- A time lapse movie of highlights from my past six years chasing the Aurora Australis or Southern Lights in Tasmania.
I have been fortunate to witness 65 aurora events during this time, and have spent countless hours under the spectacular southern night sky. Sometimes solo, sometimes with friends, but always in awe.
Thanks to Jo, Carolyn and Kylie for your company.
Special thanks to Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service and the Friends of Maatsuyker Island.

awesone upside in other dimension, a love it, congratulations my friend good job good energy
amazing
Lucky you very impressive time lapse photography you must have put a lot in to it
Giving me Gaia vibes. Amazing 🌸
Mesmerizing beauty thank you
Amazing! It's like looking at heaven!
It seems like the southern lights have more vibrant reds and in general more color than the northern lights. But I know nothing more than what I see on videos of both events. In any case, I really enjoyed your work.
Because you are looking at them more from a distance rather than them being overhead and looking up through them, you do tend to see more colours from the higher altitude lights, rather than just the lower level greens.
So cool
Utterly fascinating.
I decided to go Tasmania since i watched this
I am just astonished. I never knew it was possible to do this. Felt like I was right in the middle of it. Thank you.
This is awesome and thanks to you, I was able to view this exquisite footage.
Thank you for sharing this magnificent view. I really enjoyed it! 😍
Thanks Ani
I can watch without getting bored !
Wow.... the colour... the brilliance....the views.... awesome!
So beautiful! The sky is so clear and unhindered it looks like you could just reach up and easily touch it
Wow, great and amazing photograph...
How did you see the aurora with naked eyes? Thanks for sharing the experiences🙏👍🏻
Thank you for this. You have had many many hours of night viewing to compile this clip.
I have only ever seen a mild version of the aurora australis when visiting Tasmania.
A lot of people don’t even know of it’s existence. Good job 👍

love is an illusion
Not according to 1 Corinthians chapter 13 verses 4 to 8 in the Holy Bible, which reads : Love suffers long and is kind, Love envys not, Love does not parade itself, is not puffed up, does not behave itself unseemly, seeks not her own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil, rejoices not in iniquity but rejoices in the truth. Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.
Beauty surrounds us in the heavens, land and sea, wonders of creation by the will of Divinity. His love is the true way, it will never go amiss, if only we would open our hearts and receive His salvation..."For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life."John 3:16 🕊

Thank You for this I'm glad I found it ! And could you please tell me at just after 5 minutes into the video what is making the blue light right off the shore line . Thank You for your time and have a great day !
Hey Felicia, I’m pleased you liked it. The blue light is caused by bioluminescence, plankton in the water that glow blue when disturbed by the breaking waves.

Shame on me for not thanking you sooner for your answer to my question ! I do try to use manners . I have sent a couple of people to look at your video , one said thank you and called the video "exquisite" . The poor Southern Lights are so over looked . I can't believe how many people don't even know about them but the Northern Lights are on their bucket list I find that odd . Anyway have a great day !
the world only bases judgement from what the TV shows them
free thought is an illusion
incredible, could you say the actual location?
This is incredible. Do you manipulate the colours in any way?
No, no manipulation to the colours, the camera is just far more sensitive to the colours than the naked eye is.
they want us to figure out things they already know to see how old our knowledge is, knowledge is memory
I wish there was an active camera to actually view the southern lights online like you can the Northern lights, I mean get real time views not sped up like this. This video is amazing though (I am on my husband's youtube account).
There have been real-time all-sky cameras at Cressy and one is currently under development at Campania. www.sws.bom.gov.au/Aurora/2/1
Potentially you could see aurora real-time from the Mt Wellington or Cradle Mountain webcams too I guess, but the quality would be pretty poor.
What time of year is best mate. Heading in feb for a month
Hey Tim, auroras can happen any time of year, historically they tend to peak around the equinoxes, but in Tassie viewing is often more dependent on the terrestrial weather (cloud cover) and moon phase. In summer it doesn't get dark until quite late, but by February the nights should be starting to lengthen again. The local aurora FB group is a good guide to when chances may be good to catch one.
1 question… does the water have phytoplankton? Cuz it seems to get bright blue as a wave approaches
Yes, yes it does. We get quite a bit of bioluminescence, it’s pretty special to see under the aurora, and a mind bending experience to kayak in it after dark.
@@jamesstone76 Where was this?
@@madhumitharamachandran2649 Various locations, all around SE Tasmania.

When is the best time to go see. It down there?
Aurora can occur at any time of the year, but at present the sun is extremely quiet (maybe 2 Aurora’s in the past 12months) so it’s never guaranteed. Then you have cloud cover, moonlight and whether it occurs during the hours of darkness to add to the complexity.
I find that the Northern Lights are more beautiful.
@@daisychain3007 why is that?
Northern lights and southern lights are similar phenomena?pls explain.
Exactly the same phenomenon, just at the other end of the planet.
can we see them with our naked eyes?
Absolutely. You can see all the form, structure and movement, just not the colour.
I know it was all fake
