How to Know You're From the Midwest

- Do you use corn for directions? Is "Ohhhp" a word in your dictionary? Do most conversations you have start and end with the weather?
If you answered yes to any and all of these questions, you are DEFINITELY from the Midwest! Whether you're scarfing down hot dogs at a BBQ every weekend, refusing to make two trips to bring in all the groceries, or apologizing to inanimate objects after accidentally bumping into them...this is the video for you!
Comment below with your favorite Midwestern things!
Walking by someone and doing the half-smile. LOL, that is me every time
That's like a global white people thing. We do it in South Africa and the indigenous people think it's weird AF.
That's funny, I was born and raised in NE Iowa and never saw that until I moved to Texas. I always thought that people in the Midwest tried to avoid eye contact with strangers, I guess they think you're going to ask them for money.
Being from the Midwest is definitely a culture unto itself! It took me a long time to realize that but all I have to do is step outside the Midwest or meet someone whose not from here for the stares to start. Lol
I live in Kansas. When the tornado sirens go off it’s time to go visit with the other neighbors coming out to look at the sky.
ALWAYS 😂
Or make a social call on the neighbors with a basement (WI).LOL
I live in Kansas, too. You can't go to the basement, because then you can't see what's going on!!! And in Topeka, KS, where I've lived for 22 years, the tornado siren simply means there is a tornado on the ground somewhere MORE THAN 40 MILES AWAY!!!!! Truth!
I've lived in both ends of the state (east and west), and places in between, but I don't recall going outside and talking to neighbors. Storm chasing is pretty scary though.
Maybe it was just noon… ya know?
Apologizing to the door that you walked into, yup, been there done that. Ope...
All. The. Time. 😂
That's how Max Baer got the part of Jethro on Beverly Hillbillies---after drinks with "Granny."
Ha! The tornado siren is so true. We do go out to watch it. We also go out to watch blizzards. I remember when I was young, my grandparents had put a screen all the way around the front porch just to sit out and watch heat lightning.
Being from Ohio and moved to North Carolina for nine years, it was really a huge culture shock. Then I moved to Indiana and have discovered that even in the Midwest, each state is a culture unto itself. And this is how we have snow days...
There are so many rules for the Midwest, but this is my favorite....if the Principal can get out of his driveway, then we still have school. You should do one on Midwest Rules. One of them should be "coleslaw is a side dish, not a sandwich topping".
the "no worries" and the "Ope" is 100% legit midwestern politeness
Replace the ketchup with ranch
Ranch is like a pair of pliers. You can use it on almost anything
Idk, I'm keeping with Ketchup!
When I travel, people will ask where I'm from, and when I say "Minnesota", they say, "I thought so, I spotted the accent."
And, I'll think or say "what accent? I don't have an accent!"
Minne-SOH-ta 😂😂😂 It's okay, I feel your pain!
I get it too from Michigan here
I grew up in North Dakota, now living in New Jersey. For me, I get, "you from Canada?" :O

I’m from Ohio and this is so accurate is hurts! I love this Midwest.
Same here. Pretty sure that was me at the 1:32 mark.
Raised in SE Kansas live in KCMO, damn near everything on here is relatable. So glad to hear you say Pop!
ha! being from the midwest I didn't even catch that. guess i'll have to rewatch!
This video makes me feel personally attacked🤣🤣
Minus ketchup it’s dead on 🤣🤣
Just not on hot dogs 😂
Yup, the ketchup thing almost made me not subscribe.... almost..... other than that 10/10
@@caitlinhendricks6848 So Your From Chicago?
That part of going outside during a tornado warning is so true 😅
I'm with you: 48 degrees is T-shirts and shorts weather! And sometimes, the inanimate objects do get out of control!
I recently moved from Buffalo, New York where I completed my grad school to Naperville, Illinois and I must say that the people here are really welcoming and nice , I really loved this video
Been here in Naperville since 1982.
Yes I tell how cheap all my stuff . Lol 😂
Greetings from... Poland. Which (after watching this quite funny movie) I can surely say... appears to ba a Midwest of Europe.
Oh my gosh I love this comment so much!
A lot of midwesterners have Polish roots 😊
It's "excuse me while I just skooch past ya." 😉
I’ve traveled to 4 states in the Midwest and people for the most part have a generic accent just like you guys. I’ve grown up in Dallas and sometimes people with a Southern accent ask me where I’m from because I too, have no accent and when people asked me where I’m from in the Midwest they’re shocked to hear I’m from Dallas. I’ve met a number of Chicagoans and they’re pretty chill. From my understanding people from the Midwest love Ranch dressing, is that true? Cheers you guys!
This makes me strangely proud to be a Michigander. 😎 I didn't realize all the Midwest mannerisms I have until i was older. 😂
Most of these could describe the town i live in… and I live in southern VA! Even the comments about ranch hahaha
the accent thing is so true, there's nothing like constantly being told you say words wrong then not being able to tell the difference when they explain the two ways to say it.
I am from downstate. I think there, its butter on everything vs ketchup. After living in San Francisco area, I think the "no worries" comes from there more. Thank you for your creativity and humor. Remember, "Look out for deer!"
If you love no nonsense shoes, false sincerity, competitive, humility contests & whispering The Middle is the place for you OH & creativity is only what people do when they are thirsty for attention.
Bring the Family 🎉
What's with the ketchup?
Are you out of Ranch?
If you're truly from Chicago you don't even have ketchup, we put mustard on everything that's the German/polish heritage
Friend 1: Wassup?
Friend 2: Nothin'
Friend 3: Yea, got time to kill.
Friend 4: *produces a deck of cards* Euchre?
48 degrees is shorts weather in the spring
Blizzard day...let's go to the mall. Stay behind the snow plows.
Oh I gotta get back for the weather 😭😭😂😂😂
Too funny. And very accurate!!
KCMO suburbanite here. Big nope to the ketchup. Where’s the ranch?
Big yes to the sirens. If it isn’t pelting hail yet and there’s no debris there’s time to go take a look. We don’t go to the basement until the weatherman points out our neighborhood on the radar
I’m around 15 miles from the south shore of Lake Superior and, yes: “float copper” really IS a thing! 😄
I have lived for over 20 years in the Midwest (Indiana). The ketchup bit didn’t land with me, at all. Haven’t seen that and don’t know anyone like that.
I’ve been in the Midwest even longer than that so maybe it’s just a my family thing 😂
@@caitlinhendricks6848 my family consists of a bunch of ketchaholics!! we got some ranchers and some mayonatics and barbequties too lol. But the ketchup love hits home.
My brother, growing up, was a ketchup freak. Could never stand it myself. I'm more of a mustard freak. Even he no longer has it on everything.
I'm from Pittsburgh, PA and we are...Weird. Being at the "crossroads" of the Northeast AND the Midwest, AND the South (A few miles from the Mason-Dixon line) AND Canada! We have a Hodge podge of these linguistic things, BUT a majority IS "Midwest" with the other's thrown in. For example the sandwich IS a "Hoagie" BUT the drink is "Pop". In Philly, "Hoagie" is valid "pop" is NOT. We also do this thing that seems to be a Midwest (Great lakes?) thing where we add "the" to the start of a store's name AND often an unnecessary "'s" at the end: "Giant Eagle" becomes "The Giant Eagle's". an Eastern Ohio version makes "Kroger", "The Kroger's" It's a subtle thing, But I notice it! BTW, read the label of yinz's Ketchup bottle, LOL
I know someone is from Chicago when they say pop
I am from Chicago and we called it soda or "soda pop," but never "pop."
@@elultimo102 everyone I've met and I'm from Milwaukee so I've met a lot of people from Chicago and all of them call it pop
What else would you say??
@@mirrorblue100 soda
@@elultimo102 I'm from the NW suburbs...everyone out here says pop
As a Midwesterner, I didn’t hear “no worries” until I lived in the Bay Area.
I’ve never been to the Bay Area in my life, and I say it all the time. NW Indiana.
@@venomlink2033 Yes, thank you for letting me know. I wonder if California culture has influenced the younger generation. I would say that if you are under fifty years of age, you would probably note the difference. If you are under 50, the influence of air travel, and the internet, would affect cultural verbiage. I think this is also why more upper midwesterners cuss more than they did in the 70's or 80's. It's just an observation.
I'm from the bay area 😂🎉
yes the winter and construction joke lmao
Portillo’s. Awesome!
Walking out and checkin' the sky during the tornado siren is dead on...lol
But first, don't you think what day it is, and then remember, "oh right, it's noon on Wednesday, that's just the alarm being tested"?
Where’s your Ranch? Go Hawkeyes!!!
Everything is true except the Ketchup on everything. Even more then Hotdogs. It goes on a lot but not everything. Great video!!!
I eat it on scrambled eggs, chilli and spaghetti
I’m from the widest and I don’t think I ever relised how much of a stereotype it can be. 😂
That’s how give directions we describe things we love road trips. I love extra ketchup
Mmmmm, Mac and cheese…..with a side of tater tot casserole?
YUM
"What kind of pop do you have'!!!! LoLing...Yep.. We still call it PoP, up here in Northern Wisconsin...
Except for pop, tornado sirens, and ketchup this is like New England too!
LOL! “ Taking the kids to the Dells” 😀
Indiana says howdy to my Midwest brothers and sisters love you crazy Midwesterners. And Casey's has the bestest cheeseburgers and pizza ever now that's some good goings ons.

So relatable it makes me uncomfortable lol coming from roscoe illinois
Yes
I'm from the Midwest, I don't put ketchup on everything, but the rest of it tho 👍
Born and raised in KCMO metro I relate to a lot of this lol
I feel called out 🤣
Fries & Ranch Mmm. Yum.
I'm an Ohioan and good lord, did I feel this.
lol, apparently this transcends locality, hello from Md.
P.S. The ketchup thing in the comments, there must be some really young people commenting. Ok, from Western Ohio, ketchup was used for french fries, hot dogs, hamburgers, bologna sandwiches, eggs, meat loaf and steak.
People also ate cow tongue, cow liver, cow heart and cow kidneys. My grandfather, a 5th generation German-English Mennonite/Quaker/ Church of the Brethren/Nazarine American Ohioan, loved pickled pigs feet and cucumber pie. He made made homemade noodles. And farmers in Ohio had piles of manure as lawn ornaments and you knew what time of the year it was by the smell in the air.
Yep, the “oop, sorry”.
I grew up in Han(g)over Park / Schaumburg ... there were a few you missed but they might be "age restricted" if people understand them. Hey hey!!!!
Glad you escaped. Chicago blows and I'm not talking about the wind
U got ketchup mistaken for ranch
OMG! I didn't realize I WAS THAT MUCH of a Midwesterner!
Winter and construction...hehehehehehehe......tornado siren? I don't see anything....
Grab the camera, Tom Skilling will love this!!
Dear God this hurts how true it is.
Are they really this nice? If so, I gotta move lol!
Up until about 5-6 years ago, no one said "No worries". It was always "No problem" or "No big deal" perhaps "Don't worry about it." Was it the Lion King revival that brought about the no Worries/hakuna matata thing?
People up here are so reserved. It’s the fucking twilight zone. I hate it
Raised in Indiana now I live in Duluth Minnesota lol this is rich
Everything is pretty accurate except for the ketup part...I don't understand that at all. Whenever the sirens go off in our town during the day, and it's clear skies, it usually means fire or medical emergency, I'm from a really small town in NE.
That depends on what state you are in. Ketchup in my neck of the woods was specifically for meat loaf, french fries, hot dogs, hamburgers and for some people, eggs.
@@moorek1967 Don't forget Ring Bologna, Fried Potatoes and Onions.
Hahah the dells!
Me watching midwestern videos to see if I really do seem like I’m from the Midwest bc I now live in Mississippi
"46... Fahrenheit? Tuu blaaszinh; hotesst tolrabl degree issz 32 Fahrenheit far mj riemaininh skinn."

Air raid sirens 🚨
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Southern Ontario is exactly the same|
Which cornfield you talkin' 'bout?✌️😆
Tired of fast food, let's go to Portillos!! LOLOL,
To be absolutely fair, it's not fast food. It's food that's almost healthy enough to pass the nagging boomer wife test. That salad, has pasta in it...but is it a pasta salad? No. Pure health. The hot dog has be drug through the garden. Practically youth inspiring. Hell, they got a chicken breast sandwich that's just a grilled chicken breast. Need I say more?
On the subject of food in general. It's not a steak if it's less than 12oz. In fact, I have 2 Mom n Pop places near me that make 12oz a Ribeye steak sandwich. Also, My daughter Liz lives in Tulsa OK now. Our first stop after picking Liz up from O'Hare is Portillos. That's my Girl!!
@@SlavicCelery Despite your true and insightful comment, I now have a taste for 2 chili dogs and an order of cheese sticks.
Everybody knows but yeah you're right witches....🤔.
But...
I don't know why they're doing it....
You say youre from Midwest but yont mention Euchre
At 1:32. I have the best slight-nod-hello. That’s why I hate masks.
Why did youtube recommend this?
In the video they say they are from Chicago thats in the Mid East.
sorry ... Hoosier here that transplanted to Florida first (jeepers) ope, sorry bout that. Then on to South Carolina. They're much friendlier here. Sorry
Previous was not a dig just funning you
mid western
319 Iowa City up in this bitch
If you agree with everything else, but are disgusted about the ketchup part, you’re probably from Chicago.
the audio quality is terrible
I don’t think I’m that Midwest..
Not ketchup should be ranch
Ketchup?? Bring on the ranch!! Only if it's homemade
Damn, shes a babe 😍
Shes an absolute keeper 😍 so hot, dangerously hot!
how rude
Would've been great except the whole 'ignorance' to veganism/vegetarianism.
I am not vegan/vegetarian, but still: it makes it look like we mid-westerners aren't educated in different beliefs/values.
