    It's disheartening to witness a significant increase in poverty in the Netherlands, affecting around 1 million individuals who are grappling with making ends meet. Among them, a portion holds jobs and falls into the category of the "working poor." Unfortunately, if the expectation is that living standards will decline, the situation is likely to worsen. It's challenging to find reasons for optimism in such circumstances. It is probably also the reason that extremism is growing in Europe

    Europe is doing better than expected becasue a year ago governments were talking about planned blackouts and fuel rationing etc doesnt has any information value at all. That's just people getting a tiny glimpse into crisis management, many politicians probably only just realising it exists during the pandemic, but there always are and always have been plans for rationing for example, just in case. There are plans for nuclear disasters, that doesn't mean they happen all the time or that we have even come close to any in decades. And claiming that Europe is still doing better than most is nice and true, but it makes the future look bleak at best. We should aim higher and strive to improve, maybe help others along the way, not calming ourselves that we are not as bad off as some places in the world. Some 2 years ago my country compared itself to Germany like "we are not doing as well as they are, but we are closing the gap" now our government is comparing us to Greece during their crisis "we are still doing better than Greece was doing in 2009." That really doesn't instill hope about the future in people.

      We should not forget that Europe has a war nearby, which has had a significant impact on energy and trade in the last two years. Additionally, when examining the economy, there are indications that it will improve in the near future. We can observe a drop in inflation and the creation or transition to other energy sources.
      Furthermore, the economic figures of the USA do not truly represent the entire situation. While the wealthiest 1% in the USA have accumulated significant wealth, the income of the median or lower segments of the population is either stagnating or decreasing (including Inflation). How can one claim that the USA is performing better when a considerable portion of its population is experiencing stagnation or decline?

    Europeans become pessimistic about their economic outlook because their EU leaders have denied them and their industries affordable energy, which are basic needs. EU leaders were signing an economic sentence when they swapped affordable long term Russian gas contracts for expensive short term Russian gas contracts, months before Putin started to limit the gas supplies. Nothing of these sanctions met the desired result. Putin still is in office, his war chest is not empty, occupied territories will not be recaptured and Russia's economy has not been broken. Instead of admitting their mistakes, EU leaders stick to a policy that hurts our own economies. Meanwhile the rise of extreme right hollows out our democracies. What a farce!

    Demographically, Germany is a dying state! The fertility/birthrates started colapsing 20 years ago, snd now they are experiencing a fundemental change in capacity to support their industrial bases. The sudden shift from fossil fuel supplies, and associated industries is much more than can be withstood, and unless those industries can find a new home elsewhere with the supply chains included, the whole of the EU will feel the "bump" as Germany's economy tanks! This will undoubtedly have an effect on EU cohesion, politically and economically! There are few, IF ANY, nations capable or willing to support such a large proportion of aging Germans, even though many other nations will start to notice similar demographic threats themselves!
    Harnessing immigrant labour to prop up the labour markets and sustain the inevitably high tax requirements, will only work for so long!
    HOW do Germas survive this? HOW do Germany's neighbours and allies survive thiis? Unless the war with Russia is CONCLUDED, and prevented from EVER happening again, SOON, this will provide the Kremlin with the exact opportunity to force their expansionist agenda, across Europe, AGAIN!

However, this is the first media contribution I have found that explains why the situation is better than it appeared to be. And I agree with it. The standard of living is still very high, social security is still secure. Globally, we still are a financial and economic superpower, in contrast to other countries like Russia, for instance. And given the existential threat the latter poses, our temporarily high inflation is a small price to pay.

      What is the national central banks’ role?
      The national central banks in the euro area offer the last safety net for banks that cannot get the funding they need elsewhere. This safety net is called emergency liquidity assistance, or ELA. In the euro area, ELA loans are provided by the national central bank of the country in which the struggling bank is based. That national central bank also bears any costs and risks that may arise.
      ELA is only for banks that are solvent
      To qualify for ELA banks can be illiquid but they need to be solvent. Being illiquid means that banks might struggle to repay all their depositors at the current time. Being solvent means that they are able to do so in the long term. A bank can become illiquid while remaining solvent because its funds might be tied up in longer-term loans it has given to its customers.

Old Europeans worked hard and build nations while new generation forget the past and trying to do less actual work and more management.

    The current pyramid scheme of housing where older entrants block construction of newer houses/ the system encourages those who own a lot to own more and those who do not have to increasingly not be able to have. This structural inequality/ wider wealth inequality/ generational inequality is the core driver for dissatisfaction across Europe. Young families/people can only dream of having lives similar to their parents. A house in a bad neighborhood when our parents were younger is now sometimes unattainable for a young person, sending young people into worse and worse locations/conditions if they want to buy / start a family.

    If you do as the Emericans say...
    ->your economy is destroyed,
    ->your standard of living drops,
    ->you are joining a war you don't need to fight,
    ->against a country who really isn't your enemy.
