    In this ultra rare video, Mike Mentzer puts Boyer Coe through his 72nd workout on July 20, 1983 in the Nautilus Sports/Medical studios in Florida. Boyer had an “A” workout and a “B” workout that he performed. This video captures his “A” workout. Another historic gem from the history of high-intensity training.

      I believe that Mike had two main high intensity training programs. One is the famous Heavy Duty, which contains the supersets. The other one is a full body workout

      yeah his form is not perfect but that's realistic, when you actually do HIT with heavy loads is very hard to focus on the form because of the intensity, at least for the folks who are not patient but they have increased risk of injuries - that's the payoff!

    Gentlemen, although it hasn't been very long since I've started working out with intensity and consistency, I have seen or think I have seen improvement in strength and possibly size.
    How will I know if I should switch to the "consolidated" program, as I am an individual who I believe is of the body type Mike described who could benefit from such a program?
    Thank you, everyone, especially Mr. Little for uploading these videos!

    • @User107D
      @User107D Před měsícem +4

      It depends - for me the consulidation program is deload practically. For you may not be because everyone has different recovery needs, trial & error is king - start the Consulidation with 3 full days rest between the sessions and if you don't get stronger after a month increase the rest day to 4 and so on till you find your frequency.
      The ideal routine of Mike is also very good again starting with 3 full days between the sessions.

    I have reason to believe that Boyer is actually natural during those videos, heard that Arthur Jones didn't like steroids...

    that first thing is cool. I've never seen it. So much better than the worthless 'kick back' thing my gym has. I don't use it. I don't feel like putting my butt in the air and doing kickbacks. This works the same glutes, but in a normal looking way.

    40* Chest Shoulder 11 reps in 37 seconds = 3.4 seconds per rep. Not exactly the protocol that Arthur was promoting (up 2, pause 1, lower 4 = 7 seconds per rep) but intensity still looked good. The risk of injury was unnecessarily high during these exercises because of a lack of awareness of the risk. Throwing weight instead of lifting it is a hard habit to break.

    interesting to me that he said 'aiming for 10 reps' and then he doesn't tell Boyer to slow down. I'm thinking that it is a tad later where Mentzer shifted moreso to slightly slower reps and just going to complete failure(?). That vid where he's training Marcus somethingorother, Mentzer looks a tad older in the latter vid.

    • @HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE
      @HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE  Před 14 dny +2

      This video was shot in 1983. The one with Markus Reinhardt was shot in 2001. You are correct in that Mike believed in a slower, more controlled protocol later on. He started implementing this belief in the mid 1990s. In this video he is supervising Boyer’s workout according to the guidelines that Arthur Jones wanted Boyer to use.
