- RuPaul's Drag Race Season 14 was one of the gaggiest, twistiest, wildest seasons we have ever seen on the series. Having to meet a 16 episode quota, they started throwing whatever they could at the wall, and for the most part, it all stuck. But along the way, fans started calling out just how rigged this season was.
From the chocolate bar twist that had to be planned from the jump to a suspicious edit in Snatch Game, there were a lot of blatant moments of production riggory going on, and I'm here to break them all down episode by episode. From Jorgeous' win in the Glamazon Prime challenge, to Jasmine sashaying away in a lip sync smackdown. Did Willow Pill and Angeria really deserve all those high placements? And who was slept on by the judges?

Maddy started drag out of being unsure of her sexuality and gender identity. It hurts hearing people saying she doesn't belong here when she uses her platform for positivity. She respects the art, and clearly the queens on the cast love her.
Remember when someone (I forgot who, I think it was Angie) randomly said, "I miss Maddy" in one of the episodes after her elimination? No one even brought her up.... She's clearly a good friend to the other girls.
Her statement in the reunion about drag not being for everyone because it is a gay art form and you have to respect those queer roots was so good. I think that fully proved she deserved to be there and definitely needs to be on an all star season

The fact that production tried so obviously to misrepresent Maddy and depict her as "awkward straight man who doesn't do good drag", only for her to come out of it as the premier and much beloved meme queen with an array of inspired iconic looks and overflowing comedic talent, is so gratifying to me. I hate that they edited her like that, but I love how she's made them look like total out of touch clowns after the fact.
Maddy is killing the game with Give It To Me Straight! Everybody wants her for either All-Stars or Pit Stop host! 🥰
Hope maddy can go on all stars and show how much her drag has grown and give her a fairer representation
According to the cast, Maddy was actually pretty funny and talkative in the workroom and everything, production just cut her out to push forward their “straight man is uncomfortable around gay people” story.
Lazy storytelling. All those Emmy’s and they give us that.
So heartbreaking. His character still came through, at least. I really hope he gets a fair shake on an All Stars at some point 🤞
I didn’t watch the season because I just haven’t gotten around to it but I did watch the pit stop and I remember they’d just be like “oh is the straight one still here yeah okay then” and when there’d be an outfit that I thought looked good just wasn’t great they’d be like “yeah not good next” and I thought there must be something more I’m missing here because They probably wouldn’t have casted Maddie if Maddie wasn’t actually entertaining
Maddie was frickin' funny on social media. The edit didnt do her any justice at all
I thought that it seemed like Maddy was getting this odd edit on the show. She genuinely seemed to love drag as a form of art and respected all of her fellow queens and felt comfortable to be around them. Maddy being a straight man out of drag has nothing to do with the looks she served and it was nice to see a straight ally on the show.
So glad we’re acknowledging maddy was completely robbed this season.
I don't think she was robbed, i think it's honestly a stretch to say she was completely robbed.
I think alyssa was the only queen being robbed on that season, like she was very polished and versatile.
Maddy however, while very funny after drag race on lives and reunion, she was not bringing it totally on the show.
Her looks weren't up to par with the other queens, the headless one was the only real gag and even that one was a bit unpolished.
I think Maddy was nervous as well and Ru wanted her "pussy to be on fire" which was the entire issue with Maddy, she wasn't giving us that fire.
She was great in the Supertease, but other than that she was going as far as she can imo, like after the country look, it was the end of her run.
I think her elimination was very fair and i am hoping we get to see her on All Stars, cause the Maddy after drag race is very quick witted and more confident.

Maddy wasn’t fully polished. Look at her shoes on most of her looks. Not even wearing heels. The outfits were missing elements that could push it to the next level. They were missing glam. And she fully deserved to go home on that Raggedy Ann look.

@@InternetWAPx I don't think she means robbed of the win, but robbed of a good edit - maddy is and was funny, nearly all the girls said they would want her on their team for a comedy challenge because she is creative. it shows on her IG, she's clever and funny and self-deprecating/aware. I think Maddy is pushing boundaries, because she's a rare example of gender/masculinity being rejected and that not being mutually exclusively tied with queer sexuality.
my only disagreement is that maddy was THE BEST in super tease, she absolutely outshined everyone and all of her lines and her faces actually made me laugh , if they had put her liberal dads joke in it wouldve been hard to deny her win so thats why they didnt i guess

Still Maddy was such a great writer and director, and was hilarious in all of her screen time. If drag doesn’t work out for her and Bosco, they should go into the film industry. They are great!!!
They’d never let a cishet win the season. Being cast was enough representation from producers eyes. A win maybe would be too controversial. Maybe future seasons after seeing the reaction to her. So I don’t think they ever had Maddy in their eyes of the winner. Like Gia on all stars.

I know a lot of people were like "omg this season is sooooooo long whats with all the non elims!" I never cared, honestly if I may be so bold, this is one of my favorite casts of all time, at least in the top 5. There is not a single girl I dislike.
I just enjoyed the ride!

They really wanted to make it look like Jorgeous has another talent besides being an amazing lip syncer and dancer when they totally didn't have to, it would have been okay to say she has room to grow in other categories, but is a master of dancing, it feels like her win actively made her less favourable in the viewers eyes.
I see that her edit was mostly similar to plastiques on season 11 giving her a win was just a way for them to justify her staying longer and return for an all stars and definetly made just to go to werk the world but she would’ve been fine without the win regardless but I see how producers see outside of the show and think of the future of each contestents with them and their many franchises

Listening to Willam talk on her podcast about how terribly they treated Kenya, I'm not surprised but still sad about how the ESL queens are treeated
Willam was right about Angeria too, they had top 5 to have any black queen in the finale of season 14, after 3 seasons in a row where white queen with best record lost to black queen with very poor record in comparison (11 to 13 were clearly Brooke/Gigi/Rose as winners). In season 13 they crowned a queen that can't make any clothes without this Marko guy that was pornstar in onlyfans and makes all her clothes, and all wigs for her were made by Gigi as Symone can't do a single thing by herself.
Shame USA went to the point that it's impossible to speak facts as facts, to not be attacked by minority. Angeria clearly lost lipsyncs in Lalaparuza and top 5.

Honestly Maddy was done so dirty this season and not just by production. The way people, especially some rugirls, tore her to shreds over her being straight really rubbed me the wrong way and it felt like a massive step backwards for no good reason. I cannot help but feel like the "controversy" surrounding her influenced the edit. If they can almost completely erase predator pie (deservedly) right before her season aired, what could they have done in response to the drama surrounding Maddy's casting?
She still would have gone home when she did tho. The whole thing besides the finale is filmed when we meet the queens so they edited out s pie but she was supposed to be in the finale.
💯 like the “cool kids” didn’t want to let her sit at the table. Compare how Scaredy Kat was treated on S1 UK, it was barely discussed
Everyone that judged the pitstop when Maddy was on had to go out of their way to bash Maddy for no reason. You'd think somebody like Gotmik wouldn't care, but then she has the audacity to critique Maddy for being straight without looking at what she's doing...
The queens from previous seasons need to remember how they got there. Gotmik could have been told no because she's trans, but yet it isn't NEARLY as interesting as when somebody out of the queer community shows a true appreciation and respects it just as much.
I'm sick of the RuGirls pretending that they are magically better than everyone after being on tv...

Angeria got the weirdest edit this season for me. She should've won 4 challenges in my opinion and absolutely dominated the entire first half of the season (except Daytona Wind) and yet we barely got to know her in the storyline. She always gave good confessionals and was entertaining to watch but it was clear that they never had the intention of crowning her since they never let us get to know her home life, her motivations or just anything about her besides that she's great at drag.

Her Save a Queen commerical was great too. I honestly think Production should have sacrificed Deja in the Design challenge and Maddy could have taken her spot and gone alot further as the remaining challenges I think she could do well at

@@ZZ-tp4ny She wouldn't have won, she needs a lot of practice in refining her sewing and design skills and she's never been a dance performer to speak of, but she would have got furthur than she did if they hadn't stacked multiple design challenges back to back in early eps in order to make sure she didn't get to the challenges where she was probably the most talented of the group.

19:13 I find this part really interesting because you just talked about how production cut a lot of Maddys funny moments in the challenge, and I truly think that carries over into her overall edit too. There was an interview with some of the girls and I believe it was Angeria who talked about how they cut a lot of Maddys funnier moments of the season. I feel like they missed a big opportunity to show Maddy joking around and having fun with the queens, but instead they gave her the storyline of a lost straight guy who wandered into this queer space and looks really scared. Maddy and Alyssa are the two queens who absolutely deserved better throughout the season and I best be seeing them get invited back to All Stars.
I 100000% agree. I had NO idea what to expect until I saw Maddy at Roscoes (well on CZcams I'm broke) just being so witty.
I would add in Orion to the list of people done dirty. Orion is a local girl here in West Michigan, and I definitely have seen the CRAZY humor she has. So many good queens, and yet 5 of them only got showcased correctly
I think she was a really creative queen too? Her Marie Antoinette looks blew me away and the looks she gave on her Instagram after she was sent home were amazzinnggg

I was so upset when Alyssa was eliminated. I was like she does not deserve to go home like this next to a girl who is beautiful, but was too afraid to lipsync and ruin her outfit. And I've totally fallen in love with Maddy over TikTok since her elimination. And Orion hooked me from the meet the queens videos. I feel they all got the short end of the stick and I feel for them. I love all of them and i need them back for an all stars season.
It made me so mad that they cut Kerri’s “Somebody’s momma come get her… please!” and Maddy’s “When I came out as straight my fathers disowned me” out of the Super Tease episode
as a bosco fan, thank you for highlighting how well she did during the beginning/middle portion of the season. it was really sad to see a lot of the fandom turn on her after the chocolate bar thing. as much as i understand people's frustration, she brought so much to the season and it felt like that went unappreciated at the end.
just in general, thank you for giving all the queens their due credit. i wish the depth of talent on this season could have been appreciated more by the fandom. this season was incredible and we should all just feel lucky that we got to experience it. this probably all sounds real cheesy, but i can't help it, i miss this season so much already

Suggestion: What if the snatch game was actually judged and we didn't have the LalaPaRuza? How this would change the second half of the season
Probably not too much. I think Jasmine would’ve still gone home. I unfortunately think it would be her vs Willow and you know they weren’t getting rid of Willow. The song probably would’ve even been changed like they did for Detox vs Jinx just to make sure. I honestly think the Snatch Game situation was handled very well!

Wrt the Ball episode, I really feel like it was a missed opportunity to have the judging accommodate the fact that there was two separate sets of categories and therefore should've had two winners. For each group they could've done:
A winner, a high queen, 3 safe queens, a low queen, & a bttm queen

Daya definitely should had won the rumix I can’t even lie💀 I got BUTTERFLIES when Daya was crawling along the runway.
Daya literally had the best verse and rumix outfit of them, second best choreo (I cannot get the pan down on Camden laying on the catwalk out of my head), and her gown screamed soft fashion while still being a bit more edgy, akin to her drag style.
Also, if we're being HONEST, if production treated Daya better, her performance could have merited a Top 2 between her and Willow in the finale. A good vs evil final lipsync for the crown would've been AMAZING.

As someone who watched this season from start to finish, It was clear as day that Jorgeous had "Plot Armour", Meaning she could give a cringy performance and not meet the runway brief and still be okay for the most part. Alyssa Hunter was basically set up to fail and Maddy did well in the acting challenges and yet they cut it out of the final product.
as a maddy fan, i'm so sad to see how much she was cut in the season. she honestly had the chops to go all the way to the top 5. if she learns how to design looks (because she knows how to sew), she could be a real threat in all stars. although, she will probably get the serena edit.
Your point about Telephone is really good. Having that song be the final song of the Lalaparuza would be an epic finish, but it'd be signing Bosco's death certificate to have her do that song versus Jasmine.
Bosco had been so funny the entire season I was immediately sussed out when she was getting edited badly and no laughs.
Leave it to WoW to make Maddy the robbed queen of the season lmao. To be fair there was no way she would be given the win, she probably knew that herself too going in. I think she has a good chance to go to All Stars but she'll likely be chosen as an early boot.
The finale solo acts were such a nice return, but I bet it was a last minute decision since they blatantly kept pushing for Jorgeous to make the end but her safe performances just couldn't keep up with the stellar top 5
i’ve always found it interesting how they eliminate queens one or two episodes before a challenge they would excel at so the production fav can be edited to shine

I'm glad you brought up them cutting Maddy out of the super teaser final video. I thought she was gonna be in the top that episode and then she was barely in the final video I was so mad.
On the whole this is my favourite drag race season since UK2 though. Really strong cast and I loved them all. I wasn't even that bothered by all the non elims

I really believe that Deja should have won the Dragcon because as the moderator she really nailed it. Plus her shoulder pad looks was probably a top for the whole season!

Honestly, I thought I was the only one who felt like Alyssa and Maddy were kinda underutilized on the season. I also think Jorgeous stayed around a bit too long, and I'm wondering how different things would have been had Kornbread stayed...

I want Maddy to come back to all stars more than any other queen. Her drag is already so much more polished… imagine her power in a few years

But I like her (not a stan, but I like her). Some reasons why:
• Although she has an elegant aesthetic most of the time, she has shown that she can deliver other types of looks too (like her Freddie Mercury look).
• She’s unexpectedly funny.
• She’s very sweet.
I personally think that the bottom 7 for snatch game was totally justified, but it also could’ve just been a bottom two cause to me Jasmine and jorgeous were the obvious worst two

I am glad you talked about how Daya's arc of looking too similar to Crystal Methyd was complete bullshit. They can look similar in make up but they are very distinct in style and performance.
I find it very weird how they did a top 2 lipsync for Daytona winds, when it was very obvious that Deja & Angeria were the bottom 2. They both seemed surprised when they were called safe during the episode
I completely agree. I think they didn’t want to risk losing Angeria (which probably wouldn’t have happened anyway), but idk
Honestly I argue that the bottom 2 would have been DeJa and Kerri, while Angeria didn't do fantastic, Kerri's runway look was terrible and up to that point Angie had the best track record by far so they would have easily pulled the "we're giving you a chance"

IMO, the telephone lip-sync on episode 14 was meant to be for willow vs Kornbread. It seemed another gag where two fan faves lip-sync right before the finale (season 11 it was Brooke vs Vanjie). They also definitely wanted to have the friendship storyline building up to it, which would have made so much more sense between willow and kornbread (they talked about it so much in the beginning of the season) . I feel like Willows friendship with Angeria was brought up out of nowhere, and they just needed to force that storyline that was originally for kornbread

I really hoped Maddy would've gone further in the competition. She was underestimated from day one just because she's the straight queen. While she didn't serve the best looks, she ALWAYS delivered in the acting challenges.

Yeah I’ve seen a lot of people on the show who do okay looks but still make it far, especially if they did good in the challenges and I feel like maddy djd do good in a lot of challenges
I completely agree with you when u said it was pretty obvious who the top were gonna be. Bosco especially. It made me really annoyed with Bosco and it wasnt her fault. I really wish I could've seen more of Maddy. Also i agree with u too about how annoying it was for daya to be compared to crystal. Willow never got shit for being weird like Yvie ... It just didnt seem fair especially when crystal and daya arent even that similar.
To me Willow and Yvie don't look anything alike aesthetically. However, in the first few episodes Daya did look almost like a carbon-copy of Crystal, then she started to show runways that were more rock/punk-inspired and that set her apart from Crystal.

The fact Alyssa was in the bottom for the Jlo challenge still doesn't make any sense. She was the only one who actually elevated a Jlo look.

Alexis Mateo and Yara Sofia are some of the biggest names to come off the show. I just wish they wouldn’t use the language barrier as a source of jokes sometimes. It gets a little cringe to watch. Alyssa was the first Puerto Rican queen we’ve had since season 9. She had amazing looks, and had the personality for the show. I love all the queens this season, but it would’ve been fun to see her go further.

I truly feel alone in stanning Orion. Her talent show honestly made me ugly cackle, imo, I would’ve given her the win. I love someone who’s not afraid to get messy. And she’s TOO BEAUTIFUL. I wish more people got her humor and style.

I agree with 99% of this video but I think with the comment about Angeria losing steam it's also important to acknowledge production's role in that. As you said, many episodes could have justifiably had several queens who were safe in the top. For example, with the drag con panels, Angeria gave a top-tier performance. Even for Moulin Ru, Angie could have been in the top over Willow, who struggled a bit keeping up with the choreo and had a very questionable runway, whereas Angie was "on" the whole performance and was serving even in the background with Daya.
I also think it should be mentioned (even though the queens weren't critiqued on it) the costumes in the Catwalk episode. Clearly the people who made the outfits had a thing for Camden and Daya.
when i first watched the catwalk episode, i, too, was confused as to why willow was in the bottom. but after listening to the song many times (to the point that i have every verse memorized), i’ve convinced myself that the placements were based on how well the verses fit the whole “runway/model” theme of the song.
cam/daya/even bosco all had verses that fit that theme. although i do think that daya should’ve won (she had the best verse, best look that was designed (although i do think they did bosco dirty with hers), and her runway were literally some of my favorites ever) even spoilers had her winning this episode.
angeria and willow, although i really like both of their verses now, didn’t fit the theme of the song.
this could be a reach, but it’s what i’m using to justify the bottom placements.

I absolutely adore this cast and the representation we got this season was truly great (it's just a pity drag race has a reputation of getting rid of queens whose english isn't as good). Can't wait to see them all again on all stars!
It's an English show with a lot of acting. It's kind of like with UK vs. the World a lot of foreign franchises can't compete because they don't have representatives that have a mastery of English to level required for acting and comedy.

I know it doesn’t have much to do with Riggory persay, but the chocolate bar twist, and the return of Orion/Daya, would’ve been recieved a bit better if they WEREN’T given a chocolate bar upon their return. It would be like a “you already got your chance” kinda thing, and then instead of looking like a waste of time, it could create an interesting dynamic of the eliminated queens not having the chance at a safety net, stuff like that
What bothered me the most about Alyssa’s bottom placement is that they read her for “doing too much” yet kept Kornbread safe for the same critiques.
Honestly, I think Daya should have been high as opposed to Alyssa. Her final look she made was the best of the night.
Only knock tho is it didn’t read bridal whatsoever imo

Im just sad that ppl tend to downplay the greatness of the season just bc of the twists and turns aka so-called filler episodes, which i think isnt true lol. The shenanigans doesnt mean the queens arent fucking amazing talented showstopping artists that deserve nothing but love and appreciation
Idk where else to put this I haven’t seen anyone else say it but I knew Bosco had the golden bar. The reason being, when it was the lip sync between her and Jasmine, the bosco came back in and there were two cocktails on the table. Meaning, they were ready in case bosco lost there and then and the two queens would return together and both have a cocktail. but bosco won and the other cocktail wasn’t used.
I appreciate these videos. As I slowly lose interest in drag race, these videos keep me on board. It breaks down all the bs and the best moments while the detective tries his best to keep it free of bias. I often find myself more excited for theses videos than I am the finales of the show itself.
I haven’t been able to watch a full episode of RPDR in years and don’t use social media aside from CZcams lol, videos like this are my saving grace 💜 There is so much to keep track of!!

idk if this is an unpopular opinion but daya betty should have won the ball. firstly i thought her bridal look was the best and also it would’ve been a great storyline to have the eliminated queen win the challenge after being brought back

Exactly. I think Drag Detective sometimes let his own personal preferences get in the way of his judgment. He was clearly team Willow (ok I was too hahha). Bosco, Camden and Willow were clearly the Top 3 queens and they were equally favored by the producers.
