their garage albums, they only play covers of songs they like, and they play like 4 diamondhead songs on there. They never said they wrote it
@@net-yz7mx not metallica claiming the song but people claiming it as a metallica song sorry didnt word it right lmao
I love the fact that they're uploading things all the time, stories, new music, music videos, q&a and now guitar lessons! They understand how to engage with their fans and how to make new ones
I knew their songs because of Metallica, but the new re-recorded version of Lightning to the Nations has got me hooked on Diamond Head

Love how the basic riffs and song structure was explained expertly, and then the solo hit like "just do this"
Glad he confirmed that Metallica covered this, for those who persist that Diamond Head copied it...Great lesson Brian!
Who says DH copied it? Obviously they made it before Metallica

Iâve met people that think the whole garage days albums was Metallica originals lol.

Diamond Head are a band that deserved so much more success than they got. So many magnificent songs. I first discovered them 35 years ago, ironically through the Metallica cover of Am I Evil. Makes me so happy that theyâre still going, and weâre still talking about their epic music. đđ€
Same here.
Hey man. I was 14 during August 1987 when Garage Days came out. I had my cassette of Metallica. This good gentleman is inviting us into his creation. \m/....\m/. Yes, I did read the liner notes on my cassette.
I think they did pretty well. This is one of the best metal songs ever written. Metallica pay their royalties every time they play this song. What more can you ask for...
Will never understand how diamond head never went on to be one of the biggest metal bands ever. The white album was probably the greatest debut album ever. Blew me away when it came out. Luckily mine was signed by Mr Tatler. Still listening to it 40 years later. Pure class đ€đŹđ§
Is Like Anvil, They made very good albums but they never got that recognition because of the labels

The best riff Tony Iommi never wrote.
I love the smile on his face when he starts playing "the riff". Ive been a rocker all my life but had never heard this song until a few months ago on "Ozzy's Boneyard" at Sirius Xm.
No disrespect sir, but the heck have you been all these yearsđ
@@BobMaori No kidding! but now I know!!
Wtf? Really? Better late than never, i guess. Amazing track, isn't it?
@@miguelg4006 I feel embarrassed and enlightened at the same time! But the good news is I've told both my sons about Diamond Head and they love it! My oldest who's a very good guitar player knows the "riff" now. Now they won't spend decades not knowing! And yes Its an amazing track!
So cool that he can play the solo spot on to this day.
Uh, you think it could have something to do with playing it every show for the past 40 years?
@@haywoodyoudome uh perhaps. My point is many solos on many songs are improvised when played live.
Who else wants another guitar lesson? đââïžâ ïžđ€đž
To the 25 people who didn't like this video. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career, skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you rethink your vote, that'll be the end of it.
For as long as Brian is still in the band, Diamond Head is still Diamond Head no matter who else is in the band. The man is a damn legend.
I learned that song when I was 17, back in the late 80's. And I always thought that the verse riff in B was tricky as well - I feel better now that I know that Brian thinks so too. Nice V, brother! đ€
This lesson is a national treasure for all us players who were inspired by your music. Thank you, Brian. đ€
I started playing this song in a band in the 80s. It was a blast. Most people would never have heard of Diamond Head if it weren't for Metallica. I admit, I'm one of them.
Legend. This music will be discussed 100 years from now with the same passion.
While I was waiting for my wife to come out of work once Brian Tatler got out of his car and walked past. I thought, it's Brian Tatler!!! He was visiting someone on the street. Looked like he was carrying a birthday present. So nosey I am haha!
Such a humble, reserved man. I've had the privilege to see Tatler twice with the most recent, excellent lineup, and I just totally fucking love the new recordings of old songs with the latest band. I've had the chance to meet the man, and tell Brian how much I love what he does.. His vocalist is top notch.. HIS BAND IS TOP NOTCH, AND NEEDS AS MUCH GOOD PROMOTION AS POSSIBLE!
He's a Rock God and a gentleman, a metal legend â ïžâ ïžâ ïžđ€đ€đ€
Am I the only one thinking Brian is not only a gentleman but also a very underrated guitarist? Glad seeing you with a V again :)
One of the greatest guitar solos these ears have ever heard. And Brian is an anazing guitarist.
Its great to see Diamond Head getting some over due credit and a spot light on their huge body of work

Damn!! How to really really play Am I Evil, second part with solo lesson step by step will be epic!!!
Throw on the record. He showed you all of the important parts. You will learn it better this way.
@@wrayven Have you ever seen the videos where the real artist shows the right way to play something and they let you know that the Professional Transcribers got some of it wrong (Thin Lizzy's Scott Gorham's CZcams Lesson for "Boys are Back in Town" comes to mind)?
Well, I am NOT a professional transcriber, so I would love to have a follow up lesson by Brian himself teaching that great solo! I certainly wouldn't think the World or I would be better off without it.
P.S. I'm not saying that your comment doesn't have plenty of merit. I'm just saying that I love CZcams Instructional videos and I learn visually as much as (if not more so) than I learn by ear. Plus, I'm still just a drummer who branched into guitar 27 years ago (and I still suck).
Im so grateful I live in a time I can just pull out my phone and learn a song straight from the virtuose who wrote it himself
Yay, a guitar lesson from legend himself! Thank you Diamond Head!
Only a tuition video, but as soon as that riff hit my head started banging! An all time classic number.
I finally realized just how many sweet riffs are packed into this one song \m/
This is stupendous. Getting taught songs so explicitly by the actual band members.
I love the solo part in Am I Evil. The entire rythm section marries so well with the tapping and the rest. Just love the melodies together so much
Dear Brian yes, I did enjoy that thank you. I can still scratch my head and wonder why at the height of the NWOBHM in the 80's. Diamond head, Saxon, Witchfynde and Girlschool didn't become hugely successful like Iron maiden and Def Leppard did. IMHO you were far better than them and deserved much more recognition than you got. I remember listening to the Friday rock show with Tommy Vance. He really tried to push you and usually played at least one of your songs weekly.
You truly deserved to become really successful. My all time favourite track of yours 'sweet an innocent' warmest wishes to you
so sick, I love when the actual guitar player shows you how to play their song.
I just love the joy in Brian's face as he shows us just how MUCH he achieved, and still can achieve! Inspiring and beautiful.
This man is a Bloody goddamn legend
One of the great heavy metal songs, especially that wicked solo
that solo bit was so badass I cant really explain how much so. I was just not expecting you to jump in there with the track in such a bad ass manor. Metallica is lucky to have a covered you guys!
Can't play guitar but still sat through the whole video transfixed! I've loved this song from the first time I heard it back in the mists of time and it always give me goosebumps!
Hopefully, one day, I can get to stand in front of you and see it in the flesh!
Take it easy, dude!

Diamond Head did a acoustic gig in my small home town many years ago still one of my favourite gigs.
Brian thank you for this fantactic lesson! Finnaly i got the idea how to play last tricky hammers-on riff!
The solo was played with such a finesse.... Amazing!
Never realized diamond head riffs were this fun to play
I cannot express my gratitude to Diamond Head enough for making my life much better with their music. I never get tired of listening to them!
My first gig... Glasgow Apollo, Oct 1982. Diamond Head with Tank as the support band. Unforgetable!
It was supposed to be Twisted Sister opening that night but their UK abel went bust...
How does one write a song like this? This is just mind blowing.
The riffs, the solo, the lyrics. Everything just blends so well. True masterpiece.
Itâs always easier when the person who actually made the music explains how to play a certain song of theirs. Before I found this, it took me 4 days to learn the main riff. After finding this video, it only took about 2 hours to learn every riff except the solo
Deadly...Absolutely Deadly!
Still got the chops đ

One of the first songs I learned to play - and played it in all my high school bands as a teen!! :)
That is so damn cool and I'm here playing enter sandman đ

2:11 - THE RIFF!!! What an amazing tune. Can't wait for the next album đ€
Such amazing song. Timeless classic.
Fun Fact: Brian and Phil Cope of Witchfinder General had the same guitar teacher.
When the solo hits with the backing tracks...This is soooo good! Thank you & Merry Christmas.
Used to play this with the band I was in. We were all 17-18 jr sr high school and we would go to my buddies house up the street. His room up stairs had his drum set and our guitars and amps. We didnât have great gear but we rocked out the school talent shows. This was circa 2001-2003. Great times thanks for the great song and memories.
Old but goldđ€© suuuper excited to learn this song from the OG himself!!! Thank you so much
Finally, we get a lesson from the original. As someone learning the art of guitar these are invaluable. Can't wait for a lesson for Lightning to the Nations! đ€
We did enjoy that and are grateful to your contribution in developing the metal sound over the years. Many bands were inspired by your playing. Thank you sir!

I have learned so much on guitar over the years just by listening to your music. Thank you Brian and Diamond Head!

just awesome! so great to have these fellas showing us how to live thorough the 70s and 80s again
Oh maaaaan this was awesome! Thanks for your time and your MAGIC, Brian \,,/
Got into Metallica in early 1987, 7th grade. A friend let me borrow the Elektra re-release of 'Kill 'Em All' in the fall of 1988, I think it came out in anticipation of 'Justice'. I loved all the tunes on it, especially 'Four Horsemen'.
As the year went on, I gravitated more and more towards 'Am I Evil?'. At some point, it became this weird pattern of listening to 'Four Horsemen', flipping the tape, fast forwarding through 'Metal Militia', listening to 'Am I Evil?', flipping the tape, fast forwarding through 'Hit the Lights', and starting all over again.
In the summer of 1989 we flew to England, the entire trip I listened to almost exclusively 'Am I Evil?', play + rewind, play + rewind, etc. I focused on the fast half of the song, especially the solo. It was a rush listing to the solo as the plane landed and took off.
About a year later, I figured out that this was actually a cover, not a Metallica original. Because of the success of 'Justice' (I think), some older NWOBHM stuff was getting new traction, and an older Diamond Head compilation 'Behold the Beginning' made its way on to the shelves of our little record shop in 1989, complete with liner notes from Mr. Ulrich. I recognised the band's name from the 'Kill 'Em All' liner notes, and was please to discover other great tunes Metallica had covered, 'Helpless' and 'The Prince'.
Anyway, Diamond Head's first album is amazing, and I'm shocked to not see it on more 'best metal albums of all time' lists, it was *clearly* a huge influence.
Very pleased to see this video.
Beautiful!
Thnx Mr. Tatler for sharing your arts.
I saw DiamondHead support Thin Lizzy when I was 18, and DiamondHead were the better band. Brian was on fire
Great stuff. Thanks Brian and @diamond head official for this. Hopefully more in the pipeline!!!
Such a great video. This brings a metal legend bye the house for a jam lesson. Thank you sir
Such a brutal riff and great solo section, the foundation for a lot of other metal bands!
This was one of my absolute favourite tunes to play back when I used to play guitar in the late 90s and early noughties.
Thanks Brian ... much more complexity to the song than I realized.
An unjust amount of favourites for this...
That smile when he plays the main riff.
That is music all about.

Thanks dude great lesson. Great song. Stay strong !!!
Thank you so much for this, Brian. I love getting a history lesson here and there.
magico!
Great tone by the way! I love this rounded, full guitar sound. One of the greatest riffs of all time.
Brian Tatler is in my Top 10 for biggest influences on my guitar playing. His riffs are just beyond killer. He's an amazing rhythm player. Also I really hope they do a 40th anniversary re-issue of Borrowed Time and some playthroughs of songs from that album on this channel. I loved that album
