I don't understand why people fit the 501PL plate pointing directly at lens at right angles to base of camera body. I find it far more stable and easier to fit the plate following along the base of the camera body. The camera with plate then slides into the tripod head sideways until it locks into place.

This modification with the 504L plate allows the Olympus to be mounted on the film head and on the gimbal in a vertical and horizontal arrangement. With this setup, along with the 504L long plate and the Manfrotto L BRACKET Q5, everything is perfectly balanced and goes from vertical to horizontal in 5 seconds. You also have easy access to replace the battery in the handle at all times. This is a video solution, not a photo solution. A simple ball head is enough for photography.

@@plastykpl Yes your adapted gear works for you. I prefer to use mainly video heads for stills photography & movie/video filming. Mainly Vinten & Manfrotto. A fluid head is not only necessary for smooth video pans, it also becomes a superb tool for stills photography with a DSLR.
