One thing I really like about nwjns choreography is that their choreo looks like it was made for and by a group of teenagers, which is why they’re allowed to be loose and playful with it to give it that youthful vibe unlike other kpop groups
Agreed! A lot of their choreography builds on basic hip hop party moves done perfectly with a big smile on your face. I remember seeing "OMG" and saying, "That's a Harlem shake!" Building on those moves have the effect of feeling joyful, non-gendered, approachable, and age-appropriate. I don't feel that when I see girl groups in glamour outfits and makeup and dancing in high heels, which looks cool, but it doesn't feel as authentic and delightful.

@@danielle5445 Yes, Nwjns is absolutely everywhere and even going to Lolla this year but it feels different when I see Rina Sawayama talking about them or appearing on Steezy because it confirms that they are as big and respected as I want them to be.
I love the playfulness in all their choreos. They truly embody the saying "dance to express and not to impress". But the best thing about NewJeans as a whole is that they don't sound like a group that wants to pick a fight with everyone. They're literally just singing about life as teenagers. You mix that with a bit of nostalgic y2k r&b and fashion and everything is just *~chef's kiss~*

The first time I saw Haerin dance- especially in the OMG dance practice (her footwork had me gagged)- I knew that she’d be an amazing dancer. There was something about the way she moved, so effortless and light, but still very much precise. The more I watched Newjeans, the more I confirmed that. Now, Haerin AND Hanni, actually. They are both such good dancers. I think it has a lot to do with their background. Haerin was in a dance academy before (footage of her resurfaced and if you see that, you’d realize the hard work she put in to be as good as she is now). While Hanni was part of Aemina, a dance crew, before in Australia wherein they would do covers (they had a yt channel but it’s already been deleted). Their improvements in only 2.5 yrs is insane, and at that young of an age? Newjeans is a crazy talented group.

@ehe Fr Minji in that cover solidified her as best dancer with Hanni for me. Her energy and the way she catches every beat shows how competent she is as a dancer

I love that they commit to the teenager concept with fun and playful choreos. They also incorporate a lot of eye contact and interaction moments among the members... like a group of girls dancing with each other!
Haerin was and is my immediate New jeans bias. Karina, Yeji and Haerin are tied for my ultimate bias with Karina having a slight lead

newjeans may be a rookie group but for me it is one of the most complete groups, the simple fact that they do not have an assigned position speaks volumes about the fact that the five of them can be both dancers, singers and visuals, they have participated in the writing of their songs and surely in a few years they will write songs by themselves, they came to stay
i love how their moves always make them seem happy performing. the interactions during dancing with the members are so precious
Something about the way Hanni dances gets me. She always just looks like she's having so much fun, and most people praise her for being main dancer material. In a group this talented, that's crazy
yees exactly haerin control of her body and movement is top tier.
She is one of my favorite dancer already in the kpop industry also because she control very well her movement and power she is also very stable during live performance, i guess this is why she has the hardest parts in newjeans songs.

probably my favorite group right now in terms of choreography-- i love how they have a defined style that they can adapt to many different songs and still be recognizable, your brain just goes "oh! this is a newjeans choreo" even if you've never seen it before, which i think is really special!

I join the fandom a little later specifically during the Ditto era. The first New Jeans’s video i watched was Ditto dance practice and my eyes are glued on Haerin! She’s so so good i thought she’s the main dancer of the group.

honestly, as simple as the move at 2:12 looks, i can't help but notice how clean haerin's footwork actually is like i repeated it to look at how each member does it but haerin just has some next level smoothness to it that i can't explain.
and don't even get me started on OMG it's honestly crazy how clean it is.

New jeans choreos always have a air of playfulness and freedom that makes it feel like they're a regular group of friends just having fun and dancing together. And I love choreos when the dancers make eye contact with each other instead of the audience. It adds to the togetherness of the group
They are so utterly adorable, NJ. So so talented and gorgeous, but i appreciate most that their work and choreo's are age appropriate.

i can always trust steezy to help me figure out the names of dance moves that show up in kpop! sometimes when i see a move that i know has a name i want to be able to look it up to see someone breaking down how to do that move, but i cant ever for the life of me figure out the name. please keep it up :)
New Jeans is an amazing group and Haerin can pull of so many different vibes - the pretty, the cute, the innocent and even the seductive (see the photos with the eye winks). She seems like a chameleon or a veteran actress who can change emotions and feel at need. It is an amazing trait and thinking about it, she is going to rock as a model - they all will. Acting should be in the cards for them too.
I've been tryjng omgs choreo and as much as it looks relaxed. Man it is hard, the flow of the movements, is so dynamic it has me sweating.
I've missed seeing jessie and clay together in a vid. Def always a feel good vid when these heads are together!

The choreo for Ditto has built in imperfection because the sotry around the song and the video is that of a girl who films her friends at school making up choreo on the spot at recess, during their breaks or even at home. She stands for every girl that made up choreos or tried to follow choreos of the songs they love at that age which is by nature imperfect.
She symbolizes the fans also who take their personal time to recreate the choreos and make it their own. So it was very clever to have New Jeans in the performance have those imperfect moves with one member "messing up" or adding their sauve to one move.
The group and their team want to show variety so you'll have Ditto (which means "the same" so it refers to copying also) and you'll have Super Shy which is bold and clean and crisp and high effort with synchronicity and difficult transitions.

THAT'S WHAT IT WAS!! I knew in my gut that something about the way they control focus in these dances was so buttery smooth - and you guys pinpointed it for me: overlap in the transitions, and the way they play with eye contact among themselves.
I never really understood why Haerin stood out (outside of her obvious beauty). Hearing you guys describe it in great detail is very helpful! The eye contact, playfulness and the different "solo" moments are what makes this a joy to watch.

Who choreographed it?
Hanni and Minji are easily the best dancers in NewJeans and fit their concept the best. Their skills, groove and chemistry on stage are unmatched
From what I’ve read and watched, NewJeans choreography is based on fun and simplicity. They practice on being themselves in their choreo, but still being somewhat in sync. They wanted to show that they don’t want to look like every other group that are almost robotic in how in-sync they all are.
So NewJeans wanted to be slightly different. Like I said before, they love to be playful and have fun while dancing but still be in sync in their own way.
They have become my new favorite girl group because of their MV’s that tell such good stories! Music is so catchy, choreo is energetic, and they all are so beautiful and stunning!

I really like NEWJEANS choreos so much. You don't need to break a bone to dance it. You don't need to make it beautifully and perfectly. Because the way they dance to it is like having fun, so when you are learning it you also have fun.
Whenever I learn their choreos it is always so fun and making me enjoy the moment 🫶
When you are able to dance like it's easy and like you're just having fun on stage it means you really ABSORBED the choreos, that means SO much practice and they give, thanks to that, a better delivery on stage
