We have the same problem in Europe and between us and Africa we have the Mediterranean sea and people cross it in rafts risking their lives for the prospect of better lives. Do you think a wall will stop anyone? They will just dig tunnels, or use climbing tools to overcome it. If you want to stop the exodus you need to deal with the root of the problem and promote some kind of cooperation with the origin countries. Help them develop, give a viable future to those persons in their home countries and they will stop flocking to your shores.

The implication that Judges ' verdicts are biased in favor of plaintiffs or defendants that are members of the party to which the Judge belongs &/or to the party that the person who appointed the Judge belongs, is insulting to all Judges who perform their duties with integrity & to our entire legal system!
On the rare occasion that bias exists (as I believe it does with Judge Cannon), the actions taken will be inconsistent with their duties and can be addressed through legal channels.

Absolutely correct. The debates are nothing, if not a television spectacle, which has forced intelligent political discourse to conform to the ridiculous, artificial strictues of the television medium. It is a personality and performance show, not a serious forum for serious ideas.
Oh I love watching Stormy Daniels and Cohen and only wish MC Dougal spoke also.. Melanie knows he is wrong and why she didn't back him up in court.

I was nine years old in 1970, but my parents didn't discuss things like the Manson murders _at all_ around me and my older brother. It wasn't that they didn't allow us to see the news, as we watched everything broadcast about the Apollo missions and the moon landing, and I still geek out over what an impact that had on me as a child.
This is the first I've heard about Nixon's part in almost getting Manson freed because of his mouth. When Watergate scandal occurred, I didn't understand what it was about but I sure saw how my parent's attitude changed. They voted for him, but once they found out that he was, indeed a crook. They were done, and they didn't like Ford because he pardoned him. Republicans sure have changed!
I love Lawrence, Rachael, Ari et al for bringing us these history lessons that tie right into modern day.
Another person I've learned a great deal from is historian and professor, Heather Cox Richardson. I highly recommend her channel and video series that goes in depth of how Republicans went from the "party of Lincoln" to the current bizarre cult of personality. BTW, she is _not_ a Democrat. She is an historian who values facts and presents them without spin.

Now that Lawrence has reminded us of Nixon's Manson Trial faux-pas, the comparison between THIS former President and the current one just doubled. Nixon already RESIGNED the office rather than subject the country to his criminal trial--or avoided recorded proof of a crime. Now we see that he was capable of apologizing and CORRECTING his mistaken statement, something Trumputin is genetically, or by upbringing, INCAPABLE of doing, EVER. He has yet to apologize for his statements on the Central Park five. That's a guilty verdict reached by someone who has never been a judge or even a jury member on that trial, but at the time was not even a politician, let alone President. His assessment as a private citizen, though perfectly legal to hold privately, should NEVER have even been broadcast to the country.

Thank you, Lawrence. I knew that the TELEVISED debate spectacle only began in 1960, but never realized that presidential debates in general were not a regular part of the race before that. Seems that TV has reduced the presidency to the interview portion of the Miss America pageant. I'm just afraid it will degrade farther and that comic Gabriel Iglesias was right when he predicted that we'll just have a phone-in show, "Who's Gonna Run This Bit**?"

It was 1960 and the League of Women Voters purchased air-time from broadcaster's so that the general public could see, unvarnished, presidential candidates. Perhaps over the years the campaign's demeanor changed; however, viewing the candidates, side by side may become a carnival of political carnage but we need to see it.
Why? Most experts will tell you that Nixon actually out performed Kennedy in the debate, but Kennedy has make up on and Nixon was sweating under the hot studio lights, and looked weak, while Kennedy looked strong, young, and handsome, and that's how Kennedy "won" the debate. Reagan's staff said a lesson they learned was that no matter what Reagan said on the campaign (and he said a lot of STUPID things) it did not matter as long as he looked good, was in front of a good crowd, and had lots of flags behind him. He spoke of how they would panic when Reagan said things such as that trees pollute more than cars, and he got mocked in the media - but his poll numbers went UP. His own economic adviser called Reagan's plan "Voodoo economics", but it did not matter.
The truth is that I think voters would make better choices if they NEVER saw the candidates - audio and print only.
Let me be very clear since they are letting Donald Trump Go free and the supreme court and the judge in Florida is the judges in Georgia's they need to let every black person and dark-skinned person in prison in jail Go free this is what we need to run on everybody must be freed and every prison in United States of America if you are black if they are black dark skin brown skin are any other color or race and poor white people they need to let them go free everybody should go free
Loved this commentary, this is the reason Biden has been so much more effective than Trump. He has a team of professionals not syncophants.
The problem I have with Larry’s confidence with advisers to the president is the reliability of facts the advisers themselves use for the assessments on a situation or circumstance to the president. When the World Bank issues a projection statement for economic growth, saying the GDP rate of China is three times the expected rate of growth of the US held at 2.3 % for 2024 going into 25, and the US president makes comments the US economy is doing great,---you better start questioning the advisers, I can’t rely on the president’s facts!
This is why I never watch the television debates...I know it's a sham show, a way for TV corporations to make money. And Trump prowling around behind Clinton---that was rude, vile, and should've been stopped I didn't see it then; I saw snippets later on a news show.) But no--it doesn't even test the *basic* competencies of presidential candidates. The questions are often biased, and no, I DON"T think the debate moderatos are good at their jobs. The flaws may be baked into the TV-created format of the debate...may not be entirely the moderators' fault. But they don't do anything to make it better. I wish we didn't have them.

I am a democrat, but I dont agree there shouldnt be debates. Its an opportunity to see each person perform under pressure.
The voters should at least be able to expect their leaders to express themself in a debate.
