For a beginner I think that the deckbuilders toolkit is a pretty cool deal, because you get some lands, you get some basic cards, you get some booster packs. And for the price of 16$ (that's for what they sell it in my LGS) you could only get yourself 4 booster packs(around 4$ each). Overall it's a good deal.
Oh yea i bought one today
I got started in magic with this exact deck builder's toolkit!
Reuben Seddon lol same
Same
You mentioning at 13:52 that the cards from the packs feels different from the cards from the kit made me relieve.
I bought this on amazon and it arrived today. And after I unpacked it I felt that something was odd, the cards surface felt different than previous cards. To be clear, I'm not an active MTG player. Last pack I bought was MTG Origins Deckbuilder's Toolkit, and I went and compared the M20 cards with Origins cards and there was an obvious difference between the cards. I thought maybe the M20 kit is fake and tried the bend test and light test, but it passed both tests. I decided to watch an unboxing video to see if anyone else mentioning the difference, before making a tear test. Thankfully I've watched this video.
This was my first MTG product. I never regret that purchase.
I feel that they are a pretty decent deal for new players. It teaches them how to build decks and experiment with different archetypes, whereas with a Planeswalker deck you have to play the deck that you buy.
I personally started with a Shadows of Innistrad deck builders toolkit and an Oath of the Gatewatch Intro Pack (the Selesnya +1/+1 counter ally one). I found (and still find) that the lands I got for the toolkit were extremely useful. The intro pack was nice for me to see how to build a deck, but ultimately I loved that the toolkit allowed me to experiment with other color combos. I love the toolkits, they allowed me to discover my love for Izzet and Orzhov after all ☺️
I started magic with this, the five Core 2020 PW decks, a booster box of Throne of Eldraine, and a booster box of 2020. A handful of single grabs later, I made the following 3 decks:
-Sephara's Entourage (Blue / White flyer spam)
-Omnath Turbo (Green / Red Elemental ramp, splashes Blue)
-I Can't Believe it's Not Sorin (Mono Black aggro drain 'n gain)
Most of my decks lean heavily into cheap swarms. As a player, I tend to favor low-power hordes (I never make a deck without at least 8x 1-mana creatures; 12-16 is preferred, while sephara runs well over 20 for obvious reasons) because they resist removal by avoiding single expensive points of failure, all while having sufficient removal of my own to punish my opponents for not doing the same. I've come to understand that this basically makes me MTG's "that guy", especially as my favorite colors are white, blue and black.
Meanwhile, I keep hearing about how mono-red aggro is this self-building budget juggernaut for noobs, but I never really saw the appeal. My thoughts on the whole color are basically "too much Shivan Dragon, not enough Fervent Champion". Mono Black not only seems faster with cheap drops aplenty (Cauldron Cat, Vampire of Dire Moon, Eye Collector, Knight of Ebon Legion, Sanitarium Skeleton...), but has a far more versatile toolbox.
First time for me it was the 2013 toolkit, a Jace and Chandra planeswalker. At the time didn't realised the luck and didn't continue the trip but now i'm in again thanks to magic arena. Bought a jace deck and recently did my first prereleased event. Thank for the video also !
*i managed to pull a jace and chandra planeswalker
I cracked one of these open yesterday, in the packs I got 2 mythics, 2 planeswalkers, a holographic planeswalker, and a holographic rare.... I don’t know what luck is anymore
Whoah😲
One of the best things I've ever bought is one of these boxes (many years ago). building a deck whilst having a limited pool of cards breeds creativity, and it is also way more entertaining to play (and to play against) decks built by free hand rather than just another streamlined netdeck. oh, if only you'd also build decks from this content (on video), instead of just opening the packs ;)
The sad thing is I've done that before, and no one watches that part😢
@@MTGUnpacked sure we do :)
8:22 - Yes, we did. It was a lot of fun. I hope WoC make another deck builders toolkit, 'cause it's one of the best products WoC ever made. Maybe challenger decks are the best, but this is still solid product for expanding your collection. Watching this gives me a ton of nostalgia. Begining in MTG was awesome time!
Thank this toolkit I fell in love with elementals. I love elemental decks. Even if the Omnath was ban, I still can play decent plays in MTG:A.
I'm thinking about a vampire deck. I thought that if Sorin is one of the Planeswalker decks, we would find more vampires.... :(
10 vampires in Core Set 2020, which is way more than an average set. We were spoiled by Ixalan block!
I always get the planeswalker decks and just keep them in a giant BCW box just because..I bought two Ravnica fat packs and a deckbuilder's kit and built a standard orzhov deck to get started. Now I've built a mono white first strike deck for EDH with Kweme as my commander and came in 2nd place out of 20 person tournament smashing face.
Nicely done!
I love this channel compared to any other unboxing channel for things like the way you read the cards and the Funko Pops are always funny
You got a LOT of planeswalkers
Thanks for the pack cracks! I started with an intro pack at my local games store then got the this 2020 toolkit.
Congratulations on 5k sub, 3 days till your channel upload anniversary!
Great video! Deck builder's toolkit may be the best tool kit for the new players to make their own deck, Thanks for the video!
The deckbuilder holds some serious value. Not bad
Mine was identical. obviously not the booster pack contents but the other clear packs was the same.
Fun, cracking packs is my jam!
Got started with the Vivian planswalker prebuilt
I think it was worth it for me to buy one yesterday because I pulled a Liliana, Dreadhorde General from the WotS booster in the box!
Wow!🤩
I was thinking about getting it, but i wanted to see if it had most of the cards i want first... now i know which one ! Unfortunately here in Brazil we have to pay something like $24.00 more or less so i'm not sure it will be a good deal =\. Anyway, great video, thanks !!!
finalmente um comentario br
Here in strata we pay $25-$30. Then again, packs are $6-$8 dollars and everything is slightly more expensive on America
I bought an alligencs toolkit and got a Vivien reid and a foil bolas with a core 2019 pack
and you get a box to keep your decks in its actully a good qulity card board
I started mtg in the khans block
my friend got me into magic
Seems like a pretty decent package for a beginner
I’m deffintly herring one
So for the price you pay for the sealed packs get the rest for free basically
I got a Core Set 2019 fat pack a month ago. I didn't realize it would rotate out
Does that mean you can't use the 2019 and older cards anymore? I'm just starting to play and don't quite understand how it works.
@@DN-cf5rz you won't be able to use it in standard but you can in modern, if you have played to hearthstone it's like the classic/wild system
I got a planeswalker deck then a core set of guilds of Ravinca then deck builders toolkit 2020
I might actually buy it
They should bring down the price to $10 with no lands. Way to many lands. Love the Goblin voice
The whole point is to make a deck...
I don't buy these anymore. There's 4 booster packs, but 3 of them are from past sets. All 4 packs should be M20.
Only problem with that is you'd be limiting your card pool. This way you get cards from other Standard-legal sets.
In the last pack u get a split card invert or something..i didnt play in about 15 years and i dont like the innistrad day/night mechanic. Any tips on what i should buy... I dont like weird mechanics just the oldschool MTG
Nice Aussie as well? Sounds slightly off like South African heritage, too?
Yep. I've been living in the US for almost 20 years, so it may have done some weird things to my accent😉
A quick question. Sory my english is not the best but i try my best. Should i buy 2 boxes? wanna play with my little brother and we are very new in mtg.
The Planeswalker decks might be a better option, since you'd have to build your own decks with the deck builder's toolkits. Might be a fun challenge, though!
Nice! Love the vid! Listen, so I'm pretty ok at mtg but i don't have my own deck, should i buy a planeswalker or a deckbuilder as my first deck?
My friend have told me that the deckbuilder is better, and it appears so, but it is it worth the money?
Thanks!
The Planeswalker decks are great if you're an absolute beginner, but they're not terribly competitive. The newer ones have codes to unlock the decks in MTG Arena. The deckbuilder's toolkit is probably more useful for you at this point, since it will help you get started with learning how to build decks. You'll be able to build a bunch of different decks with this.
@@MTGUnpacked thanks! Appreciate it!
question does anyone know if these deck boxes come with the exact same cards everytime
Cool vid!
I guess I got lucky cause when I cracked my pack I got 4 holos and a mythic
Sure did!
I did not get the deck builders guide :(
You dont need to shout every 30 seconds...
WHAT'S WRONG WITH SHOUTING?
@@MTGUnpacked because i have to adjust the volume every time you do...
Not that good if we think about rares and super cool cards haha but perfect for begginers
Rafael Castro yeah I agree I’m new and I got this for Black Friday yesterday and I’ve already made 3 decks and can’t wait to try them out
Do these work well for building commanders
No, you're rarely going to find any Legendary Creatures to use as Commanders, and I wouldn't expect many cards to be useful in Commander.
Please do the bundle
Did you see the previous video?🤔
MTG Unpacked ye I noticed after watching this oops 😅
Can I pls trade you
Sorry, I spend all my free time making daily videos😢
