Gatekeeping good. Not spoon-feeding people information keeps out everyone with only a superficial surface level interest and people who actually care enough will do their own research to find answers. Very easy and simple way to keep out blow ins and don't even get me started on how important it is to gatekeep second hand markets. Limited supply + high demand = expensive and hard to get. Lose a bit of hope in the world every time I see someone out a lesser known piece or good place to buy said pieces for a couple of likes online.

I think as times change, people change the way they seek and share info too. I'm sure some oldheads think that googling is "too easy" as well, and that people should rather read books and magazines if they are "truly interested". If it wasn't for people like you sharing info on youtube f.ex, I would probably know a lot less today.
But ofc, I don't think anybody is obligated to share all their info about everything either. :)
You nailed it on the head. People don't understand that there's no obligation to share anything that they don't want to share. But, I think not knowing the exact ID on a piece for example, is a good thing. IMO its not about what you wear vs how you wear it. Thus, searching for a similar piece or style can promote a little more self discovery and broaden horizons a little bit. There's probably a lot more than should be said on the topic hahahha but thank you for the comment bro!

Gatekeeping is a lost art tbh if you really wanna find it you’ll go down the rabbit holes to find it. I think just giving people information handed to them they don’t hold the information with genuine value or care so it’s one ear out the other I think doing the research in anything is important and builds such a strong foundation for what you enjoy what you like as well as information to then create or interpret things in a broader more intricate sense rather than someone just telling you “yeah the jeans are *insert any brand*” now you have the item but you would’ve maybe found a ton of cooler shit along the way searching for them

Nah man, I’m a big fan of your aesthetic and ideas but that gatekeeping take is not it. Culture and knowledge is there to be shared, you yourself started a long and interesting aesthetic journey because you find out about brands people wanted to gatekeep. Some people simply don’t know where to start and will never know how if that’s the vibe within the scene. Just my two cents of course. Keep the great work.

wow, im sorry, but gatekeeping anything really, is ridiculous, and im a bit ashamed to see someone so blatantly be for ir and all the comments agreeing .
But let's start from the beginning: The great thing about the internet is being able to share knowledge and teach people something new, and something you are passionate about. Since the dawn of time, we have been teaching others what we know. Not everyone can afford the time to spend X amount of time searching for Y piece, specially people who aren't clothing influencers.
The whole "getting things on a silver platter" I can kind of understand, many people are entitled and expect everything easy, but being honest, a channel with 50k subs is niche, when it comes to the whole fashion landscape. You aren't Luka Sabbat, so someone getting here is already a "rabbit hole", and not wanting to share your knowledge comes of a lot more as "I want to seem cool for knowing something most people dont, or having sometimes other dont" than actually stimulating searching and studying.
If you dont want to just say "I got this piece form his collection that can be found on this website", you should do like (new) college teachers do, and stimulate that search by facilitating their scope of search, than say "go after your rabbit hole". Can you image if other lines of knowledge, for example medicine, doctors gate kept knowledge from students and said "I had to search hard for this, so I won't teach you". Can you see how petty that sounds?
And for Owen especially, I've been following your channel since the very beginning, posting videos in your basement about Alyx hiking boots, and remember very vividly when you first got into CCP, how many were calling you a poser about getting into the brand, how it should have been GATEKEPT, and how you didnt really like that and didnt understand why people thought like that.
Its really quite sad seeing someone get a bit of steam, be more relevant in the fashion space and switch up on a dime.
Just my thoughts, but hope you can stew a bit on this different point of view.
He's not a teacher. He is doing what he does and shares it with a community and for that particiular thing He doesn't owe us every information. It's just fashion and style. Don't try to hard. For me it's just an inspiration but if you followed all his Vids you already know that grailed and Japan thing. No hate. I am not his lawyer. 😉
