At 0:44 "Never has a conference kicked out a school". That's not true. In 2001 the Big East Conference kicked out Temple for poor performance and lacking attendance.
Temple was not a full member of the Big East.
I was referring to the current Power conference structure.
@@MarkRogersVOCFB Fair enough, I accept that. But there is president for conferences dumping unproductive members.
@@MarkRogersVOCFB ‘Never’ has a conference kicked out a school. But uhh only currently in the past 5 years when power conferences are adding members
Tradition isn't worth a darn. Just ask the Pac-12.
Rutgers has the largest fan base in The NYC market and not those schools you mentioned.
Exhibit A: czcams.com/video/NwqiEgyL0PQ/video.html
@@dantesinfernopurgatory7826 We only had to go back 18 years to find a relevant Rutgers game.
@@MarkRogersVOCFB The point being - win and they will come. Winning enough to be one of the top 4 schools may be a stretch, but winning enough to be in the top half of the conference is certainly within the realm of possibility. The improved recruiting will definitely help.
Nobody gives a shit about Rutgers in New York City
All has- been Syracuse fan...enjoy your future in obscurity in the MAC....and under 50 ft of snow🤣🤣🤣.@rickker20
Rutgers would never be let go. Horrible take.
Why not? It's not about cable deals anymore, which is the only reason Rutgers is in the B1G.
@@stephenlang7870 Rutgers currently has the #15 2025 recruiting class in the 247 composite rankings and #13 in Rivals.. At the rate they're recruiting they'll wind up in the top half of the Big Ten sooner rather than later.
@@dantesinfernopurgatory7826 Let me know when that actually happens.
@@MarkRogersVOCFB I see you're a young-un of the instant gratification era. Remember this - in life, nothing lasts forever.
@@dantesinfernopurgatory7826 There is forever, then there is a lifetime which might as well be forever. Rutgers has been bad or at least insignificant forever.
Everybody thinks that Notre Dame is going to either join the SEC or the Big Ten but steps are in place Notre Dame is going to create the first division one academic conference and if they do kick out these academic schools out of the big conferences, Notre Dame is going to do what they did with Stanford and Cal they’re going to step in and say hey come over here play with us
SMU is so irrelevant that when people talk about realignment, most people don't even mention them joining the ACC
Big East kicked out Temple University in 2004
Good point. I was reviewing current Power 5, but absolutely.
The old Big East famously had a football faction and a non-football faction. Villanova (non-football faction) didn't want Temple in the conference at all. Temple was added as a football only member as a compromise. After Miami, VT, and Boston College left the Big East, and the football faction was weakened as a voting bloc, Villanova had their chance to rid themselves of Temple. Plus, it didn't help Temple's cause that they were football only members who sucked at football.
I don't think teams will get kicked out, I think the big guys will leave and make their own conference.
The way to first address it might not be to simply expel schools, but to offer them proportional revenues based on contribution under some formula. Some may "self-expel". Others that remain at least will be less of a drain on the $ pools.
What happens when the Phoenix dies it’s reborn from the ashes to live again
What does “Kicked Off” mean? If OSU has a 7-6 season they’re out? Teams are kicked out just for football but can remain for other sports? How do you get back in? If Illinois gets kicked out then has a 10-2 season like they did in 1989, they automatically get back in? Will other sports be able to kick teams out?
Temple was kicked out of the Big East
Kicked specifically for not caring about Football.
I came here to say that.
@@rodneyfields4081- Which was a pretty big problem, considering that Temple was a football only member of the Big East.
Temple doesn't have a home stadium.
One (or more) of these teams will make Mark eat his words.
I’m pretty sure that’s what he’s rooting for
@@hootsmanvideos7862 There ya go.
Eat my words about?
No Mississippi St and no titles and with a losing record or Kentucky with a .500 record and the same attendance average as Indianba and Illinois.
More SEC worshipping.
Take top half of the Big 12 and ACC and combine them and make a new conference
Would love to see a private school conference D1 level like the Ivy League
If the Big Ten/SEC/Big 12/ACC do kick out teams, then people/fans are going to be furious. People were already mad about Oregon St and Washington St and those teams don't have a lot of fans. Money is sadly driving everything, but this would be a poor decision. A team like Indiana is so ingrained in the Big Ten that it would be insane for them to not be in the league. Hopefully none of this happens, but with the way things are going, it is probably inevitable. Great video, Mark!!!
temple was kicked outta big east
Rutgers isnt just a big market school- they have a huge alumni base and an enrollment bigger than OSU.
Eventually- like the Detroit Lions- they will win.
Nobody is the 100% true answer. But talking make-believe is fun.
The power conference's aren't kicking out anybody. Their could be relegation within however. These conferences didn't build up just to sear it down. This is click bait at best.
Should also add Purdue and Maryland to this list
Stanford & cal cutting block don’t fill stadium pass five years
How do you see Kentucky stacking up in this possible realignment?
KY is the face of SEC basketball with no other consistent enough to come close.
Northwestern, Rutgers, Indiana, Illinois, Gone. Vandy, Miss St, Gone. Wake, Duke, Boston College, Syracuse, Cal, SMU, Gone. Baylor, Cincinnati, Gone.
There has only been one school kicked out of the power 4. In 1907, Michigan was voted out of the conference for refusing to adhere to league rules limiting football teams to no more than five games and players to three years of eligibility. That was until they returned in 1916.
However if we are listing programs who could be kicked from the P4, I think Cal could potentially be on that chopping block.
No one’s getting kicked out
Who knows the way all of this has been going ? It is not even over seems like it will keep on going in one form or another . I guess we really might not know for a while . I am just watching the madness from year to year and see what transpires .
The one saving grace of the old BCS system was that the FBS schools who had a seat at the table actually outnumbered the schools who didn't. There are already more have-nots than haves in the current system, and I hate the idea of srinking the number of haves even more.
Mark, good analysis. Whenever you don't have to talk about OSU or michigan, your analysis is outstanding. Again good job.
Thanks man. Yeah, I know nothing about Ohio State and Michigan .
Vanderbilt in the SEC is basically what Tulane would have been if they stayed in the SEC. The SEC would have had two powerhouses in academics / doormats in athletics instead of one.
I like houston, their basketball, and uniforms
Iu fan here
What About GATech?
If Pitt is being thrown out there Miami is in the same breath, just not as long of a downturn.
TV numbers aren’t comparable.
@@MarkRogersVOCFB Fair enough. Who in the Power 5 is comparable with Miami? Where do they rank? Are they on the fringes of this discussion?
Who gets kicked out? In demand teams jump ship. That is the analysis that should be done.
Remember, in the BIG they think about academics. Purdue and Northwestern will never be kicked out.
The crown jewel of B1G membership isn't athletics or media rights - it's the Big Ten Academic Alliance which makes athletic and media rights look like pocket change. Academics/research keep the lights on at universities. No academics/research, no universities. No universities, no college football. Simple as. These sports-centric individuals are always chasing the shiny apple in the room like a cat chases a light.
@@dantesinfernopurgatory7826 If the BTAA were that lucrative, it would have been replicated elsewhere. The word is that STANFORD refused a B1G invite because academic resources had to be shared.
Not sure how you leave Purdue off the list
Purdue’s history is far superior to Indiana and Rutgers. Illinois in the same category, but Purdue’s success is more recent. Attendance favors Purdue about 5K-7K per game.
You forgot BYU. They're ass.
12:44 I want the teams that can go to the ivy league on this list to go there.
Ivy League doesn't accept new members.
@@johne4798 Why?
@@Mike-sp7zv I don't believe there has been a change in the ivy league since it was formed in the 1950s and all of the members are private, prestigious, northeastern, colonial era colleges. Ivy League schools do not offer athletic scholarships either.
@@johne4798 Maybe some of the Ivy league applicants could change to fit that and agree not to offer athletic scholarships
@@Mike-sp7zv ivy league likes being Elite academically. Athletics are secondary. They voluntarily choose not to even participate in the FCS football playoffs.
Give me Baylor and TCU in the B10 to add the texas market.
That would just dilute the conference more and put the B1G further behind the SEC. We don’t need 4 Texas teams in the power 2. I’d like to see some representation from other states. If the B1G really wants into Texas then they should go after A&M
@@jacsbein A&M can knock if they want. They'd be accepted. A&M hasn't knocked though. I like the rivalry between TCU and Baylor and they have been trending up the past 20 years with one winning a playoff over the b10 champ in the four team playoff. Both made runs for the playoffs in 2014. Give them B10 money and they'll thrive. TCU was a group of 5 relatively not that long ago. They're both better than rutgers.
Also of you really wanted A&M, adding TCU and Baylor would help A&M have regional partners
Tcu cannot fill their own stadium
@@adamcz3183 if they keep having year like they have for the past 20 years they will. TCU wasn't always in the Big12
@@Mike-sp7zv TCU and Baylor are small private schools. The majority of B1G schools (with the exception of Northwestern) consist of flagship state research universities.
Northwestern will feel better in the B10 when ND joins.
No, 40 years ago was K-State before Bill Snyder. No program has ever been as bad as K-State pre Bill Snyder. Ever. Northwestern came close, but, no.
40 years ago was 1984. Take NW vs K-State in 1984 and compare the previous five seasons. K-State 17-37. NW 7-46.
Pitt is straight ass, good call with that one. The B12 fans seem to really want them for some reason though. Rutgers is far too valuable of a brand. They belong at the big table. The Birthplace of College Football is one of the most iconic universities in the world. Over half of the teams in the B1G would be gone before Rutgers.
Pitt and WVU belong together. I want Pitt in the B12
Over half? Name them. You'd have to name ten teams.
It’s all speculation at this point. No one knows what criteria will be used next round. Can’t wait to hear the actual moves!
Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, UCLA, Wisconsin, Michigan State
What do any of those schools offer that is unique? Most of them are dying midwest brands that don't support football. Rutgers is in a thriving market that has football talent.
@@KeepChoppin Nebraska is a blue blood with a dedicated fanbase. Wisconsin is a consistent top 15-20 program that supports their football who will make multiple playoff appearances and would have if the playoff had expanded earlier. Michigan State has made the playoff and care both about football and basketball. UCLA is home of the rose bowl, the most traditional stadium in the B10 and all of college football. Are you trolling?
I don't get ILL being football uncompetitive. Very good flagship in a populated state. UNC's underachievement is also a mystery, but NC's population has more recently reached the level of those core B1G states.
Some harsh truths for delusional Tech and Iowa State fans
WAKE and DUKE are legacy ACC founders, so some slack is warranted. DUKE especially is a tentpole brand, the closest overall peer to STANFORD in the P4. Unfortunately, MIAMI demanded CUSE and BC, which also resulted in PITT/VATECH, and none of the 5 former BIGEAST has met reasonable expectations.
All of the Texas schools outside of TEXAS and TXAM are G5 equivalents or less. Being low academic #2s in smaller states doesn't help IOWAST and KSTATE.
UCF is still a #3 (at best) and only TXTECH made the original P5 cut and then only after political interference.
Texas A&m is no better than Texas Tech. They're just UT light with money. When they were in the Big 12 they were Texas Tech's whipping boy more than they were not.
@@adamcz3183 My source has TXAM right outside the upper right region. A near peer #2 in a huge state is far better than a #3.
Smu is traditionally a power team
Pre 1995.
@@MarkRogersVOCFB crazy they for the death penalty for doing what teams are now legally doing and have been doing under the table prior to the ruling.
