There are a lit if kitchen gadgets out there. Some are great and some. Not so much. But if you've a handicap then some are very important.
The one i balked at getting but got anyways was my big mandolin.
I wnd up using it for food prep at least once or twice a month and more during harvest season. But buy cut proof gloves. Bloody thing bites hard and i still don't have a lot of feelings in one fingertip

Is it worth it? I suppose it depends on how much you paid for it and how long you’re going to use it before it ends up in the appliance graveyard along with the other gadgets that are too much of a hassle to bring out when you’re super hungry and just want to make a sandwich. LoL Sarcasm aside, I suppose if you consistently slice up the entire loaf of bread or a couple of them at a time to be stored away for later it’s definitely worth it. 👍🏼😊🍞

I have this slicer, ALWAYS make sure to clean out the crumbs, because the homemade bread we put in that slicer would CRUMBLE HARD.
Stiffer breads also work best in this thing, softer bread gets squished and compressed when you go to slice it.
So in my experience, it sorta works, sorta doesn’t.

  • @universallyunique

I've never had one but I DO know the struggle of slicing fresh bread. For even slices, sure, it seems like a good purchase. Or if you have a ruler, put it on top of your bread, score the bread evenly using the ruler, then slice at your score marks. That could work too.

A bargain type grocery store also sells whole deli meats at really good prices and we often buy and slice them now for our whole family. One big deli ham or turkey will be only like $10 and it will feed all 4 of oyr family groups. My son and his wife, my daughter and her hubs and 3 kiddos, me and my hubby and my mom as she doesnt buy a lot of sliced meats.

If I baked bread at home (I'm good at baking, I just lack the storage space in freezer and only have a hand mixer at home that can't handle a large dough, so I buy bread) or bought bakery bread more often (I tend to buy sliced bread for convenience and it staying fresh for longer without freezing) then I'd definitely look into a device like this to slice bread more evenly. I think it could also help my hands as I have very hypermobile joints that bend the wrong way very easily (I have hEDS, a genetic connective tissue disorder)
Kinda wish the pillars were higher though so you don't have to line up the knife with the slits but instead have the pillars reach above the bread so you don't have to try to line up the knife with the slits even if you have a slightly taller loaf of bread to slice

I've seen multiple people do videos on this specific bread slicer before that all found it chipping and splintering almost as soon as they got it, which would make it unbelievably dangerous since you could end up with freaking wood splinters in your bread.
I'd much rather just work to get better better at slicing bread freehand, or try to find one made out of a material that's not going to splinter, like a strong plastic, personally.

If you want to know how it works, heres how: There‘s a round, spinning blade that is cuttig the bread. You press the bread against the blade and the slice falls onto a tray. To make sure every slice has the same width there‘s metal plate stopping the bread to slide to far. You can regulate the width by adjusting the metal blade.

Still uneven - especially noticeable in the thinner slice (near the bottom) just practice & you’ll get better 👍

First tip is dont use a bread knife. Its ok for baguettes and other breads with a really crispy crust. But it just tears normal bread apart. Use a very sharp straight edge knife and you will get much better slices.

Everyone uses a bread knife. But I can cut almost seamlessly with my yanagiba. It’s all in the angle or the sharpness of your knife.

It’s worth for you since you got results you wouldn’t have otherwise. For rest of us that don’t bake home made bread, no.

I bought this and works but soon realised if you dont have a decent knofe it still doesnt slice great. As soon as i got a new VERY sharpnbread knife this slicer is a gane chnager.
