Noriko's character in Battle Royale is tied up with traditional Japanese gender roles and as such can not be compared to the final girls we see in western movies from the same era. Sally from from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a proto-final girl in that the archetype (and subsequently stereo-type) had not yet been established, in fact her behaviour in the movie is actually based more in reality, being strong enough to survive the abuse and do what is needed to stay alive until the opportunity for freedom arrives.
Alice Johnson has always been one of my favorite final girls ever. She's smart, resilient, pretty, tough and isn't afraid of going toe to toe with the Goat.
I love Alice. Lisa Wilcox is an absolute sweetheart, too. I don't think the writers get the point of a lot of these horror characters. Alice, for example, is criticized for being a blank at the start. That's the point. She's supposed to be a quiet mouse who gains strength as she loses her friends. It's the opposite of what would actually happen to someone who had all that death happening around her.
Deena in Fear Street is written pretty realistically in the first movie. And, point of order, she never forces Sam to come out, but correctly indicates that Sam was eager to leave Shadyside and play straight in Sunnyvale. Also, the car accident was not caused deliberately.
All good points. I've argued that last point on many occasions. I don't think I'll ever understand how people think it was on purpose. It's like they saw her nosebleed but somehow missed where she inadvertently let go to wipe it. How?
Yeah i am sick of the Deena slander. She is a lesbian teen in a time being a lesbian is not very welcoming, and living in a town where people keep getting butchered, her girlfriend ditched her for a jock, and on top of all that, she is now being chased by undead killers. Of course she gonna act irrationally.
This kind of seems to misunderstand the Final Girl trope a little, maybe? Sally is not, IMO, an "annoying" Final Girl: she endures unimaginable horror and trauma and manages to get out of it alive--whether or not her escape is a series of chance events has nothing to do with whether or not she "deserves" to. Whereas Elena? *Not* a Final Girl. She was more of an *antagonist* than a "survivor."
I know there was some other video where they said something about Fear Street that seemed super off to me. I can't help but think like one writer has a hate-on for it that defies what was actually on screen.
My favorite character in "Nightmare On Elm Street: Dream Master" was Alice. I loved the way she kicked and hit the crap out of Freddy! 😂 And the best jump scare, that still gets me every time I see it... when Freddy jumps up behind her and says, "You think you got what it takes.." I know it's coming but it still gets me every time. I've seen the movie more times than I can count, AND the way Freddy says, "You think you got what it takes.." gives me chills every time. It's awesome! 😂 The NOES series are my favorite horror movies.
That part always gets me too. And Alice is a great final girl. Idk what they're talking about here. She was criticized for "being a blank," at the start then gaining "character," from her friends as they die, but that's the point. I don't find her annoying at all.
@nailsarelife I agree as well and don't understand why they feel that way about Alice when imo she ended up being one of the best rise to "final girl" regardless if it came as off handed to her. I get it, NOES 4 was messy with the way they handled the transition of the surviving trio from the previous film especially Kristen but Alice ended up being a good character to carry the franchise for two films imo
@@LT200913 They definitely did Kristen, Kincaid and Joey all wrong. I like Alice, though. If any NoES final girls or boys belong on this list, it's not her. Maybe Maggie or Lori. Even the remake Nancy. But not Alice. Not in my opinion.

My problem with I Know What You Did Last Summer was with the marketing. The TV ads showed them accidentally killing someone and tossing him away, and then someone saying they knew about it and threatening them via notes. WTF?!? the examples you give that make alice one of the worst are exactly the same things that laurie strode did in halloween; case in point, continuing to drop the weapon and failing to finish off the big baddy several times once the opportunity was there. and let me point out, at least alice finally picked up the machete and lopped off mrs. voorhees' head, whereas laurie strode just sat there, boo-hooing, while dr. loomis actually came in to save the day. i love your lists, and for the most part i am more often in agreement with you; however, this time i could not keep silent about your blatant contradiction. if alice made this list for the reasons you gave, then so too should laurie. i think halloween gets more credit than it deserves, and this is one example of that. that said, i still love both films, but it was friday the 13th, not halloween, that gave us the blueprint for slasher films to follow, tropes and all. both films contributed to this greatly, but halloween seems to get recognized far more than friday the 13th. so i am here to take a stand for my girl alice. you go girl. xo dd

i'm sorry, but i cannot stay silent any longer. you start off this segment with reflecting on some of the best final girls, even going so far as to name laurie strode (jamie lee curtis, halloween 1978) as one of the best. yet, in your list of the worst, you mention alice hardy (adrienne king, friday the 13th 1980) as one of the worst...?! WTF?!? the examples you give that make alice one of the worst are exactly the same things that laurie strode did in halloween; case in point, continuing to drop the weapon and failing to finish off the big baddy several times once the opportunity was there. and let me point out, at least alice finally picked up the machete and lopped off mrs. voorhees' head, whereas laurie strode just sat there, boo-hooing, while dr. loomis actually came in to save the day.
i love your lists, and for the most part i am more often in agreement with you; however, this time i could not keep silent about your blatant contradiction. if alice made this list for the reasons you gave, then so too should laurie. i think halloween gets more credit than it deserves, and this is one example of that. that said, i still love both films, but it was friday the 13th, not halloween, that gave us the blueprint for slasher films to follow, tropes and all. both films contributed to this greatly, but halloween seems to get recognized far more than friday the 13th. so i am here to take a stand for my girl alice. you go girl.

You could do this job better than the hired employees of the millionaire who owns this channel, who probably never watches it, and cares more about profit than quality.

Of course you now have to make a list about annoying final guys.
*Blind man didn't sexually assault anyone.* He did inseminate them against their will, but he's not actually a rapist.
Forced insemination is sexual assault.
Indeed he did and he is. The FBI itself defines rape as "penetration, no matter how slight, of the v or a with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim."
@@ApohMay I think they were being sarcastic, and mocking the dumb justifications this channel makes.
@@donnamurphy8551 I hope so.
This channel has some annoying final girls too.
