WALL-E Characters: Good to Evil
It is the 29th century. Earth has grown into a desolate wasteland, with humanity having evacuated long ago. Many robots were left behind by the notorious Buy n Large corporation to clean up the planet, but only one remains. That robot's name is WALL-E, and after he falls in love with an unfamiliar robot, a story unfolds that will change the course of humanity forever! That, ladies and gentlemen, is the basic plot of the movie weâll be looking at today, âWALL-Eâ. The ninth film from Pixar, âWALL-Eâ is another classic in the studioâs catalog of animated features. While the film has all the usual charm and heart one would expect from the company, âWALL-Eâ also managed to stand out in a few areas. One of those is the film's lack of dialogue. The first act is nearly devoid of any dialogue, and most of the roles in the film are that of robots with minimal speaking capabilities. While they do âspeak,â their body language really does most of the talking. Despite their limitations, this cast of robots have all the character youâd expect from any Pixar character. But of the crew, which ones do the best job serving mankind, and which are due for a firmware update? Letâs take a trip aboard the Axiom and get to the bottom of this!

Even though it's not a character, the score for this movie deserves praise as well. Has the same wondrous feel as Super Mario Galaxy. Beautiful and inspiring
The sound effects and images are enough to move you, the fact they managed to pull this off with hardly any actual dialogue shows that anything really is possible
Primal. They have no English dialogue at all. Granted it is not as good as Wall E, but its still pretty good granted you are not squirmish of blood

Randy really made Radiator Springs, and the entire journey just THAT much more fleshed out.
Despite the fact heâs a machine, Wall-E truly had a heart of gold.
Not to mention the fact that heâs the literal savior of humanity
And humans still think robots donât have feelings
And AUTO is the exact opposite
He did all that work for the humans
He has a heart of steel
In AUTOâs defense, he was just following his directive.
But he wasn't programed with an AI, he was programed with an algrythm
Exactly, heâs not really evil, heâs just following orders. And he was actually trying to protect humanity since he thinks its too dangerous to return to Earth.

BNL was the real bad guy of this film.
After watching the movie, I started to theorize that AUTO might have little to no free-will. The BNL implanted the A113 directive on him, which is part of his core. It would be like trying to remove part of our brain.
He is bound to follow it, even if there's clear proof that humanity can return to Earth. He could watch a fully-healed and cleaned Earth, and he would still reject it because of his directive. He doesn't want to follow his directive, he *has* to follow it.

It's no surprise Wall-E got the gold metal of good. He's a kind, and well loving robot who wants to help those around him. Kinda like Spongebob, but way less of a worry freak at times.đ€đđ€đ§Ą

I don't know if I'd describe SpongeBob as so much a worry wort as much as I'd say he's overly hyperactive; he has too much energy most of the time, and doesn't always use it productively, which tends to result in him creating as many problems as he solves. But other than that, I agree that Wall-E deserves the gold medal of most good by far the most, being nothing but helpful and loyal to Eve for the entirety of the movie, even having managed to befriend a cockroach, an animal the most would find disgusting and revolting, due to his kind and helpful personality. Personally, I would have put the captain of the Axiom at second place, as even though he's lazy, it's still thanks in large part to his efforts that the humans are able to return to earth at the end of the movie, which I think is an even greater act of good than any other character not named Wall-E displays

Can I be honest? AUTO deserved to be higher on the list. Here's why:
He didn't realize what he was doing was wrong.
AUTO may be intelligent and have total control over everything on the Axiom, but he's also, well, an autopilot. He's a literal robot, programmed to follow his directive. And I hear some people saying, "But WALL-E was programmed just like AUTO, and he stopped following his directive!" Yes, but I give you this: AUTO's directive was, in a way, much more urgent than WALL-E's. WALL-E's main programming is to clean up trash. When you look at the big picture, it's urgent, but WALL-E doesn't have a lot of foresight, so day-to-day, the job doesn't seem all that important. Meanwhile, AUTO's day-to-day task was to pilot a ship filled with what remains of humanity and keep them surviving by any means possible. Yes, they weren't really "living" but they were surviving, meaning AUTO was doing his basic job.
Watching the movie again, it seems like some robots, like WALL-E, EVE, and M-O are programmed with something resembling a moral compass and human-esque emotions and this is what allows them to break free of their directives when the situation calls for it. Given the importance of his job, AUTO likely wouldn't have received that programming, needing to stay on task 24/7 for hundreds of years. And without that programming, AUTO wouldn't have a sense of morality. If a villain doesn't realize what they're doing is wrong, are they really villains?
Final point: If AUTO's not the worst character in the movie, who is?
Shelby Forthright.
Forthright was in charge of a company that literally had command over the ENTIRE WORLD. He was basically President of Earth and never does he once strike me as someone who has the brains or the motivation to hold such a position. He's a businessman, not a president. And like any sleazy businessman, he preferred to take the easy way out instead of coming up with an updated solution to the trash crisis. Yes, he lived 700 years ago and we don't know how bad things were then, but we can assume they were about as bad as when the movie opens. And we CLEARLY see updated versions of the WALL-E robots in the trash compactor scene, working just fine thank you. And they're the same basic design as WALL-E, just larger with more components! Why not get a few of those guys down there to help out, Forthright?
If you made it this far on my rant, you have a bigger attention span than I do, congratulations.

Why are George and AJ below the construction workers? They just want to escort an old man to a place they think will help him. The construction workers on the other hand, at least the boss, is malicious and tries everything to part Carl from his house over what? A few square yards of land? Carl probably doesnât have long to live, he could have just waited a decade. But no, he has to sue him for it

WALLâąE is almost 15 now! I love this movie so much it doesn't need a sequel! The scenes that sicken me to my stomach are when AUTO shocks WALLâąE and when WALLâąE nearly gets crushed by the holo detector. Of all the passengers on the Axiom, even the robots, who are heartbroken, EVE is the most heartbroken out of all of them, even me. It goes to show how much everyone loves him...

I think you should have put some more characters on the list, like Hal (Wall-e's pet cockroach), John, Mary and maybe Steward robots.

One thing I felt really exemplified a good quality in the CEO is the implications behind his final scene where he puts on the gas mask as he says Earth is no longer inhabitable. Itâs a small detail, but it shows he is not actively on board the Axium, but rather still on Earth. While thereâs a possibility he was traveling to and from to evaluate the present situation on Earth, it seems much more viable that he stayed behind to address the situation as much as he could, until he either could get on a conjoined ship or otherwise breath his last breath. Itâs a small detail, but I think it says a lot for his personality and how he likely regretted his actions which ultimately attributed to the untimely demise of the planet. Even if he had a means to join the Axium, it says a lot for him to be one of the last to board.

WALL-E definitely deserves the gold medal of good, as heâs easily one of the kindest and noblest characters in Pixarâs Canon. Plus he is the literal savior of humanity, so that has to count for something.
However, I take issue with where you place AUTO. AUTOâs not really evil; in fact, he actually has good intentions in what heâs doing. Heâs trying to protect humanity because he thinks itâs dangerous to return to Earth (based on outdated information heâs been programmed with)
Itâs honestly quite tragic how he canât break away from his programming like the other robots. He just wants to do what he thinks is best for humanity, but he fails to see the bigger picture of how this is what humanity needs. And ultimately, this proves to be his downfall.
Well, he did act out in hostility towards WALL-E by tasing his power box, thus shorting out his power chip, and even attacked Captain McCrea when they were battling for domination.
I honestly canât believe why they put AUTO as the most intelligent of the Pixar Villains, as he did take BnL President and CEO Shelby Forthrightâs directive âA113â (which is an Easter Egg of Pixar) literally, as did all of the previous Autopilots, much like an idiot, and I feel like Syndrome should probably take his place.
I love this movie so much. Obviously Wall-E is gold medal of good.

WALL-E is without a doubt my favourite pixar movie! I couldn't help but idolise the movie when I was younger, and I still love it today for probably how accurately it will be of predicting the future and how incredibly well it was made; WALL-E x EVE are probably one of the cutest animated movie couples out there. Somehow the small cast of major characters makes it even better, as there's no need for extra comedy relief or distractions.

I think unlike most of the Pixar villains AUTO is kind of different. AUTO did not intend to be evil but instead is misguided in trying to preserve humanity. Most other villains in movies I have seen are intending to be evil.

That is undoubtedly true, but by following those orders, he was effectively dooming humanity to never be able to return to earth, possibly staying trapped in space with no planet to call home before humanity eventually either becomes extinct, or otherwise becomes SOOO dependent on technology that they would have no way to survive colonizing a planet that their technology isn't suited for. And everyone else who is commenting that Auto should be in the grey area rather than being evil is clearly ignoring the fact that he wouldn't allow the captain to take command of the ship so it could return to earth when that isn't ultimately his decision to make; Auto also isn't acting based on what would be best for the people onboard the ship, even when that SHOULD be his primary objective
Also, the dude tasered the lovesick trash bot, then crushed him with a plant pedestal.

Since you did put the Burn-E short here... how about the provider robot from the same short? It kind of even fits the grey/bad category, since each time Burn-E flops it gets more and more aggressive towards it (or at least, passive aggressive).

I wouldn't say Good to "Evil". More like Good to "Bad". There's a difference between being Bad and Evil. While Auto does pull out some dirty tricks which doesn't make him a good guy, he is still following his orders.
