- Hey people! We have a real treat for you today. This is a tutorial on how to create that popular "drawing-on-a-whiteboard" animation style, but without actually setting up a physical camera to record your hand drawing on a physical whiteboard. This technique is all digital, very flexible and pretty effortless using a combination of ScreenFlow, Photoshop and After Effects. The only thing that takes time using this technique is exporting. Enjoy!

I was greatly inspired by your video
This is great and easily explains what is to some a difficult subect. Well done !
Great tutorial and nice song by the way :)
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Two questions. How do you create animations where the hand picture changes (i.e. the fingers and pen adjust slightly during the animation...making it less static looking)? And second, how do you make an animation where it looks like one large whiteboard where the screen slides from animation to animation but it's all on one large canvas (does that make sense)?
Very nice. Thank you.
Thank you for your tutorial, the custom cursor idea was genius, too bad it will not apply if we want to animate in after effects, any idea to avoid manual tracking ? Thanks !
thank U very much~ I wanted to make white board animation but didn't have instruments which are needed to record~ this tutorial is very useful to me~
Great tutorial! One question, though: If Screenflow lets you change the cursor to a custom image, why not change it to the image of the hand (instead of the green target), and skip all the work you did in After Effects? Hope the question makes sense...
If you run Windows, use OBS to record. If you run Linux, use RecordMyDesktop to record. :-)
what is obs?
+Billy Lockway such a nice guy...
Thanks! This looks like a great shortcut, compared to some of the other
methods out there!
Good tutorial. Thanks for posting. One suggestion...instead of saying that if you are not using a MAC, this tutorial is not for you, you can just suggest that if you are using a PC, then you could use Camtasia Studio or any other screen recording software that is available. The outcome is the same and you would increase your audience.
Thanks for this tutorial...Always wanted to know how people made these sort of animations.
When you were in ScreenFlow and selected the green circle cursor, is there a reason why you couldn't have selected the hand as the cursor?
is anyone know any similar software to screenflow for PC. I want the cursor function that we can change it to png file or something
i am using the different way to create this.....but this is very niece.......
Great Video and nice voice thinks
Any suggestions if I am not a good free hand drawer in photoshop?
aswome effect it has that monthy phyton feel
You should animate the rotation of the hand slightly, perhaps with a wiggle expression to provide some randomness and make it appear more natural :)
If you wanted to follow this style of animation on a PC - pretty sure you could do the same using Camtasia. I wouldn't animate in this way but am sure camtasia would work the same way.
thanks for the video. i don't know why the tracker in ae always lost track.
For example, the featured video on this site has the hand hand in different positions during the animation: truscribe. com. Or this one that shows the canvas sliding around to give more room than the set height and width: speeddrawingvideo. com (skip to 25 seconds).
I have a query, I know how to animate text so that it looks like it has been handwritten, but how do you animate text so that each stroke is a different color?!?!?! I need too know for a project that I have to do, can anyone please help?
I need your hand, literally. Can you send me it?
nice technique, but it would take ages to complete 4 min project, tnx anyway for sharing.
Skie Right I'm good at drawing, I've done this with a camera and a tripod, edit and then accelerate the speed. It works wonders if you can draw. I don't know if that is the best way to do it, but it is faster and fun. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate this tutorial, it is a valid different approach.

How do we call this "illustrator that's drawing on a whiteboard"?
Great Video!! Is it possible for you to send me your hand?
hello friend can you send me the picture of that hand please? =)

unnecessary work
Is it normal to make this amount of disgusting mouth noises? Is it just me or does EVERY tutorial-maker do this??
next time don't sing

Exactly, looking for this particular comment before writing!!
