    I grew up with Mike on Genesta Ave. in Van Nuys. As kids we were entertained by Mike on a daily basis. Skits on Friday's were things we did as kids. The whole neighborhood knew he was going somewhere big. The rest is history.

    I'm sure I've watched comments from him in the past "as himself" but I don't recall my thoughts at the moment. I guess I've never been curious to watch an interview with him because he's "Kramer". Just watching a few minutes of this after being a "Seinfeld" fan for nearly 30 years, you realize his brilliance and how totally he was able to sublimate his personality to that of the character. Same thing with Jason Alexander. Absolutely brilliant performances, the best on TV ever.

    • @mickm5097
      @mickm5097 Před rokem

      Yes, exactly. I'd put Michael Richards ahead of Jason Alexander because he is just nothing at all like Kramer, Kramer's personality and mannerisms are an entire creation. Jason is not the pathetic, loud loser that George Costanza is, but he does have some elements of pompousness in his personality that translate well to the George character.

    Boy, talk about type casting....And, talk about cancel culture.
    I’m very saddened about the way things went down in our extremely judgmental society. Before, and after Michael Richards life was changed forever, doing stand up.
    I see him struggling so hard NOT to appear as Kramer...Not even one single bit!
    In Richard’s life, it was hard enough to be taken seriously as a human being, and not some animated character, on a sit com.
    But, when you throw in being SUDDENLY PERCEIVED AS A RACIST, TOO!!!!!,????? (In which HE’S NOT) That’s what makes everything so horrible.
    I’m sure that Richards has close friends, where he can be himself, and have great conversations at home...I hope so. Because, just looking at Richard’s face, sets off a virtual film roll of Seinfeld episodes! Lol. God bless that man.

    I loved MR on Seinfeld. I think it would be very hard for him to be successful in standup today. There was a documentary that showed how hard it was for Seinfeld to get back into live shows. It was very hard and there were no barriers for Seinfeld. MR would have to burn off the rust, be not funny, while he is polishing his act and deal with the modern wokism as well. That said, I wish him well and hope he does get out there if he chooses. I think he should go low key. Perhaps ask clubs not to announce it before hand and then come out and try a bit of material.

    Michael Richards isn't really that funny as Michael Richards. It's when he's acting that his comedic skills take over. Was this interview conducted before Michael Richards' horrifyingly explosive, rage/hate fueled racist rant at The Laugh Factory??? This is NOT a well, individual. I struggle to reconcile this crazed bigot's behavior, with my respect for his extraordinary talent/remarkable work on Sienfeld, but I'm white. I don't believe I'd struggle w/it if I were a Black Person. I love the show. It's a masterpiece, but I connot respect Richards, personally. He never, did what he vowed to do to come to tems with himself & with the Black community. He was a brilliant physical comedic actor. He is not a good stand up comic. He is a, one hit wonder, comic ACTOR. He ACTED as IF, he was sorry for his crazed, hate-filled racist tantrum, but he did NOT DO THE WORK. Does ANYONE REMEMBER TO WHAT I'M REFERRING???

      I don't get the feeling that he is racist. He was just taking words too far in his attempt at shock humor. A racist is someone who treats others different and from what I have read he always treated African Americans with dignity and respect.

      In this interview, he said he was working on putting together material for an act that dealt with racial issues. The problem is that he's primarily been a comic actor (as opposed to a comedian) for decades. He didn't have the skill to pull it off the way Bill Burr and few (if any) other white stand-up comedians can, and the result was that ugly mess at the Laugh Factory.

    If this was shot six years ago, it was well after his onstage controversy. A little disappointed that the host from the "First Amendment Center" didn't bring it up. Especially with all those graphics in the background. I'd bet the house that it was purposeful move that Richards demanded.
