It's been 13 years, and Phreak is still doing these. Been a while since i've been invested in the League community, but Arena brought me back. Fantastic spotlight, I love the updated format that includes counter play, especially for abilities that look "super easy and overpowered" like her w.
counterplay sure man, heal on Q, shield on R, resets, W only counterplay is heavy CC, Q dmg is infinite, surely SHE HAS FUKCING COUNTERPLAY
@@axb_zero8457 you sound upset. Her w is blockable, so a support or tank can get in the way. Her ult is a steroid, so if you cc her or get away while its up she cant get damage out of it. There's lots of counterplay
@@axb_zero8457 there is no abscence of heavy CC in league right now. Also she is not op most people just don't know how to position correctly which gives her a huge advantage. She is a beginner assassin champ which is why she is so easy, but she also comes with the weakness of all assassins. She will be great in helping more low ELO players learn the importance of positioning.
@@TraxisOnTheLines no there isnt, unless u pick certain champs she can just run u down, theres almost noone that can fight her with all her shield heals and dmg and u cant run away either bcs crazy W range and mainly move spd from ult, which lasts longer than ur CC

I really like this design insight explaining what role the Champion is trying to achieve, really helpful for new players; I hope you guys keep this for the future Spotlights.
Personally i really like to see more streamlined champs now and then. It's nice to see a champ that doesn't need multiple paragraphs to explain.
And having a simpler champ for new players, or new to a role is very nice to see
Honestly I'm glad to see a simpler champion intended for newer players. Shows they're giving a nod to attracting players to the game.

Dude the problem for new players isnt complicated kits its the immense game/macro knowledge you need to understand to play and the items.

@@ivarte but a simpler play style means they can more easily learn those things. It's still not an easy game to get into, but lowering the load is quite useful.

Naafiri looks pretty one dimensional, but as someone who doesn't jungle much, she looks easy to pilot for when I need to fill the role.
She's a mid laner though,not a jungler
@@TheGoldwarrior2Interesting. Now that I look back, there are clips of her in mid and clips of her jungling. I had assumed she's a jungler. But I'm always down for champions that can be flexed in multiple roles.
@@ade1174 the clips of her being in the jungle part of the map is when she is roaming, as her kit really favours this type of playstyle
she can definitely fill the jungle role from the looks of it
If you jungle her, she's super susceptible to invades as she needs her abilities to farm and she has no escapes

i like that she also has a clear counter. yes if shes fed it will be hard, but if you have aoe dmg you can kill her packmates, which nerves her severely

There's been a lot of complex champs over the years, so it's nice to see an actual noob friendly one.

While i haven't played league in years, i still see this stuff from time to time. Honestly this feels like a breath of fresh air, the abilities aren't too complicated, which is a good step away from their more recent line ups.

I haven’t played League in a while either and I recently stopped by to see what changed. I am having to watch champion spotlights because there are new champions that I am not seeing played in games. I have to wonder why.

900 range undodgable point and click gapcloser that follows ur dashes, on an assassin, and it becomes 1250 with her other dash, COOL, LOTS OF COUNTER PLAY TO THIS ONE!

After playing around with her awhile. Her numbers are a tad to high aswell as she is just to visually noisy as is in there's to much effects it's hard to know what's actually happening. Tho this is just my opinion.

Out of all the OP Champs I can see Naafri being among the worst. Haha. She looks super fun to play though. Those gap closers are nuts. Akali and Ahri look like childsplay.

Over terrain dash, lock on, huge range, and a slow in 1 ability is crazy.

Idk, something about all the benefits she gets from her abilities (skill shot blocks, bonus shields, vision, mini nocturne ult) makes her seem just a bit too overloaded/annoying to deal with. Talon feels like a better “intro to assassin” character

@@zefix3133 Her q is easy to dodge and her point and click dash can literally not only be interrupted by cc but also standing in the way of hew w causes her to stop kinda like Cait ult. Only thing that doesn't stop are her dogs. Again... She's an assassin she needs ways to gap close and she needs burst damage that focuses on single targets at a time. Her abilities literally force her to commit and push herself in the heat of battle. If you're alone you die if you're not shes easy to punish...

Like it's so ridiculous to think about how high that range is especially for an assassin. Now combine it with her 350 e dash and she has a almost 1300 gapcloser XD. Hitting her q point blank is pretty easy. There is a reason she has 54% winrate as a new champion

Okay you do realize you just made an assasin champion who 1. Is extremely hard to hit bcs dogs, 2. Most lilely has a very healthy jungle clear 3. Has a point and click dash that can only be blocked by teammates, a trait usually reserved for ultimate abilities, because a basic ability shouldn't call for constant pressure to stand in front of squishies and 4. Who's only weak trait is her lack of mobility after engaging, a trait easily solved by the confusion her dogs cause, a duskblade and the movement speed she gets. Also 5. You can't even use vision control to your benefit against her, and you can't even just kill her dogs like you would with yorick because we gotta give her something to heal them with, who cares about HP management.
You know I understand it can be hard playtesting and stuff but was there really noone in the office who mentioned how frustrating this could be to non-competitve players who don't want to constantly get rushed by a pack of unpunishable dog minions. It's especially funny because her kit is surprisingly dumb, aside of hitting the two Qs. It's like she was designed so a single casual player could ruin the game for 9 others, because she has everything they could possibly need + Duskblade's new infuriating passive.
I don't often think a LoL champ is badly designed, I wouldn't even say it here, but I feel like there were oversights when making her and she just ends up being a chore to play against.
I was starting to get worried that Naafiri's spotlight would only be a short. Thank God...

A Champion Spoltight should show how to COUNTER a new champion, also. ALL these Spotlights are always focused on the champion abilities, but they never teach us how to defend against her. A Champion Spotlight is currently 100% "This is what she does", it should be 70% "This is what she does" and 30% "Here are real world examples of her fighting, to show us when to engage her, and how. It's *VERY* Frustrating playing against new champions because, while we have 10 years of experience killing Lux, MF and Jax, we have 0 experience with this new champion -- and this lack of experience is even WORSE with a new POINT AND CLICK champion like Naafiri comes out, and she ruins the game for like 1 to 2 months. *PLEASE* add real-world fights to the Champion Spotlights, already! UGhhhhhhhhhhhh!!
It did. It said to body block the W for your squishies and that she is extremely vulnerable after blowing her mobility. It also showed how the hounds work. If you can't gather how to counter her from that you have not had 10 years of experience at all.
Sorry to say joe, but i agree with Novictus. Phreak clearly shows the weaknesses as seen in the video.

Can she see stealthy Champions like Evelynn or Vayne during ult?
If adjusted right (a bit OP during PBE), her kit is not overloaded. It can't prolong trades and is only there to kill an enemy asap, kind of how a dog or a wolf pack would act. Perfect for an assassin concept.
It's a beginner champ with a high mastery ceiling. They did great with this one.

Her numbers are completely out of balance right now. 54% winrate in mid for a new champion is ridiculous. Her simple kit also makes it really hard to balance it without making her useless

beginner friendly assassin xd by that you mean no skill to kill ? She is so simple to the point of being broken with targetable dash, range poke, bleed, wall jumps, vision, movement speed, bonus damage, resets on R, shield and healing, everything on low cooldown.... is there a thing this champion can't do ? its so noob friendly its actually toxic.
Meanwhile Akali as "assassin" for experienced players, simply do damage on all of her abilities as you removed everything that was unique from her kit, her burst is none existing and her damage dealing is so slow that she should be called a tank, especially with this weird, crazy amount of hp base regen. Also don't forget that after using 5x Q, 1xW, E and R she have nothing to do for about 20 sec, missing one Q or E skillshot means you can't even kill anything as most of her damge comes from long cooldown E and her R do only big dmg to low hp targets

It's a great concept and it's well executed, my problem with it is that when you play with her, you feel you should be making A LOT more damage than what it ends up doing
