      @@Jon1LAW That explains it. Thats a good comparison. I remember when Jokic and Giannis were getting ejected for petty reasons at the beginning of the season. It was so obvious what the refs were doing.

      I really doubt that on the players part, referees idk. Most NBA Players are making far too much money to risk gambling, you think the NBA is gonna protect a player before the league itself?

      @marckusduverger9776 not that they are gambling but in on some of the fix. There's too much evidence of it. Even throwing games for draft position happens so why couldn't it for money? Also have you heard when college qbs have been approached for millions to throw games. This shits been going on for decades. It's just easier now than ever to accomplish. The integrity of sport is no more.

      @johnnyb1030: I can’t really argue against that, mostly because it would come down to intention & how can anyone speak to that. The NBA season is long & teams have been known to tank for better draft picks, which seems to have mostly been fixed by the Play-In. So you’re not wrong that it could happen, I guess I’m just not that cynical but who knows.

      The worst part is that he told "a known gambler" he wasnt going to play a game and the guy bet 80K to win 1.1 million. This was the red flag that did him in. How did they think that no one would notice these insane bets.

    Gambling has always been a problem, but the rise of legalized sports gambling combined with encrypted communications is going to make it MUCH worse. There is just so much more money involved and it is easier to communicate in secret. I think this will be the death of sports; I just don't know when.

    A few top ⚽️ players in Italy and England got popped recently for gambling, some had 200+ violations, 3 were critical for their teams … but none of them bet on their *own* games nevermind *against* themselves. All had to serve less than 1 year bans and some had legitimate addiction problems. If Porter was addicted, that doesn’t absolve him at all. There are other sports.

    Problem with the boxer betting on themselves to win is that they can offer their opponent a share of the winnings to lose. It is less direct than betting on yourself to lose, but there is still an incentive to fix the outcome. Best to fight for the prize.

    This guy’s lifetime ban is well deserved. Pete Rose’s lifetime ban is not. He deserves to be in the National Baseball HOF as a player since all the betting stuff happened after his playing days were pretty much over. He was the manager of the Reds when all that went down.     Let’s be realistic here. Most if not all players are betting or have bet. What separates this is him betting on his own team. To lose.

    But Pat why is this so bad? These sport books ruin thousands of lives all the time.
    A Sportsbook can have insider information.. see the public on one side and clean house when Lebron or Giannis is mysteriously ruled out. We see if happen all the time. No analyst calls out the nba or sports book for roster manipulation.
    It’s only when they get screwed then it’s a big issue

      And sometimes a player won’t even be on the injury list and still ruled out. Vegas will always have this information before the public which is unfair

      I’ve lost just as much as Jontay has won. So I hope for him this was worth it because for me it sure wasn’t. I’ve been up as much as he was at one point and I lost it all and then some so I see it both sides here. Nothing good comes from sports books but it’s not gonna go away

      Very unlikely, if someone puts the integrity of the sport at risk they will most certainly levy the highest punishment. The double standard argument doesnt apply in this circumstance

In a desperate move for more revenue the league also set up a trash tournament allowing teams as bad as 30 games below .500 a second chance to get into the playoffs.

There has yet to be a single player that significantly impacts the league if they go away; not Mahomes, not Bron, not Ohtani, all of those fans are still going to keep watching those sports.
