oh my gosh these girls blew up. They're going to hit 1 year in a few more months but its none stop success, Hype Boy is easily the most successful - I was like you, when I first heard it, I was like...."ehhh, this ain't for me, next" but after like a week later it became so catchy. It's kind of a grower. Whereas with Attention was easily catchy. Cookie, the song itself, was also extremely catchy. Hurt was so cute, Ditto and OMG, those too, oh god, they've been so successful. They attracted so many fans because how "refreshing" their sound is. Im pretty sure this will be their signature sound, the 2000's style r&b/pop vibe!
Fun fact: the hook of ZERO "Coca Cola Mashitda (is tasty)" is a korean version of "Eeny, meeny, miny, moe"

Super super glad you like them!! I've loved them since debut and really appreciate Min Heejin's work (not her 👀) but the best part about this group for me is their vocal chemistry and their music videos. They're under ADOR (all doors one room) run by the former creative director of SM, Min Heejin. For perspective, she was in charge of the promotions of Pink Tape by F(x), one of the greatest comebacks in my opinion by SM. So yeah this group is amazing and they've gotten so many brand deals already. Danielle, one of the Australian members, also got selected to sing a Korean version for Part of Your World for the upcoming Little Mermaid movie.
Hype Boy is such a grower. I didn’t like the song much at first listen, but the more you hear it the more it’s stuck in your head to the point it becomes your favorite song 😅

Minji although doesn't seem to be a huge leader, she is technically the leader as the oldest member at age 19. Hanni is the next oldest followed by Danielle. They are both 18. Danielle is the one who you said gives leader vibes and was actually 17 when they debuted. She is my bias. 2 of them are still minors with Haerin at age 17 and Hyein at a surprisingly young age of 15 or age 14 at debut.
I'm glad you enjoyed New Jeans - ADOR did a good job with establishing the group within the industry, which can get noisy/competitive. Reactors are calling New Jeans the group that established the 5th gen in KPOP and I think its earned; there are many that came after, notably XB1 because of Boys Planet, but I think its safe to say the industry is there. I LOL when you said you f*cked with Cookie because the lyrics caused such a ruckus [I love that song!!] and Ditto was such an emotional rollercoaster for me when the two MVs first dropped [just goes to show, it doesn't matter how old you are]. If you get a chance, watch New Jeans member Hanni on Lee Mujin Service - she plays guitar and I was impressed with her vocals for an 18YO.
I don't generally listen to pop music & other than BTS, don't really listen to K-pop, but I really like New Jeans. You summed it up well. Good vibes, not overly produced (all I can think of is in Amadeus when the king says Mozart's opera has "too many notes"😬), smooth vocals... and considering how young they are, their vocals aren't shrill or sugary. And, yes, they leave the space to breathe & appreciate.

You had the same opinions as me! I loved Attention and Cookie but wasn’t so keen on Hype Boy because it felt too static, and I really enjoyed the way they bring a freshness to the 90s-2000s R&B sound and aesthetic. I love the way the producer really lets their vocals breathe and allows the track to shine for itself.

So I've listened to a little bit of NewJeans, and I can tell you that they're signed under the ADOR (acronym for All Doors One Room) label under HYBE Labels. One of the members was in PTD, I think something stated that either the same member or another was featured in Enhypen's "Drunk-Dazed" music video.

I couldn't agree more with the "vibey" to describe their songs, they're really refreshing to hear in such an oversaturated industry, kinda surprised you didn't like hype boy tho, dare I say its one of the most or even the most famous song of the entire 4th gen in SK, also fun fact, the coke ad song was the first cf song to top the charts in Korea since big bang in like 2010, so im pretty sure it works, also considering they're releasing another song for Coca Cola at the end of the month with artists like Camilo and J.I.D, and yet another one next month :)

Like you said, their voices are so pretty and the songs are really easy to listen to. I found them refreshing since in kpop there's so much "noisy" songs, especially from the last couple of years. Of course some are good but yeah, I'm liking their vibe a lot so far. My prediction is that a lot of groups will soon release similar music to them because they are having a lot of success and then everything in kpop will be repetitive again instead of keeping or trying to find their own artistic identity. 💀
Anyways, I'm not saying it's wrobg to try new things but I always notice kpop follows the trend and tend to release similar things

As a NewJeans stan, if you liked them I also recommend XG! Their sound is similar, and they are a "k-pop" group, however they sing in English.

You are right on the money with both the music and the styling, their concept is Y2K. I'm not into them, they are too young for me, but I can't deny that the music slaps. My personal fave is Hurt. I'd say their biggest song is Hype Boy, but that's mostly because of the choreo, everyone and their mother has danced to that chorus. OMG also has really viral point choreo.
I'd say it's generally agreed that their discography, while tiny, is really solid with the exception of Cookie that everyone hates because of the lyrics.

Loved your reaction. It was quite funny how you said hype boy wasnt memorable, because that song was actually one of the biggest songs last year. But it grew on me, I also didnt like ot that much from the first listen as the other ones.
i always trust your judgment and honesty im excited to see what you think about them ! BTS has done multiple tiktoks challenges with them, theyre so adorable. Their songs are extremely catchy, not one miss so far tbh.
The thing I really like about them in the context of the 4th gen is that they have such a distinct SOUND. So many groups nowadays try so many things and it often feels as if they are just throwing things out there and looking what sticks. They are looking for a cupid moment or sth similar where they just go viral via TikTok, make a lot of money and then move on to a different group. And it bothers me because they are throwing away a strong fandom for TikTok hype, even though it is KNOWN, that that doesn’t give anyone longevity and that they will be forgotten in two years. What Newjeans has also figured out (which is very important nowadays) is that they have good and streamable music.
All the mvs videos mean so much more if you understand the easter eggs and timeline of what is going on in their career and criticisms, its all in the video and omg is connected to ditto

I really like new jeans but other groups are getting into the concept and more storyline MV's and honestly I don't really like most of the other groups doing the concept and I miss the aesthetic MV's where you can pause like anywhere and it'll look like art but for New Jeans I love this.
