Wow that's so cool I thought about reimaging my perfectly good pi. I didn't, but I thought about it! Setting hostname/wifi/ssh before even powering it on? AWESOME!

I’ve always just used dd, but being able to customize settings before-hand is pretty neat. - Should have RSA options there, not just password authentication though. Would be pretty neat if it could automatically set up a key pair between the current computer and the SD card too.
PS. dd AFAIK is short for copy&clone… Yeah, that seems weird, but cc was already taken by the compiler, so they just increméntese the letters. That’s what I’ve heard in any case

Usually, programs will put the yes or the "go ahead" button before the cancel one to trip you up and make you actually think about your choice.
Yes it's annoying, but it's supposed to be, rather an annoying placement than overwriting the wrong drive, eh?

Can you not edit /etc/hosts config file and add a line for an ethernet connection and a static IP address instead of wifi?

boot is a separate fat32 partition that just about any OS can read, the main partition is ext4 and that's where the hosts file would be, since windows can't read or write ext4 normally (idk about mac) that makes much more difficult for windows users to do this

@@DouglasWalrath let's hope they add ethernet to the GUI menu in raspberry pi imager then.
      Thanks for the details.

@@QuickBits currently that would require modification to raspberry pi os afaik

snaps are garbage, idk why anyone voluntarily uses them. i've had nothing but problems with them.

    • @QuickBits

Don't snap apps have granular configuration settings that can be changed?

    • @Ashleyyyyy666

@@QuickBits this isn’t about configurations. Snaps are sandboxed which causes massive problems with any app that needs direct hardware access.
