Dedicated to the 1,496 souls who lost their lives on April 15, 1912, and to the memory of the 712 who survived.
This animation was created to accompany the 104th Titanic sinking anniversary podcast held on April 14th, 2016.
This is our first full-length animation of Titanic's sinking, beginning with the iceberg collision and ending with its disappearance. This is a complete animation, not a short animation that was slowed down to match real-time. The animation includes text frequently appearing with what is happening onboard the ship. This includes visuals of various interior rooms flooding, lifeboats launching, rockets firing, and the SS Californian on the horizon. The animation was created in Unreal Engine 4. The exterior model used is not our final model but an older model created by our team member Kyle Hudak.
There are many informational messages spread throughout the video, but here are some of the main points to jump to:
0:00 Iceberg spotted.
06:06 The ship has stopped as damage inspections are carried out.
19:41 Titanic stops for the last time.
38:08 Titanic begins taking on a 'starboard list.'
46:23 The first distress calls are sent out.
53:07 Most lifeboats are prepared to evacuate passengers.
1:01:29 Lifeboat 7 [the first boat] is launched.
1:08:02 Officer Boxhall launches the first distress rocket in an attempt to signal the ship on the horizon.
1:36:57 Water is up to the Titanic's nameplate.
2:05:42 Lifeboat 13 cannot release itself as Lifeboat 15 comes down on top of it.
2:22:12 It is now 2AM. The Titanic has 20 minutes left.
2:26:10 Collapsible Boat D is launched.
2:34:01 Survivors distinctly hear 4 explosions from deep within the ship.
2:39:23 All remaining power is lost. The ship breaks in two.
2:40:36 Titanic is gone. Rescuers do not arrive for another hour and 40 minutes. - Hry

My heart just dropped
And at the time NO one expected that too
The screams-
The scariest part for me is imagine being in a life boat and hearing the screams of so many people while you're sitting safely, just for it to go dead silent.
Yes many survivors in the lifeboats were traumatised by the screams of those left on the Titanic as it was going down. I can't imagine how scary it was for those going down with the ship, the loud creaking and breaking noises in the dark of night clinging to their families. It truly is the stuff of nightmares.
And you could do nothing but listen and watch as the silence quickly comes in.
The survivors guilt must have been strong

Over 1500 left on the sinking stern after the ship broke in two . Horrrific !
i've always known this as "a ship hit a iceberg, sank and 1500 people died" story but watching this made me realise the absolute horror these people went through, the human factor of it. i can't help but imagine the people slowly watching the water rising up and crushing their lungs, as they live their final moments

boiler room 6 flooded first, followed by b.r.5 where the crew formed a 'front line' to hold back the water (until the coal bunker wall collapsed) b.r. 1, 2&3 were further back towards the stern and did not flood until the end. your time stamps at 2:52, 4:00, 6:50 and 24:50 are inaccurate. the ship stops moving by captains order, not cause there was water in the engine room. where is your source that the funnels made more smoke (think u mean steam) because of the damage? the leaking compartments were all in the front. who and how did the californian confirm anything at 2:17:44? their wireless and ship were shut down for the night, they didnt even know the titanic sank until the next morning. how many of these time stamps are just made up/guessed? be honest

43:07; at 1222AM Andrews said 1-2 hours was how much time they had; and it was completely gone at 220AM. Under the stress of the situation and predicament, he was very accurate.
He literally designed it
He designed it. And he KNEW, even before that ship made it out of Port in Belfast, it could potentially sink. In my opinion, that's why i believe he chose to Die on the ship, cause he knew he could be held accountable...

What's so terrifying to me is that after 2:39:26 the ship sinks so quickly. It was such a slow and gradual sink for the 2hrs until it plunges down just like that. Idk how to describe it but it just gives such a heavy feeling in my heart, is that just me?
That's my skirt sinking before i sank
Same here
PGSoS Wait, it sinks ? Thanks for spoiling it asshole 😒
PGSoS you see, it went so fast out of nowhere because at some moment the weight of the front side of the boat (that was under water) became too heavy and the boat Sunk front facing down. The ship broke in two with a massive amount of damage, people say that the front of the ship sunk fast because it was with the front down, but when the back sunk under water it was slow because it was horizontal so it probably started spinning around while sinking to the bottom
What happened was because the ship broke in half it had much less mass so the sea took it in tho the position of the halfs are incorrect
It's really scary to see that this "larger than life" ship drowned completely inside the ocean. Sea depth level is insane !!
The specific area where the ship sank was around 2.5 *miles* deep.
Dang right sea depth is insane.
Ironically the part where the titanic sank wasn't that deep.
Try Challenger Deep. 7+ miles down. Titanic is at 2.5 miles. (Jan Griffiths).
Because of Ego of ship creator....
He challenged creator of all
@pratikmitraKIIT God most certainly CAN--and very probably DID--cause or allow the Titanic to sink, because of the blasphemous statement of the man who said He couldn't, and their own arrogance and carelessness in steering the ship.
-
"Pride goeth before destruction...." Proverbs 16:18a.
Years later I keep coming back to this. For me, it’s the terror from 3rd class passengers who were trapped and never made it to the deck suddenly feeling the ship breaking in half right under their feet.
Allah apny hasb sy bechy. ammen
This is why I haven't been able to watch the movie in years. Just the realization of entire families trapped in a hallway, lights go out, cold water laps at your feet, your child crying in your arms.... Gah, I can't.
All those people on board the titanic in 1912 had absolutely no idea that 100 years later, 38 million people would watch an animation of the titanic sinking on something called CZcams... weird
Isn't it crazy to think about? Back then, people wouldn't have even been able to comprehend the idea of a computer or the internet, or that it's now possible to cross the entire Atlantic in a matter of hours without setting foot on a boat.
Just think what’s coming in another 100 years. You’ll be seen as the people 100 years ago.

Heartbreaking. My father had a great-great-aunt who sailed this ship and was going to the US for a few months. She didn't die and eventually came back to the UK. She was a young woman, but never recovered from her experience. This ship, its voyage and what happened to everyone involved, whether they lived or died, and so many did die, has always been so important to me. This makes some sense of it.

The screams, the darkness, and the power cut when ship broke in half.

One of the survivors in a 70s documentary said he will never forget the screaming and also the silence that came after. RIP to all souls lost on this tragic night.
Someone, on a different Titanic video, posted what their grandfather, a Titanic survivor, remembered of that night... the most distinct memory were the screams, and these were screams of people that knew exactly what plans the frigid, dark water had for them... bloodcurdling screams of impending death, times 1500. I do not believe that I have ever known of anything more eerie, haunting, or heartwrenching. Death begged to take those poor people that night - a night so calm and clear that even the captain would remark on such an oddity he could not remember happening in his long career. "11:59pm, Titanic coasts to her final stop." That one line hits heavy.
Cant criticize the crew too much. They had 2.5 hours to inspect damage, send out distress calls, get all passengers out of bed and onto deck, and come to terms with their own imminent demise. That’s a whole lot to grapple with.

*23:00** We are here maintaining a tradition 1912. - 2024. ⚓🚢*
That horrifying, inexplicable feeling I get when I think about how wonderful and glorious this ship was is just unbelievable. All the preparations, the anticipation and awaiting takeoff... And she was down in just a few days, although the actual sinking must've felt like eternity. You might think what would have happened if Titanic has never sank... we would probably know nothing about it. Imagine how many tragedies like this have been prevented in our times. Kinda blows your mind.
This was actually more terrifying than the movie. You realize so many more things, like people were probably still alive in the rooms inside the ship, in the pitch dark when it went down for the last time, and went all the way down with it. Scary af!
Pearl Harbor movie is garbage and very inaccurate but it does a good job showing how awful it is when the ships sink. People trapped in side as the water slowly rises
That’s what I think about a lot, especially down in the depths of the ship in the engine rooms and boilers, you’re just working to keep the lights on and suddenly you’re just left in complete darkness as the ship slips under. Terrifying...
I always think about things like this. Recently my friend who lives in a boat told her Facebook about how a neighbours boat had capsized and the couple got out but not with their cat or dog. The dog was found pined to the roof via the water and got out alive. Same for the cat. Imagine the sounds under the water.
Not fearing potential animals but the lonliness.
Cause many men, women and children probably died alone. Especially the men of women and children who weren't allowed on the life boats.
And yeah the movie may not be entirely accurate my favourite scene is the scene where the band are playing for the final time and they show the montage of the panic on the top deck but how everyone below deck is just trying to accept they're going to be dying tonight and cherish it with their family.
I think I saw someone say their were accounts of the band playing while the ship sank like in the movie and no musician lived.
Fastrocket37 actually, the last part of the movie when the Titanic went vertical. James Cameron was right! According to survivor accounts, after the break up, they said that it went vertical. And almost all survivors said that. The things that are innacurate are:
The first funnel fell to starboard side as survivors say “it produced a wave that pushed collapsible A and B about 50yrds from the ship”. And that could only happen as both collapsibles were on the starboard side
The breakup was infront of the No. 3 funnel then added additional weight causing the decks the No.3 funnel was on to collapse into the sea causing the bow to immediatly let go of the double bottom. Then after that, the sturn started sinking then eventually went vertical then sank to the pitch black ocean floor
Thank you for listening
Edit: i had to fix something that made ni sense
Yeah it's actually a horror story. I want a movie revolving around the Titanic, with less romance and more terror/facts
For me the eeriest part of this is the groaning and the bellowing that’s happening from the ship, especially when it splits in two. Literally feels like the Titanic is a massive creature that’s just slowly dying
@Conner Iosca you asked by reading the comments
@Conner Iosca who the fuck are you lol? how is somebody's random comment related to you and what you want?
@Conner Iosca shut the fuck up
tegdimetihwlil I agree
That is what’s happening, yes
Titanic had approximately 3327 inside and there were 20 life boats which could’ve held capacity of 1178 people. Each boat could hold 65-70 people. However, on most of the boats, only around 20 people launched with it. There could’ve been so much more people saved yet they decided to just abandon them. This is so upsetting(sorry for my bad english)
Man that final scene where the ship snapped in half was really unnerving, really goes to show how terrifying this was.
i just like the fact that there are NO ads.

Those sound effects were completely terrifying, especially the screams in the end. It stressed me the hell out! And the fact this actually happened makes it even more distressing.
Am I the only one here for the 111th anniversary?
You’re so special
This thing is very painful to watch especially when you can't offer any assistance despite seeing thousands of people perishing in some minutes to come. Rest in peace to all Titans, the scream is horrifying.
“What did you do last night?”
“Oh you know, watched the titanic sink in real time.”
Next i am going to watch ' dinasour extinction real time'
And then after that I'm gonna watch Britannic sink real time
Omg, I'm laughing so hard at this comment (and myself) 😁
Thank you for breaking the tension of this video as I scroll through the comments
This is my second time watching, what does that say about me 🤔
lol
everyone’s saying, ‘imagine being a child and knowing your parents are still on board’, but imagine being a parent and knowing your child is still on board.
Anna- Belle, either is horrific.
There weren't very many cases of that if any... all but 1 first class child survived and 100% of second class children survived, and I have a feeling that there weren't that many third class passengers on lifeboats without their children since more children from third class survived than women and men.
Anna- Belle yea, thank you for that missy

I think what sets the Titanic apart in our collective memory from other maritime disasters is that it sunk in such a romantically tragic say - the evening was crisp and still, eerily beautiful, and the ship took over 2 hours to sink.
And to think, if Titanic hadn’t have sunk.. she’d be almost forgotten to history. Either sunk in WW1 or scrapped in the 1930s.
@@lucastaylor2321 I believe there's a ship from the founders era that's still intact today
@@lucastaylor2321 the thing that has always struck me was that quite literally, doing nothing would have saved the ship.
if nobody had seen the iceberg, and they head-on slammed into it, the ship would have crumpled, hundreds would have been crushed to death in a horrible way, but it wouldn't have sank, and instead of 700 survivors and 1500 deaths, there'd be 700 deaths and 1500 survivors.
then it would have limped to drydock, would have served as a troopship in ww1, and as you said, been sent to the breakers not long after had it survived that.
it would be a tradgedy, to be sure, but no more enduring to the public consciousness than any other head-on ship collision disaster. can you think of one? i can't. i mean, i know they happened, and some had a little notoriety, but nothing as big as "the titanic."
certainly nothing with as many animations of its happening as this.
What i think is scary about this is thinking: "i was just on that ship, i was just on that ship a few hours ago, sleeping in my cabin, and now it's gone, it's under me and it's never coming back."
so similar to 9/11 in that aspect. for so many people, the only thing they could say was “the towers are just gone”
its my sleepover and *i* get to choose the movie.
😂😂wowww
I would be like that too but then I’d still wanna be polite to meh guests

Good luck with that. Hopefully when your ship sinks, Hollywood will make a movie about it and make lots of money.

The realistic sound effects make this all the more sad and just straight devastating. R.I.P to all those who were lost.

The metal groaning and screeching so loudly always manages to horrify me, pure nightmare fuel.
One of the most chilling and haunting videos I’ve ever seen. Really does just show how horrible and sad the entire Titanic story truly is 😢
That hurt. Somehow this cut more deeply than the movie, and felt sadder and more real - even though the CG was simple and without people.
One interesting thing I wish the creators had added would've been something, maybe on the side or in a corner, showing a 3D internal image of the ship to give us an idea of the bulkhead compartments filling up with water as the ship sank.
JerekRock W go watch titanic 🤷🏾♂️
What I find fascinating - people only had 2 or so hours to make a decision to get into lifeboats (if they had the choice) and perhaps thought it might not completely sink, but just marooned, partially sunk. But we've known for 111 years what happened as opposed just 2 hours imagine what might happen. I probably would have stayed on the ship, thinking part of it would stay afloat.
Imagine being one of those steerage passengers desperately running up and down the maze of narrow cabin halls deep inside the ship, being lost and unable to find the exit due to unfamiliarity with the layout; all the while everything is severely tilted, the lights are struggling to stay on, and you have freezing murky water up to your knees and rising.
Third class passengers were asked to go to a public room to wait for boarding the lifeboats.
Iambic Pentameter that would be one horrible death ....
@@shadyeissa1150 Except it likely didn't happened.

Ryan Daniel the movie?
Just imagine the panic. The ship is sinking, the lifeboats have all been deployed... You're still on the Titanic, you're already freezing, you're hearing the blasts of the engine exploding, no other boat is in view, the water is rising fast and then...
Lights out.

The titanic sinks with you inside it and as it sinks deeper and deeper your skull is crushed by the water pressure long before you drown

For some reason I am REALLY into the titanic history. I mean it hit an iceberg it sank and snapped in half. I’ve always wanted to animate the sinking of the titanic. All the good models are expensive though. So I have to make my own. Still I keep talking about it and now I’m talking about it now. Ever since I heard about the titanic I have been interested into sinking ships. This is some good animation.
There is something about ship hulls creaking that makes me respect the sheer weight of these behemoths and the power required to move them.
2:38:18 this sound is horrifying. I can't imagine what the real thing must have sounded like especially to all those still on board :'( May they all rest in peace

Fun fact this is almost as long as Harry pottah’s movie(spelled it wrong in purpose)
If that's what helped him to prepare and deal with the knowledge of his imminent death, then I take my hat off to him. I don't think I could have done it - not calm and quiet and dignified.
So eerie, I always get this feeling that its gonna pop back up at the end for some reason. Such a big magnificent ship just swallowed by the ocean, tragic

just imagine being a survivor on one of those lifeboats... having to watch the titanic slowly get absorbed by the water, along with all the people that unfortunately couldn’t be saved slowly waiting for their death...
alexys renee there was actually a man who survived by jumping in the water and started swimming for his life, he eventually made it to land.
That sound while hitting the surface...I always rewind and hear that.
Can you imagine hearing the booms from below as the wreck sank and the stern began imploding. People still in the water would have felt the shockwaves. Very creepy.
@1:10:25 - “Carpathia confirms that it is on its way. It is 58 miles, or 4 hours from Titanic’s position” ... good god only 58 measly miles.... I travel that far every day to and from work! I underestimated how slow ships used to travel back in the day. Makes this tragedy so much more sad... just 58 miles away from safety... holy moly.
Plus help didn’t arrive until 1 hour after the ship sank
A merchant marine captain told me he measured fuel in tons per hour. As in, to go X knots, it's Y tons of oil for the cargo ship he sailed. I was young when he told me and don't remember the exact figures but imagine burning tons of oil to go 20 nautical miles per hour to cross back and forth over the Atlantic.
58 seamiles , not regular miles . one seamile is 1.852 kilometers long , a little more than a regular mile . have fun calculating it :)

The very start of this is honestly scary to think about. Many passengers did not believe the ship was sinking at first. Meanwhile, at around 26:00, if you pay attention to the lights at the bottom right of the ship, you can see them slowly disappear from beneath the water. If only they knew...
Rocket yeah, I caught that too! I had to rewind because I thought I was trippin lol so so sad..
Rooms of the lower class already filling up with water.. =(
A lot of the lower class were locked up until first and second were safe so almost all of them died. I can only imagine what happened to the boiler crew and other crew who worked at the very bottom
