- The Albatross!
This felt much more like one of my old-school videos. It’s weird to call any of my content “old School” but it has been more than 3 years since the channel started. There really isn’t any content about albatrosses on CZcams, so I hope people are interested in this animal. On the other hand, maybe they’re not, and this video will become my own personal “Albatross” viewership-wise.
Music was not made by Dara Hughes this time, instead, it is this great royalty-free track here on CZcams. • Deep Blue - Calming Oc...

I was being tongue in cheek: that is not my actual house
What? No way!
You probably should've mentioned that m8.
The rent must be astronomical!!!
Animals that own a niche so hard they usually die of old age sounds like a fun series.
yeah , swifts , blue whales and killer whales are probably also in that category ...
as well as likely the queens of eusocial insects ...
The amazing thing about Wisdom is that she is still raising chicks with no signs of slowing! She has revealed to us that albatrosses are not only long-lived but also remain fertile for a long time. That's probably how the birds work around having a very slow breeding cycle.
what a beast

Wow, I actually didn't know that! Amazing!
Albatrose named Wisdom is 70 years old....Ya, that is quite fitting
The ever beautiful Wisdom 🥰 is at least 73 as of this year's return to the nest. I'm 70 and she was ringed before I was born!!!
I saw an albatross while puking on a boat once. Unforgettable experience for multiple reasons, but I couldn’t get over just how huge it was compared to other sea birds!
It was The Rescuers that first got me interested in these beautiful birds. It was the perfect choice to have the albatross be the "airplane" for the mice. He also had to get a run for take-off, and he crash-landed every time coming in! Albatross are the best gliders, but quite terrible at landing and walking.
Yes! Same for me. I watched rescuers 2 so many times as a kid. Such a beautiful movie
If you live in a house like that, why is this museum on a budget??
Have you seen the economic state of the world😂
Because he's the butler 😂😅
Spent all the money on the house, no money left over for the museum.
Act broke to stay rich

What magnificent creatures, and what a magnificent existence.
Thank you for showcasing this creature, because I do not think I would have given them a second thought.
The ever beautiful "Wisdom" 🥰 is at least 73 as of this year's return to the nest. I'm 70 and she was ringed before I was born!!!
I feel like the albatross is the closest living thing we have to a pterosaur.
I agree, I knew they were big but not having 3.5 meter wingspan! Incredible!
This was way cooler than I expected. So glad I clicked.
As an Albatross, I approve this video ☮️🤘🏾🌊🕊
As a video, i approve you Albatross
Wisdom is amazing! That blew me away. I wish I was an Albatross.
love these creatures- I watch the New Zealand Albatross nesting cam, it is really awesome. Also used to go to Kauai every year and would go to the bird sanctuary to watch them-from a distance- nesting/resting on the cliff side. thanks!!
If I saw a baby hatching from an egg, all I’d be able to think of is how such a little thing can grow into a fascinating specimen of aerodynamics
Albatrosses are cool and so are your videos
I am a planeologist and an airbus and a biplane have approximately nothing in common aside from the fact that they’re both fixed winged aircraft.
Albatross' graceful soaring is calming
I don’t know what to call your unique sense of humor, all I know is that it’s the best way to learn about nature.
The albatross has my favorite love story in nature. Partners for life, spending almost all year apart but coming to the same spot every year for a few weeks to reaffirm their bond and raise a chick.
I’m in college for my BS in wildlife care, and my biology course project I chose to do on short tailed albatrosses. The incredible adaptations they’ve made to become the masters of the skies (I wrote this a millisecond before I heard you say almost the exact same thing in the intro lmao) are like the most successful examples of evolution. You see a lot of animals that develop so far into a specific niche then as soon as their habitat is altered they immediately go extinct, but albatrosses adaptation is the perfect blend of specialization of locomotion combined with generalization of acceptable food. Basically anything that lives near the surface of the water is fair game for them. The only real thing that could kill them off is losing their breeding islands.
What a gorgeous video. I just stumbled upon this somehow. Your mix of humor and fact and earnestness is excellent. I have always loved learning about our natural world, animals in particular. The albatross is a mighty creature, and although I thought I had known and respected the albatross before watching your video, I cannot tell you how much more I do so now, afterwards.
10 years ago I went vactioning to the beaches of Acapulco
It was a windy, sunny day, perfect for going to the shore and dwelling on the beach
But my dad had another idea, because the hotel we booked in that week had a pool in the roof
So we took the elevator and went to the 16th floor. When we got there, my life was changed forever
A bird, whose size dwarfed every other bird I've seen to that day, staring at me from the other side of the floor, peacefully, but intensely, as if it was scrutinizing my soul
The albatross then took flight, spreading its wings, and letting the wind carry it to its fate
Many more of them soared above me that weekend. Their huge shadows letting me know they were there
Idk if there's a culture who have assigned them some significance, but since that day, for me, Albatrosses are the birds of peacefulness and good times
So what I have taken from this video, is that albatrosses live the best life:
travel the world with ease, find the love of your life, travel the world with ease, have lovely children, travel the world with ease, die of old age.
sounds like they have it about right. Not for the first time, I am jealous of a seabird.
I never knew that I loved Albatross so much.
AAAAAAA
I LOVE ALBATROSSES!!!!!!!
they've always been my favorite bird and they give me so much joy. They're so round and big!!! I love them so much!!!!!!!!
One of my favourite bird groups ever, they are so majestic and huge.
There are two types of people: those who associate the albatross with Coleridge's Rime of the Ancient Mariner, and those who associate the albatross with Disney's The Rescuers.
I'm both :D
idk what either of those are
How could you not mention Sonic Riders broski?
I associate it with the Monty Python sketch.
And also us, JoJo fans....
Watched it once before but saw the community post, commenting for the algorithm.
Glad to see you uploading again.
Albatrosses are extremely beautiful and interesting.
I've seen them 2-3 times in my life.
I've love to see them again 🦤
Congratulations to the camera people.
Incredible images.
Albatrosses must be protected from extinction 😢
they are less likely to be extinct since they are seabirds and the nature of their niche which is literally just eating small fish and squids. unless we screwed up are oceans so hard the fishes just... dies.
I swear the BEST channels only upload once every couple months
Wait, so this bird tacks like a sailboat essentially to fly effortlessly 🤯
I'm glad you are back♡
I love it when you drop your vids.
Really did not expect such a lovely video.
Great watch!
love this video and i'm so glad you're back!! i'm pretty new into birding but i've been trying to see an albatross for a while :) such amazing birds
I sure hope that, your insight will really open broad understanding,to the folks that have no regard for all wildlife & help them to come around & care for this world!!!
new budget museum upload, a blessing
Informative videos, humor very scarce so it always catches you by surprise. One of the best channels.
flawless video as always, i love your videos and always get so excited when you upload! thank you
I love your channel! This is so weird, but I have been thinking about the albatross for a long time. Read Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, and then I looked them up, and I have been enchanted by how they live ever since. I would switch over to albatross in a heartbeat.
The albatross are terrifying to me.
Have been watching an albatross cam from New Zealand and have fallen in love with these fascinating birds. Thank you very much for this. Now do wombats please!
Dark thoughts because without enough winds on open seas they're "sitting ducks" for predators.
Another brilliant video. Thank you!
I work with a person studying their PhD working on Albatross genomics and developing a reference genome to try and help fisheries (in New Zealand at least) try to lower the amount of Albatross they get in their bycatch. Their taxonomy is kinda messed up because of course it is, but they're pretty amazing seabirds
“Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves…”
(From “Echoes” by Pink Floyd)
I never realized just how amazing and awesome albatrosses are.
I'm so excited for the next video
As always these videos are just amazing
Good music mentioning the albatross rime of the ancient mariner by iron maiden(also originally an interesing old 1700s poem )
Dont worry your analogy was right, bi planes and airliners have as much in common as albatros and sea gulls
O, the pelican. So smoothly doth he crest. A wind god!
Great topic.
I remember not having much appreciation for these and not realising just how massive they were. After learning about them I found they seem to be the avian elephant equivalent, amazing creatures.
Its always a treat when u post man
SUPER NICE, literally big bird
"Albatross!" - John Cleese
I love albatrosses. Thanks, Mr. Budget
I had no idea they were related to penguins of all things!
great video, amazing birds! : )
Lovely video, thanks.
The bit about them being terrified when bobbing without wind to catch on open waters might have some validity. Back when sailing was sailing, albatrosses would often land themselves on the deck of vessels during calm days and would tolerate well the humans on board. It was common practice to chase, catch, play with, razz, and feed the creature before letting it on its way. Never killed though, as you'd be cursed and would be forced by the rest of the crew to wear the corpse around your neck as an ill omen or like repentance for... I dont know how long, actually. Until the voyage ends or it rots off you? The details of these things I forget. There's no reason to kill them anyways, as their meat is pitiful and _foul._ Not even starving castaways find themselves able to down much of it at all.
They are quite fun because they're so massive, deceptively as big from what you'd take away only having watched this video as they are unbelievably light, which makes for an interesting feeling when you handle them. They're great birds.
Seeing one of the wandering variety is on my bucket list. I got to see the laysan albatross in kauai and was amazed, because while I understood that they were big birds, I didn't really understand until I saw it, you know?
Albatrosses: exist
Moushly: *Confusing Screaming noises*
I'm finally over my stats exam and ready to watch a new masterpiece
@2:13 genuinely a fair comparison to show differences, between in both topics.
GREAT!!
solid video loved it.
Albatros are majestic and inspiring where as their cousins the giant petrels are vile hellspawn
I listen to this to fall asleep
nicely done! thx
very cool video! (:
I love them. Cuties.
There’s something oddly calming about these animals getting to die of old age in the wild
good video, i like albatrosses too, even more now after this.
Wake up babe, new budget museum dropped!
I always thought albatrosses were lame until I saw this thank you
Came here from Fleetwood Mac to be educated.
loved these dudes from my favorite pink floyd song
Really great video keep it up 👍
Awesome Video!
I always respected Albatrosses because, y'know, big bird fly far. Thanks for giving me not only more knowledge but also more respect for those magnificent creatures.
Literal mastery.
Now whenever I get on a tangent about birds and go on about how incredible the Albatross is, i can just show this video so people stop thinking I’m crazy.
Seriously though once you realize how big they can get and what they can do its insane.
Yippee a video to fall asleep to:)
due to the separation by the equatorial region the north pacific population is likely to further diverge from the rest of them over time forming its own genera

Me: "ah yes the Grand Line"
Damn, my new favorite bird
Hooray I missed you!!
Yes!! Been waiting for this one
I think it’s subtle but i just noticed now how you create your videos for american *and* european audiences as well. Measuring units, yeah, but i finally noticed it actively when comparing distances between cities
I really like albatross too
I was just thinking about albatrosses the other day; this is so strange! Very cool that they can drink saltwater. Surprised you didn’t mention they mate for life!
7:38 he states very clearly they mate for life.
While most do date for life, some don't. It's funny that albatrosses are like praised for straight monogamous when while that's the majority and that's what they originally thought... Till they DNA tested the couples they they been noticing for years that for some reason started with two eggs instead of one ... And found they were both female. E.g. they both mate with a male, then raise one of the eggs together. Some of these lesbian couples do mate for life, some break up (and so do some of the straight couples).
Outdated research around animal sexuality and relationships has been used to promote certain ways of human life like monogamy (which is unusual in the animal kingdom), when in reality animals are much more complicated. If want to know more on this topic, read "b*tch: on the female of the species". It's eye opening (where I first heard about the albatross research).
@@hefoxed thats still KINDA like mating for life, but its like theyre getting sperm donors at the same time so they can still raise chicks lol. Thats a cool fact though, its surprising just how many animal species have homosexuality like that especially among the females
Great vid
He's back
If I was a sea bird, I'd be the mightiest of them all.
