Garret, we used to do something called the wall of sound. we would search the trash to find good but old speakers and mix and match them until we had 40 pairs and we would wire them for 8 ohms. they sounded amazing and went really deep. each speaker was just working a little and with a total of 80 speakers in the living room the distortion was super low. The first time my dad saw it he just thought it was the wall!
I got a passion for speaker collecting in my barn. Just some weeks ago a pair of 40 year old Phillips activ-speaker were given me. Thank you for this idea.
I've seen some awesome CZcams videos where beautiful speakers are crafted right before my eyes! On your channel sir, I am able to see beautiful speakers decrafted right before my eyes!! I'm still trying to determine which I like better!!!
NICE VIDEO, YOU WILL BE BRITTLE AS WELL AFTER 50 YEARS OF WORK TOO. I JUST GOT A PAIR OF OPTIMUS 1B AND THERE IS NO WAY I AM GOING TO USE YOUR VIDEO AS A EXAMPLE OF WHAT TO DO WITH THEM SPEAKERS. HAVE A NICE DAY-GREG
Why would you do such a thing. Young people just don't understand the value of anything anymore. To them everything is replaceable. Well, one of these days people will wish the had things like this that actually work.
I do! I am young, I have a nice Marantz 2270 with Pioneer CS-G9900 speakers. I also collect vintage and modern stereo stuff. I also have some Optimus Mach 3s! This Garret guy is a nut!
i understand this stuff, and i'm younger than garret, i have a nice pair of realistic Optimus 1000 speakers, and despite the stock woofers needing a refoam the speakers still work, and the stock woofers are going to get the duct tape job replaced with foam, either that or i'm gonna put in higher quality drivers, I also have an Optimus system 742, as well as a Realistic STA-85. Yes i have a lot of RadioShack stuff, all my vintage audio equipment is RadioShack, and i love it
That fluffy mess was the electrolytic capacitor you had in you're hand and flicked. It's die-cast aluminium, it's brittle. Typically die-cast aluminium baskets are made much much thicker and very hard to break. I'm surprised a steel basket was not used.
I think my Optimus 50's sound good. After 30 years they still sound good after a re-foam and are almost pristine. Too bad you don't see the value in them.
My idea (just to add on) would be: Small speakers: 2 way for woofer size 4-6.5 inch (4-8 inch if you are using a tweeter that plays really low), 8 inch and above: 3 way. Sealed wherever possible because that provides even, tight bass. Mostly 3 way speakers because of midrange clarity. Ideal speakers (for use types) would be 6.5 inch (8 inch if you are making monitors) for PC 2 way sealed, about 50W rms, for TV 80W rms, dual 6.5 inch woofer sealed or one 8 inch woofer sealed, both can be 2 way if the woofers play high, but for clear sound, ideally 3 way or 2.5 way. For Home Theater use would be 12 inch woofers, 3 way in a sealed box per speaker (maybe ported but tuned really low, like at the lowest possible frequency the driver can play with a flat response to higher frequencies or a little below), 120W rms. For a subwoofer in HT use i'd say a ported design and a 10 inch driver at the very least and at least 60W RMS 150W max. (60W RMS can go a loooooong way!) For a sub in TV use a small 8 inch 60W RMS 100W max sub off to the side will work nicely for a better kick in music For a PC sub an 40W 6.5 inch can work nicely at a desk.
sometime if you have some more unwanted speakers cut a small hole in the top of the box and back it full of m80s or something and put a wick out the top and make a speaker bomb n blow it up with some music on This was cool
Oh and by the way the cap exploded as the amp was still going and speakers went open circuit, at certain frequencies ranges the crossover impedance drops dramatically when no speakers are attached and very large currents can flow through the crossover and the caps in it causing it to overheat and explode. but u knew that hey. also when you blow up the woofers especially with clipping bass the voice coils go near short and smoke and burn this puts great stress on the amplifers output power transistors. This could eventually destroy you're amplifier too..
Eep! My bad about my old comment(s)! Lol This is an awesome video!! It’s as good as all the other ones! But what’s the name of that song? It sounds really cool
is that a Peavey Bandit TransTube guitar amp in the background, those are good amps, i have a bandit 112 sheffield equipped, sounds great and actually can function as a power amp

2:09 Big Fucking Bang Theory

6:59
Those would fetch 300 bucks in todays market. Those cabinets were nice and clean.
I got a passion for speaker collecting in my barn. Just some weeks ago a pair of 40 year old Phillips activ-speaker were given me. Thank you for this idea.
TheLifetimeLegend Before you destroy any speakers do look online and see if any are worth anything.
I've seen some awesome CZcams videos where beautiful speakers are crafted right before my eyes! On your channel sir, I am able to see beautiful speakers decrafted right before my eyes!! I'm still trying to determine which I like better!!!
The Realistic Optimus 1 is the Nokia 3310 of speakers.
kind of weird how people are getting triggered over garret destroying those speakers, it's HIS speaker and its his choice to do whatever he wants
Schyena *YESSIR*
Schyena exactly
The second cap wasn't on the crossover. It blew somewhere around the tweeters!
It was a filter capacitor I believe.
He loves his Radio Shack speakers. He's shown a lot of affection towards a few of them. Those ones actually looked in reasonable condition.
1:41 listen closely and you can hear the circuit coil makin sounds about to blow ^^
i heard the coil playing music too!!!
I would love to have them speakers
Then buy your own.
Mr. Spoilers these are very hard to find I’m still looking though
I Watched this video using your realistic Optimus ones
I love it how u instantly Push in the Dust Caps and shit. its hilarious
Those were worth a few bucks, they had decent cabinets, real veneer, cast basket.
***** Yes, I agree. But a Akai 160W stereo receiver and vintage Optimus speakers is not.
i understand this stuff, and i'm younger than garret, i have a nice pair of realistic Optimus 1000 speakers, and despite the stock woofers needing a refoam the speakers still work, and the stock woofers are going to get the duct tape job replaced with foam, either that or i'm gonna put in higher quality drivers, I also have an Optimus system 742, as well as a Realistic STA-85.

Go fuck yourself
its his and he can do what he wants with it. if hes destroying them they cant be that valuable.
That fluff you picked out of the crossover was the capacitor. lol

early 80's dust. dont breathe this
Will it blend ? That is the question
These speakers are from the 1960s
Those one of them was actually the speaker that was used as a table in the speaker blowouts 2010 video
LOVED IT
That thing you pulled off @ 2:54 is the exploded remains of a filter capacitor.
***** what is up I was the guy with the pretty smoke
electronics for fun Howdy friend!! I see you like making pretty smoke!! ;D
I do too!!
electronics for fun I laughed when you said my name on your video explaining the reason for your pretty smoke.
yeah I didn't think about it until I said it
I think my Optimus 50's sound good. After 30 years they still sound good after a re-foam and are almost pristine. Too bad you don't see the value in them.
lol, my Philips Fw-C399's sound good still after almost 15 years now
I spent 80 dollars on speakers like these and you fuckin destroy good speakers
USSR FAN 10 wasted your money
Herp Derp No, he got a good speaker for his money.
Did he take 80$ from you to get them and destroy them? If no, then shut the hell up.
Glad you destroyed those, saves me from reading about some idiot posting about them in a forum thinking they're good.
Herp Derp Just because you don't like a speaker doesn't make them sound bad.
So what's your idea of a good speaker?
My idea (just to add on) would be: Small speakers: 2 way for woofer size 4-6.5 inch (4-8 inch if you are using a tweeter that plays really low), 8 inch and above: 3 way.

I got a set of these speakers on my computer running through a old realistic radio they sound awesome!!!!!! You made them sad speakers :(

Really the best sounding speakers
6:58?big explosion!LOL!
I was 8 months old when this video released 😭
Why Would You Do This? There good speakers
sometime if you have some more unwanted speakers cut a small hole in the top of the box and back it full of m80s or something and put a wick out the top and make a speaker bomb n blow it up with some music on
This was cool
those are actually decent quality speakers, and they last if you take care of them...I don't understand...
That Music is so cooooolll
No they have choices of impedance on the back as well as 70v
2:28 Realipstick speaker?
Real lipstick speaker.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
These speakers were made in the late 60s, way before garret was even a dream in his daddy's sac.

It sounds so realistic and the quality of it is so good…
I wasn't even a fucking month old when he made this
The terminals don't suck. Their just not meant to be beaten the crap out of with an axe
They don't stay in well.
im going to at least admit im stupid for ruining speakers like he did. im thankful for what i have and im leaving it at that
What's for dinner??? Fried voice coils and capacitors, with a side of woofer cones!
Goodbye vintage speaker. Garret hates vintage speakers.
this went from music to barber shop quickly
The influence of techno and hip hop. Put on some Who. Oh wait a minute. Pete see what you started?!
6:59 Pop!
in 50 years I'm not going to be here...you will and you going to regret it.
He might not even be here in 50 years, so you're falsely assuming stuff.
If you are sick of looking at them in your shop than SELL them on fucking EBAY!!!
Oh, here's the bag of salt!
it just sounds so... realistic.
I have acoustic solutions hifi and speakers and they work really well and the speaker quality on them are brilliant.
i used to have Optimus spkrs, and Mach One's, the Mach 1's were awesome
the fluffy stuff at 2:55 was the cap
Funny stuff....just destroyed $150-$200 worth of speakers.
But are they really that much when he paid 20$ for the pair?
They look pretty similar to the Nova 7's in one of your other videos.
Superior One your comment is 3 days ago your still on youtube? when you said you left youtube
Alonzo Cajigas Well, here's the thing. I stopped making videos. I'm basically just using this account to watch and interacting with my subscriptions.
Superior One oh ok
Oh and by the way the cap exploded as the amp was still going and speakers went open circuit, at certain frequencies ranges the crossover impedance drops dramatically when no speakers are attached and very large currents can flow through the crossover and the caps in it causing it to overheat and explode. but u knew that hey. also when you blow up the woofers especially with clipping bass the voice coils go near short and smoke and burn this puts great stress on the amplifers output power transistors. xD It's a smash video. I like that you actually took the time to click on the video and comment that.
poor speakers😢 Just because they are old doesn't mean you have to wreck them? You could do bass i love you or something that would blow the woofer.
Eep!
My bad about my old comment(s)!
Lol
This is an awesome video!!
It’s as good as all the other ones!

Boom!! 6:58
It's a shame the speakers aren't nearly as shitty as the music coming out of them.
Its always hilarious when you push in the dustcap lol
The song name is turbro
Whatever you do, don't hurt the Peavey TNT! xD
It might explode on him though.
