- Elon Musk caused a stir in the Deaf community by asking if there’s any point to having an ASL interpreter if there are already subtitles provided. Here, we recap what led to his question and some of the other things Musk has said and done regarding Deaf people.

Agreed. Granted I am not deaf, but I am hard of hearing. So, I understand the need for and the right to have accessibility.

Thats one thing really bothers me, and a lot of these Chicago apt complexes will not allow to make apts deaf friendly. Im learning and not all hearing but a lot hearing wants us to live in their world but they don't want to accommodate deaf and hoh. its even got to point in past 4 years my family and I cant get sorenson or any of those companies to call back. Why is this world trying to shut out our community? Does there have to be another DPN to stand up for rights?

I’m hard of hearing and use dual hearing aids. I also sign.
I need captions on to watch TV , especially if the individual speaking has an accent of any kind. My wife doesn’t mind the captions so it is ok for both of us.
As for Elon : he has done a lot with his company but it doesn’t mean he understands everything to do with media.
As for Alex : you said your point really well.
I’ve interpreted in places that also had CART services because many deaf people don’t sign.

I have tried applying his offering work at home. His idea program offered to million canadain and America. Like said 350 deposit you get 5,000 or more every monthly. Blah blah that. Only way he can work with you is through phone calls to training you how to do that stuff doing computer craps. Guess what? When he or one of his trainer worker tries call me to talk me on phone. Or email to me kept said have been trying to contact me so I reply back told him or his team that I cannot communicate through phone call. Only way to do that is texts or email. They just simple stopped not do anything with me. Ignoring me move on to someone else who is hearing that can talk on phone. To me he is biggest a..h... to all our deaf people. He didn't cares about disabilities people. All he cares is getting rich. He love money more than people. That is facts.

My opinion, yes I do dislike MrBeast for one reasons. First reason, I understand he wants help deaf people but he could hurt them, most deaf people not used to hear sounds and noises. That’s the reason why I dislike him I don’t bother him. Love your videos! ❤🤟🏻

Since I don't use this X as Twitter for reasons and who was the former President of NAD by Mr. Owen for a long time with our experience the same before who were the owner Jack Dorsey of old Twitter while was on my old account of Twitter stole it and changed it to someone else who did not have none of them outside of the most recent explain it was not right for discrimination of accessible for the Deaf community services.

Neuralink chip is promising to make deaf hear by bypassing the ear, OF COURSE he is getting on the map of the deaf community. He has a vested interest, and it's intentional!
He knows exactly what he is doing. In no way is he ignorant of anything he says....his previous comments about Mr. Beast and the hearing restoration, his work into the neurolink and saying the next steps are to create vision for the blind (aka: Geordi from StarTrek), and this comment about not needing an interpreter, is all just preconditioning and testing to see the public response to what he already has planned for neurolink, AI with signing, and so forth. When he comments his "thank you for explaining" remarks, he is just placating everyone. He already knows.
Sign languages are many with one spoken English😂 Caption may be in English but language can be from any region.

Captions are not only for Deaf people, they are also used by people learning English or who have a disability and need help processing language. Whereas ASL interpreting is for Deaf people. Also, some Deaf people don't know ASL and they need captions.
Or loss hearing In oldest ppl., too.

I am deaf and I understand sign language interpreter or Subtitles CC so very much interesting. English and Reading are very important for hearing impaired people but other deaf people who don't understand enough.
There is no need Subtitles if sign language interpreter is on video unless if deaf people understand or not.
If video doesn't show up sign language interpreter then please add Subtitles for English.

I'm hearing learning ASL. You can tell Elon doesn't know any Deaf person. Only if every school is teaching ASL to kids. Hearing people mentally like Elon would have been different towards the Deaf Community.

What ignorant Elon is. I am disappointed with him for making comments on ASL. Those hearing people are frustrated with ASL because it looks difficult on them.. and Elon can’t learn ASL. ASL is beautiful and artful language. Subtitles or captions are hard to read while actors or actresses move fast or changing scenes so fast. Often I get lost track on captions. Please Elon plug your ears and read captions yourself and see for yourself. Why you the hearings think best option for the deaf/hard of hearing. Don’t judge us because you lack knowledge of deaf culture.

Cued Speech is the best tool for all deaf children because it’s much better English and easy communication prevents linguistic neglect. I was surprised most people learned cued speech for 2 weeks before teaching deaf children like lightweight.
