  • Ahh...consistency. That elusive El Dorado that every golfer searches for, but few find. Well, maybe that's because we're going about it without all the directions.
    There's more to it than just hitting our swing keys every time, and that's what we discuss in this video. The result: getting on the highway to Consistency El Dorado. Also I have some cake. To keep my energy up, obvi.

    WHO IS THIS GUY
    Hey - I'm Manu, a full-time desk-jobber and part-time golfer living in the San Francisco Bay Area. After 23 YEARS of mindless hacking, I finally got my act together and dropped my handicap from ~12 to scratch.
    What I learned is we waste a lot of time at the range, but there are SO MANY THINGS you can do to get big results IMMEDIATELY. And so I make videos to share what I've learned and help you make the journey WAY faster (and with less frustration). Hope this is helpful!

    Another great video Manu. Love that you are targeting those mental topics which no one is really considering talking other than a few podcasts do. Fun way to explain consistency.
    For me a simple and same pre-shot routine with just one swing thought is paramount.
    This game is so much mental that it can drive one to a mental asylum on its worst of days!
    Keep cooking some nice golf cakes Manu !

      @upbeatgolfer  Před měsícem +1

      100% dude! Along with the routine and the swing thought, I think a key point is not letting the less than ideal shots get to you! That's where I think this consistency piece comes in - understanding that it's not only what we did immediately preceding the shot that created the result. Changed my life when I learned that 😅

      @@upbeatgolfer Oh yes! “One thing”for whosoever wants to be a consistent golfer irrespective of their current standings is to “not let bad shots get to you”. One should understand that it’s inherent nature of this game that bad/unideal shots happen even with best of intentions and at most unexpected moments. Take them in stride and just watch how much of a stride your game takes! Your rounds get less fatigued, you are relaxed, scoring comes easy, handicap starts to drop eventually.

    Really enjoying the content, interesting you mention sleep a lot, ironically because of recent treatment I'm only getting perhaps only two hours of unbroken sleep and I'm playing pretty crap, so to reinforce your message sleep / good sleep is vital. Keep the valuable info going

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer  Před měsícem

      Glad you like it! Re sleep - I think it makes a bigger difference to our lives than most of us realize (myself included). I've learned a lot about health recently and found that the majority of things can be solved by sleep, breathing, hydrating, and exercise. (Now I don't want to believe that because it's way easier to just take 26 supplements every day!) But in all seriousness, I think good sleep and creating mental space (when I'm not trying to solve a problem or entertain myself) makes a giant difference.
      I hope you get more sleep soon! And if you're having trouble with continuous sleep, have you looked into polyphasic sleep? Might be a short term option?

    I commented several videos ago about how the flashlight system is a “DECADE-lite” system but I think is a little different than that because it is designed for players other than those just trying to play to scratch or below par!!!
    Also, I LOVE the “flashlights not lasers” analogy!!! Some of these thoughts helped me recover from a disastrous 3 hole “double par” start to my first round of the year to finish the rest of the round playing bogey golf (last year, I finished with a 35 hcp). “A comeback can’t happen without first a letdown!!!”

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer  Před měsícem +1

      That's awesome! Congrats! And now that comeback is in your mental arsenal for next time you have a rough start right?!
      And glad you like the Flashlight Formula! I think it's especially useful vs. Decade when we don't have a perfect idea of what the target area looks like and/or don't have a strong grasp of our own shot dispersion by club. Also it's way faster to calculate so you're not rushed when you finish the Think Box 😃

      @@upbeatgolfer, that's exactly right. This year, my goals are to: be present while golfing, stay present even in the struggles, avoid having more than one swing thought, and instead of trying to play "golf swing" when things go wrong and start trying to "fix" things, just go back to PGA (Posture, Grip, & Alignment) and then play what I have that day.
      The "memory box" after each shot was the biggest deal. I just worked to remember FIRST, whether I followed my process, then stay curious & open. Thanks so much and I can't wait for the next video!!!

      Love that PGA mnemonic! And those sound like great goals - do you track them on a hole-by-hole basis (like on your scorecard or something)?

      Good luck for the season and I'd love to hear how it goes!

      @@upbeatgolfer, after I asked my question above to you, I thought of Vision 54 and have come up with a scorecard that I want to try where I combine their "Joy Card" & "Playing Focus Card".
      For each shot, I'm going to check if I do the following 6 things (1 point for each):
      (1) Use the Think Box,
      (2) experience a "feelings box" where I translate my intentions into feelings,
      (3) PGA - Posture, Grip, Alignment,
      (4) Stance {I have to make sure that I have some knee flex & that I tip my pelvis so that I rotate around my spine - my personal swing issues},
      (5) Play Box - Emotional calm (Just action, no thinking), &
      (6) Memory Box - Did I follow my process or did I get in my head? If I followed my process, THEN I can evaluate results?
      Then at the end of each hole, score my level of joy for a hole-by-hole joy score... We'll see if I can be consistent with using this throughout a round & how effective it is...

    New to the channel. I like it it's fun and informative. If I talk through the shot to myself the way I see it. Then usually good result. But strike for me is my most inconsistent. I'm converting from a pull to a throw. And fat and thin shots are always around the corner. Any drills for a thrower to end these pleasant shots. Lol ty great video

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer  Před měsícem

      Glad you like it, and great to have you here! What do you mean by pull to a throw? Do you mean you're casting the club ahead of your hands at impact?

    • @garyneal4189
      @garyneal4189 Před 29 dny

      Yes. Instead of using left hand to pull club around body while turning the body . Now mostly arms hands ECT. And letting the body follow. But yes casting is probably the proper term.
      I'm not flipping and don't chicken wing. But can't seem to get this sequence dialled.

    • @upbeatgolfer
      @upbeatgolfer  Před 28 dny +1

      Hmm it sounds like you might be getting ahead of your body if you're starting everything with the hands. The goal is to line everything up at impact, but if your hands are outrunning your hips it's really hard to get a good strike. The feel at the top of the swing varies from person to person, so maybe "pull" or "throw" aren't the right words for you. Personally my first downswing feel is a slight squat with the left side. Tiger explains it well in his video where he gives tips to amateurs (czcams.com/video/5obIcxIgvVc/video.htmlsi=N6iwU7hrZuETE_5m)

      @@upbeatgolfer yes that is correct. But not sure how to fix it. Lol on paper it's easy. But some days I get close.
      Physical issues to come into play. But some days are better than others. Tried stack and tilt but knee's won't take it. But ty for the help. I still manage to work around my knee issues. But slowing the arms is definitely helping out. Thx again.

      One thing you could try is pre-loading your weight (say 60-70%) on your right side at address (Jon Rahm does this). Makes it easier to move through the ball. Also if you want, drop me an email at upbeatgolfer at gmail and we can exchange videos.
