White feminism is quite just white supremacy for white women in my mind. It's about white women reaching the top of the hierarchy with white men. It's not about all women but the individual success of one particular woman. I've had many a discussion with women whose feminism is racist, homophobic, transphobic etc. How can you support the rights of women to live safely and authentically as a feminist and still find justify why some 'other' women ought not to have the same?

I agree with this completely. But I would add that “white feminism” does not only refuse to include the politics of race in its politics and ideology, it also refuses to include class (the biggest intersection there is, one which intersects will all other oppressions), it refuses to include ability, and queerness.
A white feminist is one who focuses purely on the issues that affect white, middle or upper class, straight, cisgender and abled women. It does not stand for the disabled, people of colour, the poor, trans women (terfs are very definitely white feminists), women with sexualities other than straight. And because it refuses to include these other aspects in its feminism, I would argue that it’s not very good feminism. White, middle and upper class, straight, cis, abled women are at the top of the totem pole of the entire gender.
And feminism needs to fight for all women, all minorities, and yes- even men. Because men are also impacted by the kyriarchy, by toxic standards, by things like class, race, sexuality, and disability. If your feminism does not fight for all of these people- is it even feminism at all?
Agreed. Fighting for feminism is not fighting for myself, it is fighting for the equality of all humans and their right as humans to be heard and respected as living, breathing, congnitive beings on our planet Earth. We are all important to the longevity of the human race as a whole, and if we don't get this together and soon, we may very well eliminate ourselves. Which counters my survival instinct as the only known intelligent and propagating living species in our galactic sector. Forgive the space nerd talk but....seriously humans we need to get it together and fast.
I agree with everything you said except when you said that feminism needs to fight for men.You are putting it as if women have to be the caregivers for men in a movement that was created for and by women, not to solve the problems of the people who created the oppressive system in the first place. Although, I have not come to my own solid conclusion/opinion on capitalism it does appear to manifest iteself ultimately in a modern day, "more humane" (questionable in some environments) form of slavery continuously exporting labor jobs to the cheapest markets. At the very least, It's not sustainable.

None of these arguments are new. They're just being noticed and regarded. My teacher and mentor at the time told me upfront that we as women of color shouldn't follow feminism because it's whitewashed. I threw my Betty Friedan book in the trash a long time ago. People can call it whatever they want, but referred to it was "womanism" in my time. Etymology isn't my point here though; the fact that this is regarded as a "recent" argument is hurtful because it just further proves how much women of color are ignored and disregarded. We've been screaming this from the beginning!!

Because being seen as oppressed allows you to make demands. Like pressuring a company to place a woman in a position of power. I believe you are trying to say that feminism is particularly made for privilege people and/or white women. It may not entirely encompass women from different backgrounds or who are multiply marginalized. Women from Afghanistan or black women would most probably feel excluded in todays feminism theory because it is not shown to consider their unique struggles, which may come from those women's culture or background.

Who cares be you! Sounds like its a personal problem for someone else. You can't help that you are white women.
You can try and widen your perspective. Interact with as many affected people as much as you can, take notes if possible. It'll help you understand the realities they have to face more and also improve inclusivity. But even so, sometimes people that comes from the same background, ethnicity, sexuality, etc can still have different experiences so don't rely on only one from each.

It's just one of those subjects that gets really tiring very fast. Capitalism, due to its ubiquity, is insanely efficient at distorting and taking over social movements. It's also why you can't be socially left wing and economically right wing if you have any consistent beliefs. But we've deluded ourselves into pretending like believing women are competent at traditionally male dominated fields is some insanely progressive position.
It's probably also why feminism tends to get a bad rap even within some progressive circles. The women I've asked about it IRL the, admittedly, few times it's come up just kind of seem iffy on the whole thing and don't like the girl boss pandering. Women, by a statistically significant margin, don't like to identify as feminist in my country, but we are more equal on gender issues than most countries.
And then there's the whole TERF thing, which really makes feminists look bad just by association. Just a ton of bad optics that I almost feel like a new intersectional movement needs to be born to replace "plain old feminism". Calling it "intersectional feminism" won't work either I think. I feel liberals have stripped too much substance to the point it has kind of become a punching bag for reactionaries.

Though I respect the effort to politicize and radicalize feminism, I think this kind of view and all the critical evaluations of so-called 'postfeminism' are just the straw man fallacy. Is there any influential feminist who actually argues that women around the world will be fully liberated when all Indian women can live like Carrie? I do not think there is anyone who even claims that American women will be liberated if women in Arkansas can live like her. Yes, there is a tendency among women that worships 'pretty' white self-acclaimed feminists like Emma Watson, however, is there anyone who explicitly endorses such tendency? There is hardly any. A social tendency can be harmful and might need a remedy. However, you cannot argue against it because it is not a claim. It is like the sexual objectification of women. It needs a remedy, but you cannot argue against it for no one, even its practitioner, argues for it.
What we can gather from all the related discourse is that feminism tends to be based on a criteria af "cultural" eligibility. It means if you're white and Christian, you're much more likely to have a prominent position among women and men who think alike and it will usually be based on education and informed activism. If you're wearing a niqab or are currently a Russian girl in a German kindergarden, don't expect too much sympathy from feminists or the acerage people. Women who entertain the idea of feminism tend to treat their counterparts suffering from all sorts of opression elsewhere as a token that just adds more moral sparkle to their overprivileged lives. Freedom is based on money and power. This is determined by your cultural background. Islam can't and will never be fully embraced by Christians in developed countries. The Neofacist movement is increasingly targeting Muslims and it's going to get worse, they're not going to stop. Not because of the treatment of Muslim women, but because they could one day reduce white Christians to a minority in their own country through "overbreeding" while "true" Europeans are suffering from the white plague. And soon it might not even be treated as discrimination due to the economic crisis and constant influx of Muslim immigrants. But you'll rarely hear an opinion about this. That's the whole point and there are very few, if any feminists who will dare to say it. Or understand it in the first place.
Both Christianity and Islam are BAD. Western countries are not "christian", we are atheist. Our religion is money. It is not about religion, that is just a cover up. China and Russia are not religious either, and they are the ONLY countries who can maybe fight USA. Europe is just a USA colony, especially my country, Italy. Which, by the way, is catholic only in name, but most of us are atheists.

This is a very interesting comment. Not many people discuss this aspect of the subject. But I think you have a good point. White women’s lives are mostly a reflection of their men.

ok, so by my interpretation, white feminists are what normally "feminism" is represented and what are supposed to look like, but it's so linked to colonial, white supremacist, upper class ideas that in the end alienate and exclude other oppressed groups such as sections of the LGBTQIA+, the poor and different ethinicities.
the idea is: "freedom" and "empowerment" from a white woman's perspective should be used as the BASE model to all women around the world but women from the middle eastern countries (who demands the end of war in their regions), black american women ( who has less opportunities and racial discrimination), transgender women (gender identity discrimination), poor women (economic discrimination), etc. have different demands compared to white upperclass women from western countries, this is what we call intersectional feminism: to consider the different needs and demands of the groups that is part of the movement (if the next commenter thinks I said something wrong please correct me)
the point of the video is to show that no one is benefiting from the current feminist system if it only reaches to white upper class women and we need to bring the other intersectional demands to light to raise each other, which means bring feminism back to the political sphere

When talking about Arab women she seemed to be on the verge of answering that question, but she never really did. There was mention of freedom from the patriarchy, but she didn't say how that applied to women in Arab countries. That left me mystified.
@@steve13565 well I'm not completely sure either on regards of middle eastern women section, the best case is someone form each intersection explain their demands, I just put some SUPER generalized examples for what I could see (war is NEVER good, and their culture, families, assets and dignity are just being striped away), I'm lacking but I want to learn... I hope we all could share what those demands are, because at the end, we need to know what is the problem to start searching for a solution
