@@DIYDSP Hello friend - we get it :) The storage idea is sound - we just want you to be able to get the most value from your gear when you sell it.

If this made you scared to see synthesizers boxes getting cut up, be sure to watch Part 2! czcams.com/video/hGTw4C4479k/video.html

Cutting up the original boxes is a very bad idea. I also cannot recommend stuffing cables like that at the bottom of the box. Get some plastic shelves and put your extra synths in them. Get some plastic tubs with lids and store your boxes in them. Wrap your cables up 2 over 1 under and hang them lightly on hooks. Just my 2 cents.

Please don't cut up the original boxes for your gear! Having the original box, manual and accessories will likely get you more money when its time to sell your gear. 😊

Thank you for the great tip. It's super useful for beginners. Seasoned and committed synthesizer veterans who might have spent more time assessing their gear choices ought to consider a different calculation: Tot evaluate the value of the box over time versus having the space in one's home. For example, if a house has 2000 square feet, and costs $2000/month for its mortgage, then 20 square feet of boxes cost $2400 to store for 10 years. If I have 6 pieces of gear for sale, will they all earn an *extra* $400 for having the box? What percentage of the value is the box? Am I actually planning to sell the gear or keep it forever?
Also, are you interested in buying any of my empty boxes before the shiny blades get sunk into them?

@@DIYDSP I agree with the real estate calculation - if you don't have the space, you don't have the space. However, it is difficult to tell which gear is going to be considered "classic" at some point. And for the right buyer+gear combination, perhaps $400 for mint-in-box might be worth it for them.
Mainly, my point is - if there is an option other than chopping up the original box, it's worth considering the other option.
Also - lol - yes, I might be interested in your un-chopped gear boxes (serious statement). I probably will not offer $400/box though.
Peace, from a fellow DIY gearhead.
