- This firechief car was quite the under taking, not because of its condition and any difficulties associated with restoring it, but because the donor had given me a challenge to include a blue flashing light on the roof in the final reveal.

Everyone upvote this so that Marty will challenge me to a matchbox showdown!!
I'd love to see two pros face-off on a resto, sure the results for both would be crazy cool!
Always got pick fights, Jimmy? 😆
Marty will win, man
Good idea matching the colour before stripping the model. In fact all your ideas for the restorations, replacing parts like the axles etc are brilliant. You always do a fantastic job of restoring these vintage models. ..
I'm trapped at home due to it snowing outside. To have a Marty video made my evening much better!
I watch these before bed. So therapeutic
Nice job Marty! I had a 66 Ford Galaxie 500 two years out of high school back in 1975. I bought the car from a high school kid who made some modifications. He added mag tires used back then, dual thrust hush exhaust and did the car in blue metal flake paint. Oh and jacked up just a little in the back . That car was the bomb! We went everywhere in it. Those were the days.
Nice job Marty!
I bought one at the local drug store that carried Matchbox cars. I still have it. And 60 or so others. Like a lot of people, I wish I would have kept the boxes. I do have a few. But when you're 9 years old, who cared about the box ? I also have several engines and other emergency vehicles. I went on to a 20 year career with the Fire Dept. and retired as Captain. Peace to all of you and yours out there from America, and THANK YOU MARTY for the great videos. :)
when i was a kid (40 years ago) I was dropping off some garbage with mum at the local tip and someone had thrown out about 300 empty matchboxes. I should have grabbed them. i DID go through them and found one that was not empty (forklift).
Check ebay there are some reasonably priced repro boxes there
I love to watch your restoration work. You gives new life to dead toys. Thanks for making beautiful videos.
I always look forward to your videos especially seeing what you've lined your spray booth with this week. Always good for a chuckle.
Another great video Marty, glad to see that your boomerang injury is healing. Hope you and your lovely bride enjoy your holiday.
The "headlines" in the spray booth are now an icon of your show.
Hey Marty - Great job as always! That little lump on the grill is actually a nice detail that matches the original car's grill: It's a small Galaxy logo that has what looks like a crown on top.
Agreed
Love the headline "World's Laziest Slob Lies in Bed for 56 Years!" That's journalism! I've been enjoying your videos.
The choice of which ancient newspaper is in your spray booth is always an exciting discovery.
I had the 2 door version of this for real. Loved cruising around in that car. Thanks for bringing back the memories. The "bump" on the driver's side of the grill is the factory emblem you'd see on the real Galaxie 500 XL cars. That's a really nicely detailed die-cast car.
top job yet again Marty love the flashing blue light ...enjoy your break and we will stay tuned for when you return
Thank you so much for some many entertaining restoration videos. Have a great vacation!
The "casting mark" on the grill is actually a badge emblem on Ford Galaxies. Depending on which model car it was they were different.
Didn't they say "500" on the Galaxie 500's?
Emblem on the grill & note the stars on the tail lights. Nice details. And another beauty restored.🚓
I just add a thumbs up without even watching the video first! Why is this so therapeutic? Thanks, as always.
Always appreciate it, Thanks very much chris!
its crazy, ive been having a crappy day so far in between school and work. i finally have time to have a smoke and watch MMM, as soon as it started i felt more relaxed than ever. thanks for that Marty.
Well done Marty, another timeless classic youtube video.. loving you just slowing the pace and describing all the little details, they really hold our attention..
Automatic upvote as you are restoring my childhood!
Thanks for another great video Marty. Hope you and yours have a great holiday. Relax and have fun.
Happy to see new video on my arrival! Thank you!
I grew up with Matchbox cars and these videos are so addicting. Love watching you work. Your results are excellent. Your little story lines are quite entertaining. Cheers from America!
I tuoi video sono sempre eccezionali e con tutti i consigli sui prodotti che usi e i tuoi "segreti" ci dai la possibilità di poter metter in pretica sempre meglio questa grande arte del restauro.
Grazie infinite.
Oh the nostalgia! Me mum had a 1968 Galaxie 500. I was the first car I remember riding in. It had more of a fastback than the '66 but was very similar. This grabs me by the feels.
That's some good nyborg.
I just love how thorough you are, paint wise and all the info on the particular model your working on so informative also glad to see you using taymia paints. You sir have a wonderful day.love your videos.
Theres a lot of stuff to cram into each video, sometimes I wish i could squeeze in a little more. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Nice job Marty. Great restoration and video. Being a firefighter here in the US I especially like this one.Had this model when I was a kid. Thanks, as always, excellent!
Awesome. I dug through my mom's closet and found my old matchbox and found a couple of projects. I love these videos
!
Amen, another therapy calm session! Thanks Marty! Enjoy your holiday!
I'm glad you enjoy it Russell, I really do appreciate everyones support.
Excellent result. The paint colour and gloss is superb. Good idea for repainting the base: looks new again.
Have a good vacation Marty looking forward to seeing the new video!
As always love the videos Marty and look forward to the next. Enjoy your holiday and have a great time away wherever you may go. See you back for your unboxing soon
Just caught your video..great job as always, the flashing blue light was an amazing touch! Enjoy your vacation and will be watching for your next video..
These are just brilliant videos! It is almost as captivating to watch what clever working methods you have come up with as it is to see how the restoration turns out to be.
I just discovered this channel I'm 49 years old and for some reason I find watching you restore these toy cars not only interesting but very relaxing as well
And half a bottle of whisky later, a fully restored Matchbox car! Magic.
That's a nice job Marty Nice to see clever ways around problems....
Great restoration as expected. I have a few of these castings I should attempt
You completely nailed that red ! Great work Marty, thanks for posting !
Nicely done Marty. Have a safe trip!
Looka thaaaat!! Gorgeous job, Marty!
Nice job with this one, I like that paint on the base, really looks good.
Another great restoration. Enjoy your holiday!
I saw Time Rider's challenge, so it's great to see the result. Love the Galaxy 500 as a vehicle, so this is a great one for me to watch. Also, the first time I have seen plastic window glass repair.
Thank you!😎
Great job Marty! Love the ending bringing back the pumper!
Another excellent restoration! You really matched the color to the original perfectly. I cannot tell the difference between the two. The piece of metal on the grill is the Galaxy emblem which was a star. I hope this helps and thanks for posting this tutorial.
One little tip for you mate. When replacing parts that are an awkward shape like the ¼ window and roof was, use a thin, but stiff cardboard to do the outline, even drawing it on the cardboard, rather than trying to cut it. Once you have the shape perfect, you can transfer the shape to the plastic, and cut the shape from the template you just made, and it will be a perfect fit. It's a lot easier to make this way. Also, when darkening red in the future, use a brown instead of a black, and it will tone in mutch better, without altering the hue as much. Adding black should always be reserved for darkening white only. If you want to darken a colour, you should always look on the opposite side of a colour wheel, and add that. To change the tone if a colour, add one of its pyramid colours e.g. imagine the colour you are using is the top of a pyramid, and the two colours at the bottom points are it's light and dark hues. To change the hue, add whatever colour is next to it on a colour wheel. You can get colour wheels anywhere for a couple of bucks. Just a little mess with a cheap watercolour set from the $1 store and it becomes self explanatory. Hope this helps mate.
This comment takes me back to art class in grammar school, and my lusciously sweet and attractive teacher Miss Connors.
Great Resto Marty just got a couple of these myself and I hope they turn out as good as yours when I get around to them. Light looked awesome and clever concealment.
My dad has one of these! I really should give it a try at restoring it. Awesome restore and gives me some ideas!
I use a metal brush in my dremel to clean up the base. Does a great job. Great job!
Τhanks for sharing with us another one good project of restoration!
Absolutely brilliant job. Great work! I like your camera mount setup. True inspiration to us all.
Thank you Marty for sharing you brilliant videos, Very enjoyable so much so I have taken the plunge and done my first restoration.
Fantastic Andy!
Fabulous restoration Marty! I have that same fire chief so now know how to restore it myself... You da Boss!
I knew you,d make it flash, thats a lovely restoration and custom job, you need to make the other fire chif car flash as well now!
Enjoy your holiday mate

Great job Marty, you have great time on vacation, oh I mean holiday!
Great job Marty. Have a great Vacation! 👍🏻👍🏻
Ever the perfectionist Marty. Cracking restoration there. Have a great holiday. Looking forward to seeing the unveiling of the 100. 👍
Thanks again for another great video! I am always waiting for the "I'm happy with that", and you held out on me until near the end! Wonderful job on the restoration.
Happy holidays, Marty & Mrs. Marty. Glad to see the hand is getting better mate.
As always, great work, Marty. Love the blinking light. Enjoy your holidays.
Nice restoration as usual Marty I wish you and your wife a magnificent vacation and we see you again soon on CZcams
Another awesome restoration, Marty! Always a pleasure, I'll miss your next one while on vacation but have a great time!
Thanks for another great video Marty. Enjoy your holiday!
I look forward to this every week now.
Marty....needless to say, this is on point as usual. One of my fav castings too. It is the first *custom* I ever made back in 1976. I used a pen knife to scratch the britework areas of paint.
My first car as luck would have it was a 1965 Galaxie 500. I paid $700 for it. I called her The Beast. 352 Windsor V8 with a Rochester 4 BBL carb.
That bump on the front grill was simply badging Lesney saw fit to include on the grill. Just a logo for the car.
Another fantastic restoration job, and another happy Matchbox car. :)
I like the paint you used on the base, looks great.
Turned out beautiful, as usual. Nice job on the windscreen repair.
Always enjoy watching your videos have a good vacation
Have a great break: you've inspired folk here to rebuild our heritage!
Hi Marty, great video as always. The “irregularity” on the front grill was a badge which had “500” cast in it and if my aging memory is correct it was painted red, white, and blue within the badge. My neighbors had this model car when I was a kid. Have a great holiday.
Awesome makeover, i love the additional lights. Fine job Marty.
The mark on the grill is the Ford Galaxie logo from the factory. You're right, it belongs there, and is a great piece of detail
Cool! Happy Saturday.....I like that! Have a great and safe vacation! 😃✌
Very nice good job the lights add a very touch.
Have a nice holliday Marty. Cheers mate.
Hi Marty, Again a nice video as always, Hope you have a good rest can't wait to the unboxing All the Best Brian 🤗
Awesome restoration and video, as always!!! 👏👏👏👏👏
Gonna miss the Saturday video, but I hope you have a fantastic time away! I have been waiting for that massive box of cars video... and I’m guessing that’s what’s coming soon. I wanted to mention what a great job you’ve been doing on your 3D printing and decal production lately. These aspects add dynamics to your video production, that I personally enjoy. Thanks for another Cool, fun adventure.
You guessed right, I tried to get a backlog of videos before I went away but these take more time than I always think they will.
I'm still trying to get the 3D printing right, All in time I suppose. Thanks very much for the comment.
Marty's Matchbox Makeovers You’re very welcome, Marty!
There's something about Ford Galaxies that intrigue me a lot!
I have 2 of these models to restore I was waiting for this video to see how it would come out. awesome work Marty
Excellent job as always - if your holiday brings you to the Philadelphia, PA area - I'll share some of my single malts with you. Have a tremendous holiday and have a scotch for me!
I enjoy your channel. It brings back memories of a time when I had dozens of these little cars as a small boy. The little story the end of your clips demonstrating your finished work is a charming touch. Correct me if I am mistaken but i am positive I have seen that same Ford Galaxie or Custom in the form of a yellow Taxi, White Police car and a plain sedan with nothing on the roof.
Enjoy your holidays, mate! Great video, very informative about your process and sure to help folks looking for tips to start their own makeovers & model refurbishing.
Superb job mate. She looks brand new
To straighten the plastic I like to fix the piece of plastic in a glass plate with magnets and then to immerse in hot water. The trick is to let the water cool slowly.
You have inspired me to restore my own Ford Galaxie fire chief's car
When I was a child in the 1960’s I would go with my aunt and uncle to the local toy store and get one matchbox car of my choice. It seems like yesterday when I picked out this fire chief car...
Lovely job as always. Enjoy your holiday.
I enjoyed that. Very satisfying to watch. Have a great holiday!
Those newspaper headlines are hysterical, lol.
My Dad had a 65’ Ford Galaxie. That little detail on the grill is a logo symbol. It shows the letters XL or LTD (depending on the trim level) within a “Ford Blue” background.
Thank you for the great video's and enjoy your holidays!
Enjoy your holiday and god speed your safe travels.
Great Job! Love your stories when your done the restoration. Have a great Holiday My Friend!
