Sheep: they are so fuzzy and cute. Sometimes they can even be metal. They're also pretty funny in my opinion.
And hebridean sheep are the most metal sheep of all! Pitch black complexion and four sharp black horns, reminiscent of Baphomet or Azazel. I have a character that’s a fungoid being with a shape between a Hebridean sheep and a goat, and large sigils, being a direct homage to the devils Baphomet and Azazel in many ways.

I think underwater animals are very underutilized. They may not look very cuddly but they lend themselves to some really creative and epic designs!

My antro-octopus oc can change the color of their skin depending of the mood, underwater furries are so underrated...they, like, an aliens for the popular types of furries

I think anthro bugs in general are very under appreciated. I know moths are very popular but I think ants and maybe even caterpillar inspired sonas would be cute! Caterpillars are so chubby and goofy, they would make a great sona :D

Invertebrates have the most potential out of any animal group to come up with something amazing; yet people sleep on a gold-mine of possibilities. I would kill to see a lacewing, a candy crab, an orb weaver spider, or one of the many wasps and beetles there are…endless options
I made a species called Scruffigators that are essentially fluffy alligators. Stand up more like dogs but have stubby legs and have tails that range from short to really long. They have different snout shapes along with jagged jaws. They’re growing pretty popular
My Fursona version of myself is a Pomeranian dog. They aren't commonly seen. I chose a Pomeranian dog because i had a dog that was a Pomeranian and we were so much alike. His favourite food was cheese and my favourite food is cheese. He didn't really play with toys and loved watching shows I like watching such as My Little Pony. He had brown fur and I have dirty blonde hair that is basically a type of brown if you think about it.
He died in 2019 due to old age and he's my inspiration for my Fursona version of myself. A brown female Pomeranian Fursona is adorable if done right.

I'd say insects in general. I feel like most people stay away from them because they can be creepy but if you do it right they can be really cute. One of my sonas is a moth and I think he's the cutest thing ever!

Okay here me out…scorpions and goats…. Scorpions have multiple arms and I like the idea of the scorpions tail and gout have the little or long beards and they have little tails with small or big horns and I think you can add little hoofs :]

I def agree on the bats! One of my first ever ocs was a Fruit Bat with a leaf nose! I also think rodents (like opossums, sugar gliders, and squirrels) make for such cute anthros!
Something I don't see enough is the wonderfully complex simplicity that is the Chimera. Basically just take whatever sort of parts you want and mix them together! Do you want hooves? Sure do you want avian arm talon things? Go right ahead! Do you want insect antenna and a lizard tail? Go wild!
I have a species called Raq (rack) that I created, they're anthro owl like creatures with large extravagant antlers and masks that range from circles to diamonds to hearts, they also have large bird like tails that range from pecock like to similar to birds of paradise to tails like swallows

Avians are always a fun subsection of the community, and there's a whole assortment of bluejays and their songbird cuteness, and ravens with their edgyness, but what about Vultures? They're gruff and a little bit icky but also wholesomely adorable and really smart... Kinda the dad bod of birds NGL.

Yeah they are basically Bunnies with antlers but you can be creative. My oc (Chris) has the body of a Rabbit with the horns and color palette of a deer.

Goats and snakes. I know the body plan of a snake is the part that trips people up, but I know we can get creative with it. I have seen a concept for fursuiters where you have a long dress to hide your legs and a long tail dragging behind, and I want to see more people do cool shit like that! And also goats are metal as fuck. They can be cute, or they can have that spooky cool goth energy. Heck, they can be both!

I think bunnies are my favorite since they are really cute and I have noticed the only few that are made are usually more realistic or mostly head and paws. I would love to see more people making bunny suits.
Seals are definitely underrated... they are really cool animals.
I think people dont like them becuase of the lack of external ears.
We could always use more spider furries, but one species I hardly ever see is seals. The only characters I know that are seals are Havoc and Bridget from an old Sega Genesis game, High Seas Havoc

I have a llama/alpaca fursona! (she can be drawn as either species, since they're very similar visually and I like them both and couldn't decide, lol). I'd love to see more llama/alpacas around!
Few more underrated ones: hippos, fish, accurate birds, boars, a peryton (mythical creature) or gryphon would be cool, creepy crawlies (not the cutesy insects, the real freaky dudes), and monkeys
Actually made mine as an “infected” species, basically just giving darker shading on the end of its limbs and tail, as well as out of its eyes.

Butterflies, if you try to find them, all you will find are background butterflies and humans with butterfly wings (which at that point are just fairies)

Fungoid beings. Criminally underrated, massive potential. Can be combined with various other things, and can have a broad-brimmed-hat-like cap, and being fungi, are totally androgynous. (Interesting bit of trivia: Fungi have over 10,000 genders.) I have a character that is somewhere between a Hebridean sheep, Icelandic goat, and red kangaroo. Fungoid being. Four horns. Sigils on front, back, and side of either thigh. A direct homage to Azazel and Baphomet, being androgynous, four horned, and goat, as well as having their respective sigils. Blood red and mold black are the colour pallet. I call the species “Fungioat” and this one “the destroying Angel”, after the poisonous fungi by the same name.
I also have a death’s head moth / Hebridean sheep character as well, known as Baphomet.
Red pandas: absolutely adorable and unique design, you could change em to your favorite color too

Honestly I rarely see birds, or any feathery furry species other than ones on VRC like Kita’Vali (which I love and rarely see those also).
Rabbits/bunnys i never saw and like you can have so many ideas for that big ears you can have them look down or up and then the lil tail and so much creativity can come to your mind

Hey guys, did you know that in terms of male human and female Pokémon friendships, Vaporeon is the most compatible Pokémon for humans? Not only do they have soft pettable skin, Vaporeon are an average of 3”03’ tall and 63.9 pounds, this means they’re large enough to be hugged nicely, and with their impressive Base Stats for HP and access to Acid Armor, you can be tight and squeezy with one. Due to their mostly water based biology, there’s no doubt in my mind that a happy Vaporeon would be incredibly good at hugging, so good at hugging that you could easily have hug one for hours without getting sore. They can also learn the moves Attract, Baby-Doll Eyes, Captivate, and charm, so it’d be incredibly easy for one to get you to hug it. With their abilities Water Absorb and Hydration, they can easily recover from fatigue. No other Pokémon comes close to this level of huggability. Also, fun fact, if you hug it enough, you can make your Vaporeon turn white. Vaporeon is literally built for hugging. Ungodly defense stat+high HP pool+Acid Armor means it can take hugs all day, all shapes and sizes and still come for more

I think we need some more custom/fantasy species. I've recently been reasurching Arodragons (Airplane dragons) for a character I want to make, and I think more people should look into these guys. They're a very interesting concept that should be looked into more❤

When I heard spider I thought of Angel Dust
I was making an anthro-esc character. There are probably a lot like it, but it’s a cat-spider demon. It looks like an anthro cat, but it’s got six eyes, six arms, and two legs. His name is lucky.
My partner also created an anthro character that was kind of like dinosaur- ish. But also dragon-esc. And their name is wren.
