Long story short is a perfect phrase that shows the accountability and acknowledgement of earlier actions, but doesn't dwell long enough to ruin the rectifications and the positive choices of the now. This is my favorite song from Evermore for exactly the reason you so eloquently explained. She acknowledged the negative times in her life and took accountability for her poor decisions during them, but then she used those situations to learn how to love in a healthy way; not just love the right guy, but to love herself and her life.

When I listen to this song I like to think that it’s about finding your self love. Even though Taylor Swift makes it to believe that she found the wrong guy but then found the right guy, I can’t help but think that she echoes the same message as Out of the Woods where she fell in love and lost someone but then found herself and it was everything. I think this song really shows this ongoing journey of finding and loving yourself.
