@@samuelguzmann Je pense, qu'il y a beacoup de personnes qui ne parle pas francais en europe. For example, me as a German native, I do only speak a very little and also just because I had to take French classes in school. Nevertheless, French is probably the second most important language in Europe - after English. Probably, third place is occupied by German due to being spoken in at least three countries and the importance of Germany in economics and politics. I assume that the fourth place goes to Italian due to their population and also their political impact... This is really interesting if you consider that, from a world-wide perspective, Spanish is more important than French, German and Italian combined. Maybe, one day, I'll start practicing this one... But it is so fast. (German is usually spoken in a rather slow fashion.) Why am I writing this here?
I love the respect Tarantino has for foreign languages. I don't speak German, Italian, Cantonese or Japanese so I can't confirm those passages, but whenever they speak French it feels like it could have been a French movie.

Just lazy writing on Tarantino's part to be fair. They knew without a doubt there will be Gestapo at the premier and her injury was bound to raise questions. Anyone with half a brain would at least try and come up with a detailed story to cover it up. However, the Basterds are just a band of dumb psychotic yankee war criminals, so they didn't bother.

He learnt what he had to for the role but doesn't actually speak Italian. But that just underlines how good of an actor he is as he seemingly even fooled actual Italians into believing it. I speak French and Spanish as second and third language. Understanding some Italian comes free with that. Actually speaking it is entirely different though. Even more so as I'm German and we tend to butcher that language upon trying to...
David Lee That’s the fun thing about languages. Only those who learn them as mother languages will ever truly be able to manipulate them so greatly. People learning afterwards don’t have he instinctive understanding necessary to truly butcher the language. It’s lovely
Christoph Waltz really deserved an Oscar on this one he truly does an impressive job not only speaking multiple languages but also staying always on character making us the audience hate him and love him at the same time. Not enough credit is given to Diane Kruger in this role. Her facial expressions and mannerisms are absolutely spot on as a fish-out-of-water movie star working as a spy. Just the right amount of uncomfortableness and fear in her performance.
Yep. Mocking them in all in such a sly, yet obvious manner. Flaunting his superiority, his power, but not in such a way as to spoil the game, alert the others around them. Landa is easily Tarantino's most fabulous villain, possibly his best character and the most captivating performance in any movie of his.

Waltz is such a great and intelligent actor. When he begins to burst in laughter it was as though he had been actually holding in the chuckles until he broke his grip. Thus making it more believable and his hysterical pop was that much more satisfying. Small details like this in a slew of multiple acts in his role here are what go a long way to building his performance.
I love how he compliments Decocco because he's the one who actually did a good job pronouncing his name. Landa was just having too much fun trying to school them. Also, although the whole scene was hilarious, that "arrivederci" from Brad Pitt made me lose it in the theater.

Landa's hysterical laughter, to me, spoke of his disappointment. He knows that she was in Paris the day before, as that was when the pub shootout took place and her autograph was found. He expected her to pull out an extravagant and well thought out excuse, and she disappointed him. XD

Contrary to popular belief, Christoph Waltz do not speak Italian. He learned the script for the movie. Actually he made a mistake here. At 3:37, he said "...vorrei propio sedire" (to sit down). It should be "vorrei propio sentire" (to listen). But take it from a native Italian speaker, his intonation and accent is impeccable. What an actor. Bravo.
At 1:40 I think Lada is asking von Hammersmark why she commited treason. The blank face after the question and Hammersmark's "hmm" give me the sense that they both know what's going on, and Hammersmark tries to excuse her behaviour by saying that she'll never do it again. I think the moment Lada begins laughing that hard is the moment she knows he knows and her mannerisms change from big gestures and smiles to more understated ones, so it would make sense for her to try and save her skin. She keeps the farce just for appearance until Lada says he's only joking, which she believes, perhaps attributing her lack in judgement to understandable paranoia. Just for it all to fall apart seconds later again. Maybe all of this is obvious, but I haven't seen anyone talk about it.
The moment Brad Pitt said buongiorno with his really heavy American accent (which also means good morning and not good evening) I laughed so hard. "Correcto" even better. And that Marlon Brando face, hilarious.
very time consuming, a comedy club must be a mosh pit of people keeling over and running away laughing only to fight their way back to their seat and do it all over again.
Fun facf: Waltz' laughter was not scripted but just happened on accident cause he couldnt hold it in.😂 But the filming wasnt halted and everybody just took it. Tarantino found it so hilarious that he let it slip and put it in the movie. Good thing on Quentin, now we have this legendary moment .

@Aaliyah Kruger exactly. I mean, we do that sometimes, but not every time we talk. we use it when we say something like "what the fuck are you saying" or something like that, but it makes sense only if you're speaking italian

It was a beautiful moment, suspenseful and hilarious at the same time

(German is usually spoken in a rather slow fashion.)

Just lazy writing on Tarantino's part to be fair. They knew without a doubt there will be Gestapo at the premier and her injury was bound to raise questions. Anyone with half a brain would at least try and come up with a detailed story to cover it up.

It’s lovely
Im italian and i can assure everyone when i say that he is reaaaly good in speaking it
Christoph Waltz really deserved an Oscar on this one he truly does an impressive job not only speaking multiple languages but also staying always on character making us the audience hate him and love him at the same time. Waltz is such a great and intelligent actor. When he begins to burst in laughter it was as though he had been actually holding in the chuckles until he broke his grip. Small details like this in a slew of multiple acts in his role here are what go a long way to building his performance.
