  • In this video I demonstrate how to unload a pneumatic speargun out of the water safety. You might need to do this if you accidentally load your speargun while oiling it or something.

    Hi paul. I have a mares mini sten 42. When I load it, I can actually remove the shaft while it's still loaded. Just a slight pull and it's out. Why doesn't it stay locked in till fired. ?. Please any help would be great thanks Paul. Iv seen all your videos and they are absolutely great. Regards frank.

      Hi Frank. Its ok if the spear comes out, but should never fall out. It sounds like the plastic end of the piston that the spear goes into might have a crack in it. Shine a light down there and see if that's the case. Those can be replaced if you find the part and are willing to take it apart. My other idea would be to make the end of the shaft slightly thicker so it sticks in better. Maybe a layer of epoxy or a couple of layers of zinc paint. Zinc paint is anti-corrosion and should stick to the metal.

    Hi Paul,
    I bought a pneumatic spear gun off Criagslist for cheap and the owner said that the spear gun had problems of randomly shooting off after it was oiled. Do you know what may have caused this and how I could fix it? Thank you for your time.

    • @PaulGarbettNZ
      @PaulGarbettNZ  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi. There is a little screw at the bottom of the trigger which you can adjust to change the sensitivity of the trigger. Have a look at that and tighten if needed. Also, you could let the air out, unscrew the nose and remove the piston. Check it is not damaged. You can order a new one of these online. If neither of those work, then it must be the actual internal trigger mechanism, in which case you would need to take apart completely. Let me know how you get on.

      Both are about equal. I would look for a vacuum gun. I think cressi saetta pro.

    Hi Paul, I have the exact same speargun, cressi sub sl with reducer. What I would like to know is what is the best way to release the pressure for storage? Also, was it 480 pumps for this gun to re-pressurize?

    • @PaulGarbettNZ
      @PaulGarbettNZ  Před 5 lety +2

      You don't need to reduce the pressure for storage. But if you want to, you just need to take the yellow cap off the back with a coin, and stick a paper clip into the ball-valve there. Its best to have the gun facing down for about an hour beforehand to drain the oil towards the front of the gun, because the pressure is strong and will shoot out some of the oil at you. The manual says 480 pumps for 18bar.

    How many stroke to fill the air pressure?

    • @PaulGarbettNZ
      @PaulGarbettNZ  Před 6 lety

      Depends on the size of the gun and the pump etc. Takes about 200 for my small gun and I think about 480 for the bigger one.

      @WillyK51 Před 2 lety

      Keep adding 50 pumps until you feel its about right(write down the how many, for when you do maintenace and have to pump up again) if its easy to load, keep adding till hard to load, take it underwater and try loading, keep adding till hard to load, don't dare shoot out of water, not a good idea to load out of the water, shaft will bend trying to load and unload, with practice your muscles will adapt and you can pump for more power

    Hi! Is it possible to unload the speargun in the water?

    • @PaulGarbettNZ
      @PaulGarbettNZ  Před 4 lety +1

      I dont think so. To unload it you put the loader on the spear on the ground, pull trigger, and use your body weight to release it slowly. I doubt theres any way to do this in the water. I would normally fire it off in a safe direction before coming ashore.

    Is the mares mini mini sten any good?

    • @PaulGarbettNZ
      @PaulGarbettNZ  Před 3 lety

      The range of those smaller guns is quite limited. Its about 6x the length. So 100cm means about 6m range, and 50cm means about 3m range. The vacuum system gives it more range. Otherwise they are probably pretty good.

    Are sling or pneumatic spearguns better?

    • @PaulGarbettNZ
      @PaulGarbettNZ  Před 2 lety +1

      Pneumatic spearguns are a lot better and were designed to overcome the shortcommings of sling/rubber guns. See my other video comparing them.

      @@PaulGarbettNZ Is there a pneumatic gun you would recommend for longer range?

    • @PaulGarbettNZ
      @PaulGarbettNZ  Před 2 lety +1

      @@dandy4394 Yes the guns with the vacuum kit have a longer range. The longer the gun the longer the range. See my review of the Salvimar Predathor Vuoto. There are others - like the Cressi Saetta Pro i think is vacuum kitted - but check that. The vacuum means it doesn't need to push out water along with the spear, which gives better power. My 85cm gives about 7m range.
