Little Blue Penguins Released in New Zealand

  • Rehabilitated Little Blue Penguins released at Mt. Maunganui, New Zealand on November 22, 2011 after being cleaned of oil at the Rena spill. The 49 Penguins were oiled at the October spill from the grounded cargo ship Rena. The birds were set free after rescue and rehabilitation by emergency response teams, including International Bird Rescue, organized through Massey University's New Zealand Wildlife Health Centre on New Zealand's North Island.
