I’m a big fan of optimus stuff and have used there blocks for two builds now, both 5950x + 3090 strix and 13900k + 4090 strix
One time I had to use their CS to resolved stripped holes on 4090 block they took it back and had it fixed and back to me within week and half with consistent communication after they reached out
Definitely a fan, though I’d never recommend them to someone on a budget. You buy them for aesthetic (I’m anti rgb on my blocks and hate having to disable or rip out cables on other blocks) and build quality, not for a couple degrees over cheaper competitor….that said, when 3090s had those VRAM heat issues Optimus was first to have a block that resolved that

just fyi EK started in hardforums around 2004 selling blocks that outperformed everything for $30 with up to a 6 month waiting time....also byski makes bitspower, then bitspower throws $100 surplus on it. I like Byski because they use pretty decent thermal pads... I run alphacool when I can...

I have used, swiftech, EK, Bykski, Granzon, and Bitspower GPU blocks over the years.
I personally have never had an issue with any of the blocks. So I never needed customer service from any of them.
However.... For some reason I will always buy a swiftech product over any of the others. But, I don't know if they make blocks anymore.
I've been very impressed with Bykski and Bitspower lately on my current GPUs.
As for CPU blocks... I don't buy anything but Iceman blocks now.

@@revolverswitch I like to use tellurium copper because it machines easier than pure copper. I don't plate them because I haven't setup a process for that. If I would I'd use an electroless nickel process because it doesn't change geometry/dimensioning as much as electro plating. Sometimes I'll skip machining microfins and use a cold plate from HeatKiller and sandwich it into a bigger block. I'm still trying to figure out how Camino skives there microfins. They have the best blocks I've seen.

eN is .0005 to .0008 per surface?
Have you noted any reall thermal changes between bare copper vs a Ni coating?
I imagine it is so thin it doesn't inhibit thermal pass through noticeably. My understanding around nickel plating on these components (cpu lids) is used for gavanic corrosion resistance and oxidation protection etc. I imagine a smoother surface on coated fins probably helps flow rate and smoother surfaces always mate better(IHS) I imagine it offers a bit of toughness/hardness too. Ironically, copper components and fittings could function as a great biocide, but Oxidiziation would eventually make them less conductive.
I'll eventually get around to doing some expirements, lol.
Think about water cooled vapor chambers. Just something different.
Throw in A compressor and evaporator side haha.😂 Tinkering is why we all do this right? External thermo reading with RH and dewpoint figured. Always optimal cooling. Punch the hotside out the wall lol.

The block you got a smoking deal on, did it have the revision 2 cold plate and midplate, out of interest? You're right, the performance difference doesn't justify the cost difference, no argument there, it's a premium splurge if you like the aesthetics and the craftsmanship, not a value/$ play. And that's okay as long as you're honest with yourself and not posturing at others.

For GPU blocks I have had mostly Bitspower and Hydro Copper. No problems with either one, and only owned Hydro Copper because they were the only block available for the Kingpin GPUs. I do have an Alphacool block on one of my 4090s and a Bitspower on the other one and there is no difference in performance. I've never had to use their customer service, but I would suspect that Alphacool would be better if I needed to. I did have a Barrow block once and it was OK except that none of the screws that came with it were the correct size. I had to buy all new screws. It wasn't worth the hassle to ask for their support for the extra $5.00 it cost for new screws.

I’ve used 2 Ekwb blocks and they haven’t failed me. Their products are good. I heard many customer service nightmares but I think maybe sometimes people overreact like babies. Not everything in life is always perfect. Products fail and it happens from time to time. I’ll still use Ekwb for as long as they exist.

Do you go to work and expect to get paid for that work??? Or do you not care about being able to feed yourself and put a roof over your own head???
