Great idea-I messed up one of my Japanese water stones with one of those regular honing guides-the little wheel dug a deep line into the stone. I flattened it again but lost a lot of surface. I’ll make one of these!!! Thank you Mistry!

    Hello!
First of all thanks for sharing this simple tool or zig for sharpening the chisel, I am very happy to see and feel proud too.
In one of the comments I read about the floating stone because of the water below the stone in the socket, may be a small hole in the cavity will drain the water and the stone will stay in place.
Any ways improvement is a constant process, cheers for your work.

I’ve sharpened mine for 30 years by eye, I do them for cabinet builders. I’ll include.....most sharpening systems we can buy are not accurate enough for fine wood work. This gives the user a template to adjust to the exact degree they need for stone and stropping the tool to a perfect finish. If I was to make a vid on sharpening by eye it’d take years and many damaged tools to achieve. Stick with this then adjust to your situation.

No it’s brilliant. I’ve made several of these jigs now to suit different degrees of sharpening different tools. It’s a life saver. I don’t have time to sharpen and strop/hone etc.

Love the work you did to make a simple and functional jig but the thing that caught my eye is the wood stock at the end of the video. Do you know what species of wood this is?
I have some in stock yet unidentified. When burned it actually lets off a rose fragrance but I do not think it is rose wood. It is very dense yet easy to carve. I believe my stock came from marine vessel. Its dimensions are 3×4.
    Hope to get your reply.

    Michael J Badger

Good idea. But at 4:39 when your flattening the back, the chisel is not flat to the stone. So any edge you had has been dulled slightly. Also the stone moved.

    アイディアは素晴らしいです。ただし刃物は45度とは限らないので、このままだと砥石と高さを調整しなくてはならないので、ジグの角度調整が出来るようにすれば商品化できそうですね。
